Chapter 313: The Reavers

6 min read

The Eternal Loom stretched in all directions like a living canvas of possibility, its threads of raw creation pulsing with colors no mortal eye could name. This was no gentle paradise of clouds and harps. It was order forged in violence, a realm where concepts were born screaming and realities were tested until they broke or endured. Vast spires of crystallized law rose from oceans of liquid potential, their surfaces etched with the final moments of failed universes. Floating citadels drifted between them, home to lesser gods and their servants—beings of pure intent who maintained the balance their masters demanded. Aeloria had once walked these paths as one of their own. Now, in her absence, the realm had grown colder, more rigid. The air itself felt measured, every breath calculated to serve the greater design.

High above it all, in the Apex Spire—a tower of unyielding white marble veined with living gold—sat Vaelor. The Elder. The First Among Equals. He appeared as a tall, regal figure with skin like polished obsidian and eyes that held the quiet weight of infinite endings. No crown adorned his head; he needed none. His mere presence bent probability around him, making outcomes lean toward stability.

A lesser god approached the throne dais with careful steps. Lirian was one of the newer creations, still bright with fresh power—a being of flowing silver light shaped roughly like a man, his form flickering with equations and geometric patterns. He bowed low, voice resonant but respectful.

"Elder Vaelor. The disturbances have grown clearer. We have sensed her signature again. Aeloria. She has opened a deeper breach into the outer voids. The anomaly we detected weeks ago... it bears her mark unmistakably."

Vaelor leaned forward slightly, fingers steepled. His voice rolled like distant thunder wrapped in silk. "Explain."

Lirian straightened, though his light dimmed with nerves. "The outer universe she fled to—it was sealed tightly for millennia. But recent fractures suggest she is active once more. Stronger. One of her planted seeds has begun to bloom in ways we did not anticipate. A hybrid. Vampire-Demon-Human Authority fused into something new. The readings indicate she is guiding him personally. Training him."

Vaelor’s eyes narrowed. The air around the spire grew heavier, as if the realm itself held its breath. "She always was reckless. Planting wild seeds and calling it progress. How many of our brothers and sisters did she drag down with her last rebellion?"

"Seventeen confirmed eradicated in the final clash," Lirian answered carefully. "More unaccounted for. The balance has only recently stabilized."

Vaelor rose from his throne, the simple motion causing ripples across nearby threads of creation. "And now she seeks to create a weapon capable of challenging us again. Typical. She never understood that true order requires pruning. What is the status of the hybrid?"

"Rapid ascension. He has already defied one of her collection points and retrieved a soul she had claimed. His interference is... unpredictable. Dangerous."

A long silence followed. Vaelor walked to the edge of the dais, gazing out across the Loom. Below, lesser gods moved between citadels like diligent gardeners, trimming errant realities and reinforcing failing laws. Mortals in the woven worlds would never know how many times their existence had been saved—or ended—by decisions made in this place.

"She was my sister once," Vaelor said quietly, almost to himself. "Before ambition twisted her. Before she decided chaos was more beautiful than harmony." He turned back to Lirian. "We cannot allow her experiment to mature. If this hybrid reaches full bloom, he could unravel decades of careful balance. Send for Korrath and Selene."

Lirian’s light flickered in surprise. "The Reavers?"

Vaelor’s expression remained serene, but the temperature in the spire dropped sharply. "Yes. My most trusted. They understand what must be done when mercy fails."

Moments later, the air tore open at the base of the dais. Two figures emerged from the rift.

Korrath was a mountain of a being, easily twice the height of most gods, his form armored in shifting plates of void-forged metal. Cracks in the armor revealed swirling galaxies within. His face was a stern mask of jagged lines, eyes burning with cold white fire. He carried no weapon—his hands were enough. He had ended entire civilizations with a single clench of his fist.

Beside him stood Selene, smaller but no less terrifying. Lithe and elegant, her skin shimmered like liquid starlight, long hair flowing as if underwater. Her eyes were voids of pure black, capable of unmaking concepts with a glance. Where Korrath represented raw termination, Selene embodied elegant erasure—she could convince a universe it had never existed in the first place.

Both knelt immediately.

"You summoned us, Elder," Korrath rumbled, voice like grinding tectonic plates.

Vaelor descended the steps, stopping before them. "Aeloria has surfaced. She is guiding a dangerous seed in a sealed outer realm. I want her retrieved. Alive, if possible. The hybrid... deal with him as you see fit. But do not allow him to reach full maturity. Prune the garden before it overruns us."

Selene’s black eyes gleamed with interest. "The fallen sister. It has been long since we hunted one of our own."

Korrath cracked his massive knuckles. "It will be done. No realm remains hidden from us for long."

Vaelor placed a hand on each of their shoulders. Power flowed—blessings and commands woven into their very essence. "Go with the full authority of the Loom. Restore balance. And if she resists... remind her why she fled in the first place."

The two Reavers rose as one. Without another word, they turned and stepped back through the rift, the portal sealing behind them with a sound like snapping fate.

Lirian remained, watching nervously. "Will they be enough?"

Vaelor returned to his throne, expression unreadable. "They have ended greater threats. Aeloria is powerful, but she is alone. Her precious seeds will not save her this time."

Far below, in the lower levels of the Loom, lesser gods continued their endless work—trimming, reinforcing, maintaining the grand design. None of them knew how close their ordered world had just come to another fracture.

But Vaelor knew.

And he would not allow his sister’s chaos to bloom again.
