The deputy called Faye and Malo to explain how they were able to afford and waste a whole full tank of gasoline.
Unlike Alphas, who have the free will to do whatever they want in Oakland, other werewolves don’t get that privilege, and it’s worse when they are underage.
Every drop of fuel, every single mile driven on the streets was tracked and logged, especially for kids who weren’t supposed to have those kind of resources.
Luckily, Princess, who happened to be an Alpha, backed the two careless friends. She stood by the desk, crossing her arms and using her standing to back them up without blinking.
She said she gave them the money for the fuel.
The officers didn’t just take her word for it, though.
They looked deeper, tracking their expenses and checking both of their account statements. The screen flickered with transaction histories and bank logs.
The Starpants and Co. gym was registered under the older man living in the gym, whom they all called Sensei.
But the deputy checked Sensei’s profile, whose name turned out to be Logan Perez, a homeless man abandoned by his family on the street.
The man had no real assets, no credit, and no legal income to his name.
The only question the deputy had was, how was Perez able to afford a gym?
The teenagers had been the ones making the expenses. Their account statements said it all, receiving and sending huge amounts, and they were not eligible for that. The numbers on the screen were way too big for high schoolers, flagging system after system in the station’s database.
The Chief handled it. He happened to be in his office when the deputy informed him about the kids. He ordered the file brought straight to his desk and had the teenagers marched down the narrow hallway into his private quarters.
Chief Frost, inside his office, stared at the two teenagers sitting right in front of his desk.
Eriko, Beam, and Princess happened to be in the office, standing near the walls and keeping their eyes locked on the middle aged man sitting behind the heavy desk.
"Malone Griffin and Faye Grande... I have been hearing a lot about you pups... from my dear son and daughter to the Butcher case, even the free city case..." Chief Frost said. He leaned forward, his heavy hands resting on top of the dark wood.
His mustache stretched out, making him look like some western villain from an old movie.
But actually, he was the opposite. He was a man who knew every single law in this town and enforced them with an iron grip.
"Dad, the Butcher case was a kidnapping case. Child trafficking..." Beam tried to explain to her father, taking a quick step toward the front of the desk.
"I am not talking to you, my prodigal daughter... the girl who decided to leave home for a girl," the Chief said, not even looking at the girl. His eyes remained fixed on Faye and Malo, cold and unmoving.
"I still come home to get some clothes, and I said I wouldn’t miss home on full moons..." Beam said, rolling her eyes slightly and shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
Her father just shook his head. He might always be busy with town affairs and hardly come home, but he did know what his kids were up to.
Nothing in Oakland escaped his radar for long, especially not the things happening under his own bloodline.
"I heard you killed my son?" the Chief said, staring at Faye.
Malo’s heart hammered against his ribs so loud he thought the whole room could hear it. Sweat broke out on the back of his neck, and his hands started trembling on his lap.
"Chief, my friend here has nothing to do with Peamah’s death... you can ask Sergeant Shelley. She definitely knows who ripped his heart out..." Malo rushed out his words, the panic taking over his tongue. That boy didn’t want to end up in juvie. He was ready to put the blame on the purple-haired girl called Sasha just to get the police pressure off his shoulders. After all, it was all Sasha..
Faye kicked his leg hard under the chair, her shoe catching his shin with a sharp dull thud. He winced, swallowing his next words instantly. He was supposed to stay quiet instead of exposing them all to the man who controlled the entire force.
Faye sat up straight in her chair, holding the Chief’s heavy glare without dropping her gaze for a second.
"Your son is clearly alive. Don’t know what you are talking about," Faye said, her voice remaining steady even as the air in the room grew thick.
"As their father, I know when my offspring’s heart stops beating. When I felt my son’s heart rip out, It was like mine was being ripped out... replaced by your spare heart, breaking the connection I had with my boy..." the Chief said. His voice dropped into a low, gravelly tone that sent a sudden cold shiver through everyone standing near the walls.
Then tension in the office rose as everyone realized what the Chief meant.
Princess froze where she stood near the corner. Beam stopped breathing, her eyes widening as she stared at her father. Eriko’s hand slowly moved toward his side, his posture stiffening as the full weight of the Chief’s words landed in the small room. He knew. He had known the whole time, feeling the spiritual break in his own family bloodline the exact second it happened.
The Chief leaned back in his big leather chair, letting the quiet hang over them like a thick fog. A dark, terrifying smile crept onto his face as he watched the color drain completely from Faye’s skin.
"I wonder how the Alpha King will react when he finds out that the Moon Wolf he has been searching for years has been living under his roof..." From looking at Faye, he turned to Princess, his sharp eyes locking onto his own blood.
"and that his own granddaughter has already given the Moon Wolf four pups."
