Chapter 666: We Envy You

6 min read

"Henwell! Is that you? Have you come to save me?"Henwell raises a hand and grips Pacino's weakly lifted palm. "Brother, it is me! But I am not the one saving you. You are the one saving me!"

Pacino struggles to squeeze Henwell's hand. "Henwell, listen to me! There is a conspiracy aimed at you. You need to be careful..."

Henwell lightly pats his hand. "I know. That is why I say you came to save me."

"Rest well now. When you wake up, I will have handled everything!"

Pacino says, "Henwell, listen to me! It isn't that simple."

"King Amir has been controlled. I don't know by whom, but his freedom has already been restricted."

"Fabio and Spencer have been sent away. The young heirs of the other powers friendly to you have also been sent away."

"This isn't a killing trap aimed at you. It is a killing trap for Arius. You have to hurry and save him."

"King Amir's birthday comes before the Autumn Harvest Festival. By then, Arius has already returned from Billie. He doesn't know what has happened."

"Someone wants to kill him. Everyone has agreed that he should die. All the kingdom's dukes are involved. They are doing this behind your back..."

At this point, Pacino begins coughing violently, and Henwell raises a hand to stop him from continuing.

"Enough. It is enough that I know. I will handle everything!"

"No one can kill Arius. He won't die, and neither will you. I will protect all of you."

Pacino forces out a smile. "Henwell, let me ask you something. Why were you willing to talk to me back then?"

Henwell smiles. "Because you were interesting, of course. I like people like you, people who feel real."

"You are different from them. You feel more like a living person. You don't have so many schemes. You simply live happily."

"I am caught in a world of shifting schemes and hidden struggles, so I envy you, standing in the sunlight."

"I wasn't pitying you. Fabio and Arius weren't pitying you either."

"We only envied you. Compared with you, who could do the things you liked, we were the pitiful ones controlled by power and desire."

A happy smile appears on Pacino's pale face. "Then that is good. I also treated all of you as friends."

"Henwell, I suppose I walked your old Path of Honor in reverse."

"I really admire you."

"Back then, you were only a teenager, yet you survived so many dangers."

Henwell chuckles. "You are impressive too. You walked it too."

Pacino's gaze begins to drift. "Henwell, as a friend of the lord of Blood Hill, I didn't shame you, did I?"

Henwell says, "No. Baron of Waterhill, at a moment of crisis, crossed through hardships and dangers to save the arrogant lord of Blood Hill."

"The entire kingdom will know of your courage, and the entire kingdom will praise your character!"

"That sounds like a pretty good story."

"It is. I will find the best playwright and have them write you a brilliant story that can spread across the whole continent."

Pacino still wants to say something, but he coughs hard twice and spends a long time catching his breath before he finally calms a little.

"Henwell, I am honored to be your friend!"

Henwell nods. "The honor is mine as well!"

"Henwell, why can I not see?"

The Light of Civilization and Blood Will on Henwell erupt again as he struggles to maintain Pacino's vitality.

"Henwell, I am going to die. It is a pity that I can't see the splendor of your future. It will surely be the most magnificent epic. I am truly curious about it."

Henwell says, "Yes. There will definitely be many stories. I will tell them to you!"

"Henwell..."

At this point, Pacino is already breathing out more than he breathes in. His eyes become empty, and he struggles to say something.

Henwell grips his hand with both hands. "Brother, don't worry. I know."

"I will take care of your family and your child. I will raise him as one of my own children!"

A moment later, Henwell feels Pacino's hand tighten. Then Pacino's palm slowly falls.

Henwell holds Pacino's hand and silently looks at his corpse inside the carriage.

No one knows how long passes before Henwell comes out of the carriage again.

Now, Henwell carries Pacino's body on his back. He tears open his own outer robe and ties the corpse to his back.

Then he tears off another strip of cloth and ties it around his forehead.

After a whistle, Night Charger rushes over. Henwell turns and mounts, then rides all the way toward Peace Haven.

Wizet leads the Lord Iron Guards and follows close behind Henwell as he leaves.

Watching Henwell's back disappear into the distance, Doyle sighs and orders, "Prepare for war!"

Everyone watching along the road realizes that something terrible is about to happen when they see Henwell returning with a corpse on his back.

This time, Military Governor Virgil opens the checkpoint early. As a Grand Knight, he can feel the surging killing intent on Henwell's body.

Virgil sighs and orders, "Notify every unit. Prepare for war!"

By the time Henwell returns to Blood Hill Manor, midnight has already passed.

Melissa hurries over and embraces Henwell. "What happened? I heard my father did something behind your back!"

Henwell tightly hugs his wife. After a moment, he comforts her. "It is fine. I am here. I will handle everything!"

That night, in the study, Henwell lowers his eyes and thinks about something.

His fingers tap the tabletop in a steady rhythm, but his gaze grows colder and colder.

Henwell says softly, "Someone betrayed me."

Kleios walks out of the darkness and signs, "Do you want me to handle something?"

Henwell says nothing, and Kleios retreats back into the darkness.

Now, many Peace Haven's high officials have gathered outside Blood Hill Manor.

Victor steps forward and asks Melissa, "Madam! Is my lord still unwilling to see us?"

Melissa shakes her head. "He is in a very bad mood right now. Go back and rest. Come see him tomorrow!"

Just then, one of the manor's windows explodes, and a figure flies backward out of it.

Henwell's surging killing intent tears apart every object in the study and raises a blood-red storm.

Henwell's eyes are red. His fingers crackle as he clenches them, and he mutters, "How dare you? How dare you betray me?"

"I gave you the chance to live as people. I gave you the chance to stand above others."

"And now, you want to control my will and make decisions for me..."

Henwell, who has already fallen into a frenzied state, blasts Kleios out of the room, immediately drawing the attention of everyone outside.

Victor and the others draw their longswords one after another and quickly protect Melissa behind them.

The Lord Iron Guards stationed across the manor rush out, ready to kill Kleios, who has flown out the window.

Melissa shouts, "Stand down! That is my shadow guard! Do not worry!"

After saying that, Melissa pushes through the crowd and quickly walks toward Kleios, who has just climbed up from the ground and is still gasping for breath.

"Are you all right?"

As Henwell's wife, Melissa naturally knows Kleios, this shadow guard.

Kleios gently shakes her head, indicating that she is fine.

Melissa looks toward the study with deep worry. She sighs, has the others wait outside, and prepares to go in and persuade Henwell.
