Chapter 1158: 1158: What’s Going On

4 min read

Luo Yirui made a hand gesture to Little Fatty, who nodded. The two of them headed back together, climbing out of the boiling-water room and returning to Luo Yirui’s room. Once they were back, Little Fatty locked the window, then plopped down on the soft sofa and let out a long breath.

"Scared the hell out of Brother Pang. Are all you Modern Family people this explosive?"

As soon as he came in, Luo Yirui dove straight into the covers. With this kind of weather, and it being past three in the morning, it was seriously cold!

Little Fatty actually knew his manners. After coming in, he knew he’d been crawling around outside and wasn’t clean, so he didn’t run straight to the bed. Instead he shrank into the soft chair. Even though he was fat, he was cold too!

"If you’re cold then get in here and warm up," Luo Yirui said.

Hearing that, Little Fatty immediately beamed and ran over, lifting the quilt and burrowing underneath. In no time he felt a bit warmer, and after getting the advantage he still put on airs: "I actually didn’t want to get in, but seeing how sincere you were, I couldn’t bear to reject your wishes, right?"

Luo Yirui shot him a glare. Only after he’d warmed up did he feel like his tongue was working again.

It was cold, but there was also a layer of fright mixed in. From the moment they went out to when they sensed something was wrong and came back, there’d just been too many weird things start to finish!

First was that window stuck between the two floors. Normally there should definitely be a space in between, but from the inside there was absolutely no way to get in. Could it be a space with a window but no door?

Then there was Wen Xin, which was the strangest of all. They still didn’t know how Wen Xin got injured. What was she doing in the middle of the night? And where did she go in the end?

Luo Yirui suddenly thought of that moment when she’d held onto the railing—that lifeless face with no emotion at all, dull and vacant...

Just that face alone gave Luo Yirui a few extra chills for nothing.

He and Little Fatty whispered about everything that had happened tonight, the two of them huddled under the quilt analyzing for a long time. Even though they didn’t figure anything out, it did bring them a lot closer.

They kept talking, and maybe it was just too warm, but before long they’d both fallen asleep.

Maybe this little "sharing a bed and pillow" laid the foundation for their friendship, so that in later clan sect scuffles over interests, they both held back a bit and never pushed things to the absolute limit.

Little Fatty slept until five in the morning, then hurriedly got up, got dressed, and followed the window route back to his own room. If anyone found out he’d been together with someone from a Modern Family, never mind the other families, even You Mingxiang wouldn’t let him off.

Being together during the day is different. People from an Ancient Family will think you’re just gathering information. But being together at night—now that’s hard to explain away.

Come to think of it, You Mingxiang’s temper has gotten much better. She’s not like before, always mocking him at the drop of a hat. Now at most she just keeps a cold face and doesn’t speak.

Watching him go back to his own room, Luo Yirui realized he actually lived just one room up on the floor above. That distance was really pretty close!

Seeing that Little Fatty got back without making any noise, Luo Yirui climbed back into bed for a second round of sleep.

He slept straight past eight, and only got up when his mom knocked on the door.

For breakfast he dragged his mom to eat in the main hall, figuring he might be able to overhear some Wen Family news. If Wen Xin had gone missing, the Wen Family would definitely be looking for her!

While eating, Luo Yirui heard two people from the Wen Family joking that the Family Head had been having a hard time lately; every day he slept until noon... That was a bit different from what Luo Yirui had imagined.

Wen Xin hadn’t gone missing, nor was there any word about her being seriously injured. Everything was calm and peaceful, as if nothing had ever happened.
