Chapter 374: Ella or Mrs. King

5 min read

Bertha bowed to Adrian,"Good morning, Second Young Master. You look... exceptionally well today. Shall I serve breakfast?""Yes," Once Adrian took a seat, he tapped his fingers on the table, his eyes darting toward the hallway again, "And... where is she?"

Bertha paused in surprise,"Miss Yu? She left quite early this morning, sir. She mentioned having an appointment."

Even without his memories, the second master was still looking for Miss Yu. Bertha felt a pang of bittersweet hope, but it was quickly dashed.

Adrian looked away calmly, "Good. I was just making sure my morning wouldn’t be ruined."

Bertha: "_"

The surrounding servants: "_"

’You’re the one who practically forced her to move in last night,’ they all thought in unison, but not a single soul dared to voice it.

Adrian waved a hand dismissively, his bubbly demeanor returning as he pointed toward the French windows, "The light is perfect today. Have the staff set up my easel and paints in the garden.’’

...

While Adrian was busy convincing himself he was relieved by Ella’s absence, a very different scene was unfolding across town.

In a lavish, high-end French restaurant, a woman sat at a secluded corner table. She was elegantly dressed, her eyes shielded by designer sunglasses as she flipped through a fashion magazine with grace.

The sound of clicking heels approached. The woman tilted her sunglasses up onto her hair, revealing a face that was hauntingly delicate, like a porcelain doll that might break if touched.

"Miss Yu..."

Ella offered a calm, thin smile as she reached the table. "Miss Lana. Or should I say, Lana Yu? You shouldn’t address me as Miss Yu anymore. Don’t you think so?"

Ella pulled out the velvet chair and took a seat opposite the woman.

Lana smiled. She glanced out of the floor-to-ceiling glass windows at the bustling city below,"Fate is a strange thing, isn’t it? Only a few months ago, I was struggling just to exist. I never expected life would take such a turn. To think... I would end up being the real daughter of the Yu family."

Lana turned her gaze back to Ella, her eyes brimming with a pitying,"Ah... I hope I haven’t hurt you by saying that. I know how difficult it must be for you, losing your status and your family name all at once."

Ella didn’t flinch. She leaned back, her composure like polished steel against Lana’s softness, "Don’t worry about my feelings, Lana. My skin is a lot thicker than yours, and I’ve found that a family name is only heavy if you don’t know how to carry your own weight.

Nobody recognizes me by my family name because I’m busy making a name for myself. I’m not that easy to hurt."

Lana’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. The silence that followed was heavy.

"I didn’t call you here to discuss our family trees or to exchange pleasantries about fate," Ella continued.

"Then, what is it that you want to talk about?" Lana paused, "I don’t think I have offended you in any way."

"I guessed that you’d have such a weak memory," Ella swayed her palm around the restaurant as she said, "Don’t you find this place familiar?"

Lana’s expressions changed suddenly.

Ella nodded and leaned back on her chair, "It seems you haven’t lost your memory completely yet."

"I don’t know what you are talking about..."

"You met my man in this place, some time ago."

Lana paused, "I... Mr. King had invited me, Miss Yu..."

"Call me Ella," Ella coldly cut her off, "What’s between me and the Yu Family, I will face it some other day. But even without those things, I have nothing to do with them so naturally, you can call me Ella."

Lana’s brows tugged together.

"...or you can also call me Mrs. King," Ella picked the glass of water and took a sip of it, "Whatever you deem fit."

"Mrs. King?" Lana’s face changed, "Although he is dating you now, but you haven’t married him yet and there is..."

"Those are our private matters," Most of them knew that Adrian and her were dating because their marriage had been an intimate one.

’So intimate that it was probably just the two of you... oh Ji Yan too,’ Ella sighed inwardly.

"Then, what do you want from me?" Lana looked a bit helpless, "I don’t think we have ever had bad blood but now you are putting me on spot like this. It’s true that I met Mr. King some time ago but it was initiated by him. Don’t you think you should question him instead of me?"

Ella fell silent.

There were a lot of things that were left unsaid between her and Adrian. She had wanted to talk to him but life played a joke on them.

Adrian no longer remembered past things anymore. If she brought up the questions from past now, Adrian would likely scoff and accuse her of hallucinating a dramatic backstory to entrap him.

But the accident and it’s consequences were a completely confidential thing. Nobody knew that the formidable Adrian King had switched up to become a completely different person after losing his memories.

Ella snapped out of her thoughts when the screech of Lana’s chair echoed against the polished floor. Lana had stood up at some point.

"If that is all you have to say to me, I will leave," Lana said, reaching for her clutch.

"You misunderstood me," Ella looked at the woman calmly, "I am not here to play the jealous partner or blame you for anything. I’m merely curious about a few things."

Lana froze, listening.

Ella continued, her eyes fixed on the other woman’s face. "How do you know Adrian? I want the truth."

Lana remained silent, her fingers tightening around the strap of her bag.

Ella didn’t rush the woman.

Ella had never doubted Adrian’s integrity. However, since the day she had seen Adrian and Lana talking in the Main Mansion of Kings, she knew they were familiar with each other.
