Chapter 1296: I Think He’s Not Simple

4 min read

The vegetable plot wasn’t large, and Scarlett quickly finished watering the plants that needed it."Old Master, I’ve finished fertilizing the plants. Would you like to check if it’s satisfactory?" Scarlett thought she would probably be asked to do more work after fertilizing, so before Old Master Yates could speak, she offered, "Do you want me to trim these flowers? I learned a bit about it from someone before..."

"No need." After the two birds in Old Master Yates’ hands had eaten and drunk their fill, they flapped their wings and flew back to the perch.

Old Master Yates clapped his hands and pointed to the seat across from him, saying, "Sit down."

Was it time to start discussing serious matters?

Scarlett felt a surge of joy at the thought but suppressed it, sitting down opposite him with a composed demeanor.

On the round rosewood table sat a tea set, an excellent set of purple clay teapot tea ware. Old Master Yates twisted the small teapot to pour himself a cup of tea. As the tea poured into the cup, wisps of white steam rose.

He leisurely took a sip of tea, moistening his throat before lifting his head to look at Scarlett, "Your patience isn’t bad; you didn’t rush to ask me right away."

Scarlett felt slightly guilty at being praised.

It’s not that she was patient; she had wanted to ask earlier but was afraid it might backfire, so she didn’t dare speak up.

With an awkward smile, she said, "Whenever you wish to tell me, you naturally will. If you don’t want to talk about it, pushing you wouldn’t be of any use anyway."

"Young lady, you do have some sense. I most dislike impatient people. If you’d rushed to ask at the start, I might’ve been unwilling to help."

Old Master Yates spoke casually, but Scarlett listened with bated breath.

Luckily, she hadn’t spoken rashly, or she really would have been left in tears with no way out.

"I have a few questions for you. Once you’ve clarified them, I’ll tell you what you want to know." After leisurely taking another sip of tea, Old Master Yates began to get to the point.

Scarlett quickly said, "Please go ahead."

"The Saxon Family and the Yates Family have never had any grudges. If there were private feuds, they were from many years ago. With Mr. Mason’s disposition, there’d be no reason to hold onto them till now. Do you know why he has Matthew Saxon under house arrest?"

Initially, Scarlett also didn’t know the reason.

However, now she understood a bit.

Noah Yates had Matthew Saxon under house arrest as a way to threaten her, right?

He wanted her to marry Maxwell Saxon to align with him, and to accomplish this plan, the first step was for her to divorce Matthew. Once she regained her single status, she could then marry Maxwell Saxon.

The best way to make her agree was to threaten her by targeting the people she cared about.

Yet, Scarlett vaguely felt that Noah Yates’ goal wasn’t just limited to that.

Scarlett conveyed all the possibilities she could think of to Old Master Yates.

Old Master Yates remained silent for a long time.

Scarlett didn’t dare urge him, only waiting quietly.

After a while, Old Master Yates slowly spoke, "I will arrange for someone to retrieve Matthew Saxon from the hospital. The airport is out of the question. If you go to the airport, Mr. Mason will find out quickly. At that point, you’ll take a private jet back to Z City."

"Tomorrow, I will arrange for Mr. Mason to be distracted. At that time, Butler Wood will tell you the detailed plan. You just need to follow his instructions." After finishing, Old Master Yates furrowed his brows, his expression somewhat grave, and murmured, "What on earth is Mr. Mason up to, doing these things without telling me? As for this Maxwell Saxon you mentioned, he doesn’t seem simple."
