Chapter 33: The Temptation of Power Armor

6 min read

He had, of course, heard about power armor from Simon and Bena.

It was equipment countless times more powerful than an exoskeleton.

Power armor not only offered powerful protection but also significantly enhanced the wearer’s offensive power and mobility.

This kind of equipment was an absolute treasure in the wasteland. If he could get his hands on a suit, his chances of survival would increase dramatically.

If the power armor Lei Hu was talking about really existed, then this mission was absolutely worth a shot.

Ye Yun replied immediately:

"Lei Hu, are you certain there’s power armor in there?"

Lei Hu:

"Of course. I saw it with my own eyes, and there’s more than one suit."

"However, I couldn’t confirm the exact number. My conservative estimate is at least three suits, probably more."

Ye Yun:

"If there’s really power armor, I’m in."

"However, we need a detailed plan to ensure a high chance of success."

Lei Hu:

"Don’t worry, I’ve already got a plan."

When Lei Hu saw Ye Yun agree, he immediately replied:

"Excellent! With you on board, Ye Yun, our odds are much better."

"I’ve already prepared the details of the plan. We need to assemble the team first, then we can discuss it thoroughly."

Seeing that Ye Yun was in, Adam and Sima Yue also said they would participate. It was clear they both knew something about power armor and had no intention of missing out on this golden opportunity that had landed right in front of them.

Only Seman said she needed to think about it.

Lei Hu didn’t press the issue, saying he understood Seman’s hesitation.

After all, alliances like this were based on voluntary participation. If someone wasn’t willing, you couldn’t force them.

The warehouse wasn’t too far from his shelter, but it wasn’t exactly close, either.

Without transportation, it would take a minimum of ten hours on foot. With a vehicle, they could make it in under four hours.

Of course, having a vehicle would shorten the trip significantly.

Hearing it was a ten-hour walk, the two newcomers grew hesitant. ’Just the travel time is that long.’

This meant there was no way they could complete the mission within 24 hours.

But the thought of the power armor’s allure was enough for them to swallow their objections.

Although the warehouse was well-defended, its secluded location meant the guard force wasn’t as large as one might think.

Lei Hu had been observing it for a while and had a decent understanding of the warehouse’s defensive layout.

The warehouse’s regular security detail consisted of only nine people, who were split into three rotating shifts.

The transport team that moved supplies was a bit larger, numbering around 15 to 20 people. As long as they avoided the transport times, the warehouse’s defenses would be at their weakest.

Furthermore, for the sake of secrecy, the warehouse wasn’t very close to the nearest settlement.

Even if the guards had communication devices to call for backup, as long as they dealt with them quickly, they could be long gone before any reinforcements arrived.

After hearing the plan, Ye Yun nodded. ’No wonder Lei Hu said he could probably take the warehouse on his own.’

If it was only nine people, and nine *ordinary* people at that, then handling them wouldn’t be much of a problem.

However, Ye Yun quickly thought of a very serious problem.

"Wait a minute... that doesn’t add up. If there’s power armor in the warehouse..."

"Even with only nine people, their strength can’t be underestimated. The three of us combined probably couldn’t even take on a single suit of power armor."

Hearing Ye Yun’s question, the other two immediately realized it too.

"That’s right. We all know how strong power armor is. If they actually have it, there’s no way we can fight them with our current strength."

"If they have power armor, I’m out."

...

Lei Hu:

"The three of you can relax. If they could actually use the power armor, they would definitely wear it on patrol."

"But I’ve had my people watching their warehouse for days, and we’ve never seen the patrols use power armor. It’s the transport escorts who have it—two of them wear power armor during shipments."

"You should also know that as powerful as power armor is, its energy consumption is no small matter. It’s impossible to use it for extended periods."

"All we have to do is take out the patrol squad with lightning speed, before they can even react. The rest will be easy."

Ye Yun’s brow furrowed slightly.

’This plan sounds a little shaky, doesn’t it?’

Without hesitation, Ye Yun input a command into his wristband.

[Participate in Lei Hu’s current operation]

[Assessment Type: Resource Point Raid]

[Assessing operational risk...]

[Assessment: White Item Probability 9.995%, Green Item Probability 10%, Blue Item Probability 30%, Purple Item Probability 50.005%, Risk Factor: 9.012%]

Seeing the 50% probability of obtaining a Purple-grade item, Ye Yun gasped.

’There really is a high probability of finding power armor in that warehouse!’

But seeing the 9% risk factor, he frowned again.

A 9% risk factor was an awkward number—not too high, but not too low either.

Based on his past experiences, a risk factor like this most likely meant the team would suffer casualties, possibly even a death.

Some sacrifice was reasonable for a suit of power armor.

If it was just a bionic person being sacrificed, he would have agreed without a second thought.

After all, bionic people were a renewable resource; with enough materials, they could be produced almost endlessly.

However, if one of the four—Bena and the others—were sacrificed, he would feel the sting.

After all this time gelling and training together, their individual stats were already quite good. They had developed a tacit understanding and formed a very stable combat unit.

Damage dealer, tank, rover, and healer—it was a perfect party composition. The group would be incomplete if any one of them was missing.

If any of them were to die, re-creating such a team would take who knows how long.

But if he missed this chance, getting another shot at power armor would likely be a long, long time away.

At this stage of the game, a suit of power armor would be a massive advantage.

After thinking for a long moment, Ye Yun finally gritted his teeth.

’My luck can’t be *that* bad.’

’Worst case, I’ll have the bionic people show some dauntless courage and sacrifice themselves to reduce the chance of anyone else getting hurt.’

Of course, Ye Yun also planned to equip them with extra magnetic shields.

After all, as long as that thing’s durability held, the person it protected was practically invincible.
