Janelle Mills was stunned for a moment, she was truly at a loss. The nurse inserted the needle without observing her subtle expressions and focused on drawing blood.
Throughout the blood donation process, Janelle’s mind gradually went blank, and her arm didn’t feel any pain at all.
The nurse’s words kept repeating in her mind.
"It’s done, press a bit longer," the nurse said as she removed the needle.
Janelle pressed the cotton swab on the injection site while sitting on the stool. She pressed for a minute, and the nurse had long left with the blood bag, leaving her alone.
She only disposed of the cotton swab when there was no more bleeding, feeling like an empty puppet as she slowly stood up, her face a little pale.
Soon, a doctor came over, "You can leave now, the blood is being transfused, the surgery is going smoothly." He wanted to reassure her.
She looked at the doctor, and with an anxious heart, gently asked, "Doctor, is it true that an AB-type mother cannot have an O-type blood child?"
"Yes." The doctor nodded affirmatively, without a moment’s hesitation.
Janelle felt as if she’d been struck by lightning! But she controlled herself, lightly curled her lips, "I see, thank you, Doctor."
"You should go out, you just gave blood, don’t stand too long, have a seat on the bench."
"Okay."
Janelle walked out of the emergency room with heavy steps, feeling she was like a walking corpse.
Trevor quickly approached her, "Janelle." He took her hand to check on her, tenderly rolling down her sleeve.
The words the doctor said replayed in her mind, a crack appeared deep inside her heart, a kind of pain that was different from the survival concerns she held for Sister Sterling.
"Janelle..." Trevor noticed her odd state, suspecting she might have learned something, he held her shoulders, "Janelle, are you okay?" He gazed down at her.
Slowly, the girl lifted her eyes, tears brimming as she looked at him. She couldn’t help but wrap her arms around his waist, burying her head deeply in his chest, and tightly closing her eyes.
How could this be possible?
How could she not be Sister Sterling’s daughter?
Trevor embraced her lovingly, his gaze once again meeting Nathan Mills’.
At this moment, the air outside the emergency room felt somewhat frozen.
Inside the emergency room, a high-stakes surgery was underway. Mia Lane was fully focused, successfully excising the tumor.
At that moment, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, gaining more admiration for her. Next up was the nerve-wracking brain suturing, which she continued to handle.
"Go inform the family," Mia Lane softly instructed, not stopping her actions, her voice gentle, "Tell them the surgery went very well, the tumor has been successfully removed, and they can rest easy."
She understood the anxiety family members feel while waiting for news, especially after several hours.
"Okay." An assistant removed their gloves and stepped outside.
The emergency room doors opened once more, and the three outside who had remained silent swiftly approached.
The doctor, smiling and relaxed, brought this good news to everyone—
"The surgery went very well, the tumor was benign and has been successfully removed. The patient is not in danger of life, though he might be unconscious for a while, and the brain suturing is ongoing."
"That’s wonderful!" Nathan Mills let out a long breath of relief.
Janelle was also quite happy, but she carried a heavy question in her heart, so her emotions were mixed.
After reporting, the assistant doctor turned back inside.
"Dad, you wait here, I’ll go down for a bit." Janelle’s lips curved slightly, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes.
