Chapter 1714: Put on a Show

4 min read

"Ah, the bride price has been saved up, don’t worry, my dear, you don’t have to fret anymore."Trevor gently held her shoulders from behind, then embraced her, resting his chin lightly on her shoulder, speaking to her with deep affection—

"What we need to do now is wait for your mother to wake up, wait for her to recover and be discharged from the hospital, then we’ll complete 100 things that every couple should do. In the meantime, we’ll organize a wedding for your parents to surprise them, and then we can walk into the marriage hall."

This was his plan, carefully considered.

Janelle thought it was a wonderful thing, and she felt very lucky to have met the Mills family and Trevor.

She was satisfied with the script of her life.

Looking at the closet full of dresses, she suddenly felt relieved, no longer fixated on her lineage. Life is short; she wanted to cherish the happiness she had now.

In the hospital, Nathan Mills remained by Carlotta’s bedside.

He held her hand, trying to transfer some of his palm’s warmth to her cold fingers, even though the air conditioning was on.

He desperately wanted to give her some warmth, some faith, with a persistent voice in his heart—

"Carlotta, hang in there, you have come through already, wake up soon, recover quickly."

Ever since they met, every little moment lingered in Nathan Mills’ mind, each picture so clear, causing a dull ache in his heart.

Even though she was out of life-threatening danger, she had undergone brain surgery, and he couldn’t help but worry.

He really felt for her and hated himself for not being able to bear her pain instead.

He decided to spend the rest of his life making it up to her.

The night in Riventhal grew deeper...

In Lorelei, the majestic and grand royal palaces, the ancient castles left behind appeared even more magnificent and mysterious under the sunlight.

In the King’s bedroom, the atmosphere was lavish yet somewhat depressing.

Ian Shelby fed his father the last 30 milliliters of ’sour plum soup’ from the bottle.

The King leaned against the headboard, swallowing the potion, feeling a bit melancholic.

Ian Shelby comforted him, "Father, although this medicine is gone, the one I’m developing will be ready soon, and my master will arrive shortly, so please don’t stress."

"Alright," the King nodded, "I won’t take my last breath until Annie is found and I’ve seen you securely on the King’s throne."

Ian Shelby truly didn’t care for the throne, but he also didn’t want Taylor to have it.

Because Taylor was unworthy, if Catherine held the reins, Lorelei would soon crumble.

At this moment, the doorbell rang.

The father and son became alert and, just as they glanced back, saw the door open.

Eden appeared in everyone’s sight.

Standing beside the bed, Ian Shelby slipped the empty medicine bottle into his pocket, and the King clutched his chest as he coughed violently.

Ian Shelby glanced over, seeing Eden walking steadily their way.

"Uncle," he said with a troubled look, stepping back two steps, his eyes welling with tears.

"Cough cough cough..." The King’s chest erupted with sharp, tearing sounds, "Cough... Eden, what’s the matter?"

Eden stood at the foot of the bed, appearing somewhat reluctant, lowering his gaze as he reported, "Prince Taylor wishes to see you; he has come five times already."

Indicating that he had turned him away the previous four times.

Ian Shelby poured a cup of warm water, and the King gradually stopped coughing, one hand clutching his chest, the other supporting himself on the edge of the bed, gasping for air as he strained to lift his gaze, "And then what? I don’t want to see anyone, I just... just want to go quietly."

He conveyed that his days were numbered.

Eden’s gaze shifted, landing on Ian’s face, Ian lowered his eyes, an expression of immense sorrow.
