Chapter 368: No Ring Is To Be On You

7 min read

Every affair that happens in Oakland goes to the Gamma Police Force Chief, then goes to the town council before informing the Alpha, who seems to be the leader of the town.

But most information never gets to him.

It either stops at the Chief’s office or is buried at the council table.

The Chief had been tracking the affairs of Faye Grande from the moment he saw his son come home bloody and looking all dirty. He had felt his son’s heart die. He sent his team to search for his remains, only to find him alive the next day, killing brutally.

The connection he had with his son was gone, and the Frost family had a history of being unable to control their wild part, even during the full moon, while everyone freely roamed around the woods embracing their wolf form.

The Frost family chained themselves down in their basement, waiting for the moon to pass. If they were not chained and were set loose, they could take lives, and there was nothing they could do.

Many families feared the full moon because it strengthened the wolf inside them, but the Frost family feared it for a different reason. To them, it wasn’t a blessing. It was a curse passed down through generations. Every elder in the family had stories about relatives who broke free from their chains and woke up with blood covering their bodies and no memory of what had happened.

The chains inside their basement were not ordinary iron. They had been reinforced over the years after countless failures. Deep claw marks covered the walls, while old dried blood stained the cold stone floor beneath them.

Every full moon, the family gathered in silence, locked themselves away, and prayed for morning to come.

The Chief had grown up watching his father chain himself down. Later, it became his turn. Eventually, it became Children’s turn. He knew exactly what they had inherited, and that knowledge made it impossible for him to completely abandon them, especially Peamah no matter how many crimes he committed.

He had tried hiding his son’s crime before the information got to the Alpha, but the Alpha found out, and the Chief had no choice but to detain his son and sentence him to juvie.

But he pleaded with the council, who took pity on his son, gave him probation, then set Peamah Frost free.

"Does the Alpha know about this?" Princess said immediately. Protecting her girlfriend was her first priority, and if her grandfather, the Alpha, knew, then her girlfriend could be in danger. Her body tensed up instantly, her shoulder shifting in front of Faye like a shield.

"Only these walls know," the Chief said. His voice echoed against the cold concrete of the office. He didn’t blink, resting his thick hands flat on the desk.

Confirming he hadn’t said a word to the council or the Alpha himself.

The room became so quiet that everyone could hear the faint humming of the old fluorescent lights hanging above them. No one dared interrupt him. Every eye remained fixed on the Chief, trying to judge whether he was telling the truth or simply setting a trap for them.

Everyone took a relieved breath. Faye’s secret was still safe. Malo let out a long shake of his head, wiping a line of cold sweat from his forehead.

Even Eriko released the breath he didn’t realize he had been holding. His stiff shoulders finally relaxed, though only slightly. Nobody completely trusted the Chief. They were simply relieved that the Alpha hadn’t been dragged into the matter.

"I will turn a blind eye and burn these files. Act like I don’t know anything about an underage gym, your secret meeting with the unknown, killing my boy and turning him into your puppet... even the fact that you are a Moon Wolf born to kill Alphas... even the disloyalty..." The Chief leaned back in his big chair, tapping one finger against the yellow folder resting between them.

The sound of his finger tapping against the folder echoed through the office.

Each slow knock felt heavier than the last, making everyone’s nerves tighten.

"What disloyalty? We are loyal to this town. We secretly pay taxes, we follow every rule and regulation this town has made. I go to school camp every summer. What loyalty do you expect from us teenagers?" Malo said. He sat straight up in his chair, his voice rising as his chest heaved up and down.

He had been working from a very young age, and the GPF made him pay tax for working and even house tax for having a house in Oakland Town. The house tax was supposed to be paid by his retard of a father, but Malo paid all the bills. Every single paycheck he earned was ripped apart by not by parents also local fees, and hearing the Chief talk about disloyalty made his blood boil.

The Chief remained silent for a long moment, allowing Malo’s anger to settle before finally speaking again.

"You are wearing a sigil that belongs to the House of De Rolo... one of the Lycan royal families...." the Chief announced. He pointed his sharp finger directly at the dark metal shining on their hands.

The people standing’s faces changed as they looked at the two friends sitting there with rings on their pinkies.

Their eyes instinctively shifted toward the matching rings.

Eriko stepped forward from the shadow of the door, his jaw dropping open as his eyes locked onto the dark silver bands. Beam choked on her own breath, her gaze darting frantically between Faye and Malo.

Neither of them had noticed the rings before. They had been too focused on surviving the interrogation.

And there is somebody....

"What is that, babe?" Princess said, pointing at her girlfriend’s finger.

She didn’t care about what the Chief was saying about loyalty to the town.

It was her own loyalty. Her girlfriend had a ring on her finger, and it wasn’t a ring given by her.

Princess’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, the blue glow of her Alpha wolf flickering right at the edge of her iris.

The atmosphere shifted instantly. Even the Chief stopped talking.

Everyone’s attention left the conversation about the House of De Rolo and landed entirely on Princess.

Even though Princess had never proposed with a ring in her hand, she had proposed many times to that girl, and all she got was no. Every single time she had brought up making things official, Faye response was always the same...

And in just one night, she was wearing a ring on her pinky.

Faye pulled her hand back slightly, her stomach doing a nasty flip as she felt the dangerous shift in the room’s air.

"Babe, the ring finger is still an open slot. The pinky has nothing to do with the ring finger," Faye said, trying to defend herself. She had already smelled trouble before putting it on her finger. That was the reason Faye had been refusing. She held her palms up, lifting her small hands to show the empty space on her left ring finger.

Nobody in the room dared interrupt them.

Even Malo quietly leaned back into his chair, praying he doesn’t get a punch after what was happening...

Beam slowly looked away, pretending she wasn’t watching.

The Chief folded his arms across his chest, silently observing the scene unfolding before him.

Princess took a hard step closer, leaning right over the desk until her face was inches away from Faye’s.

"Doesn’t matter where the ring is meant to be. No ring is to be on you. Every finger and toe you have belongs to me and me only."
