Chapter 1712: The Girl Troubled by Her Origin

4 min read

After a while, Justin Kingston said to her, "Return to the King’s palace first, protect yourself well, and notify me immediately if there’s any emergency situation with Ian Shelby.""Alright."

Jocelyn Morgan didn’t stay here for long and left with her mission.

Riventhal, at dusk, Emerald Cove bathed in sunset.

Mia Lane brought the newly developed antidote downstairs, accompanied by several bodyguards, and boarded a private flight to Lorelei.

With her support, the perfect plan to force the murderer to reveal their true form is about to unfold.

In the hospital.

In the spacious and comfortable VIP ward, Carlotta Sterling lay on the white bed, her head wrapped in bandages, wearing an oxygen mask and still in a coma.

Nathan Mills sat in the chair at the bedside, worriedly holding her hand, his mood extremely heavy.

Janelle Mills stood by the window, staring blankly outside, unknowingly lost in thought.

Trevor came in with some fruits, placing the bag lightly on the bedside table, then walked toward the girl by the window; she didn’t notice his arrival.

Janelle couldn’t help but start thinking again: Who am I?

This question almost confounded her.

Since she knew she wasn’t biological, she couldn’t help overthinking, even though in front of her dad she pretended to know nothing, she also didn’t plan on recognizing her biological parents.

But her once complete heart seemed to have cracks, which may never heal, it will be a permanent scar.

The issue of her parentage feels like a heavy stone pressing on her heart.

Trevor stood by her side, observing her expression, seeing that her thoughts had drifted away, and could also empathize with her feelings.

He felt very distressed, not knowing what he could do for her.

He just reached out to gently hold her shoulder, and Janelle returned from her daze, turning to meet his gaze, she smiled understandingly, "You’re back?"

He felt even more distressed, her smile was masking her wounds.

"Janelle, do you guys...want to take turns here?" he suggested, "Auntie won’t wake up for now and will need to stay in the hospital for a while, if the two of you stay here, neither of you will rest well."

Nathan Mills heard, and it was exactly what he wanted to say, "Trevor, please take Janelle back for a good rest first."

"Dad..."

"Go back, child," Old Mills said to her, "Rest now and come over tomorrow morning to switch with me. I need to go back to the company for a bit tomorrow morning to handle some things."

Janelle was silent, her mom hadn’t woken up yet.

Trevor’s gaze fell on her face, waiting for her to decide.

Nathan Mills spoke again, "Go back, you don’t need to all be here, taking turns is fine, Trevor’s company also has things to deal with."

"I’m fine, the work has already been handed over," he replied, "I just hope you all can get good rest, after all, the long recovery period will be in the hospital."

Janelle didn’t want Trevor to be so tired either, so she nodded in agreement, "Okay, then we’ll go back first, and come over tomorrow morning."

Nathan Mills was also relieved, "Go ahead, stay safe on your way."

With that, Trevor put his arm around Janelle’s shoulder and guided her out.

Leaving the hospital, he drove the car to the riverbank, lowering the window and slowing down the speed.

Janelle sat in the passenger seat, her gaze looking out the window, somewhat distracted because of her parentage.

After a while, Trevor pulled the car over to a stop, and Janelle gradually came back to herself, turning to look at him, realizing that this wasn’t the way home.

Their gazes met, and Trevor softly said to her, "Shall I accompany you for a stroll?"

Walking by the river, feeling the wind, chatting, could untie a substantial part of the mind’s knot, one shouldn’t confine oneself.

Janelle unbuckled her seatbelt, ready to open the door and get out.

Trevor had been pondering how to pull her out of this vortex?

It’s his responsibility as a boyfriend.
