Chapter 1715: Fooled Eden

4 min read

The room was filled with deep sorrow as everyone remained silent. Although Ian Shelby didn’t look at his uncle, he could sense his uncle’s gaze on him, observing his expression.

So, his uncle had just used the pretext of Prince Taylor wanting to see his father to barge in and spy on the situation.

Even though there’s no concrete evidence yet, Ian Shelby felt increasingly sure that he was the one trying to kill his father.

Ian seemed silent, but inside, his heart was ablaze with anger. He usually didn’t talk much and appeared neither strong nor influential, but in truth, his mind was as clear as a mirror.

"Send him away, I will not see anyone." The King took the cup of water his son handed him, sipped a bit of warm water with difficulty, and then weakly closed his eyes.

Ian hastily set down the cup and supported his father to gently lie down.

Eden also bent down to help, as the patient’s body was very weak. Although the King had lost some weight, he still weighed around a hundred and fifty pounds.

After the two helped the King lie down, Ian covered him with a blanket.

Eden looked at the King, then at Ian, and stepped outside.

To avoid arousing his uncle’s suspicion, he had to first cure his father’s poisoning, so Ian also stepped out with a sorrowful look on his face.

"Uncle."

In the hall outside, Ian’s mood was extremely heavy. He took the initiative to report, "Father coughed up blood again this morning, and the blood was black. I estimate... he might not last a week."

Eden stopped, looked at him quietly, and then comforted him, "Birth, aging, sickness, and death are natural human occurrences."

Then, he reached out and patted Ian’s shoulder, "Louis, you should think it through. Since he wants your company, it’s best to stay by his side without leaving. That way your life will be less regretful."

Watching his uncle’s sturdy back leaving, something flashed in Ian’s eyes.

His uncle did not sympathize, nor showed a shred of sadness or grief.

Now, the roles were clearly defined; the task of gathering evidence was handed to CEO Kingston, saving his father was Ian’s own responsibility, and Jocelyn was responsible for passing information between the two sides.

Ian withdrew his gaze, returned to the room, and locked the door.

The King recognized the familiar footsteps and slowly opened his eyes, "Louis."

Ian stood by the bedside, listening to him say, "I want to pass the throne to you now, notify all royal family members to convene a meeting."

"No," Ian said cautiously, "the fewer people you come into contact with now, the better. Just because Eden can’t see your true condition doesn’t mean others can’t. There are always some smart people, some who understand medicine, and your complexion has already improved significantly."

"..." The King was silent, his son was right.

The King was not lacking confidence in his own body, but he very much hoped that his eldest son could take this position, so he could be at ease.

He didn’t want the throne to be coveted by anyone.

At this time, standing at the entrance of a palace adorned with two beautiful peacocks.

"Why is Mrs. Kingston coming over?" Julie sensed something was off but couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong, "I heard she’s pregnant, shouldn’t she be resting peacefully?"

"Their eldest son and daughter are six or seven years old," Catherine replied casually while sitting on the sofa and sipping tea, "but they’ve been separated for so many years. Strictly speaking, they’re like newlyweds now," so she could understand.

Julie, however, was skeptical, always feeling something was amiss.

Catherine trusted Justin Kingston unconditionally. The construction of the castle was already underway, and she was very invested, as was Justin Kingston; they often ran into each other at the construction site.

Catherine felt very confident, thinking of herself and Justin Kingston as good friends fighting side by side.
