Scarlett Yates paused for a few seconds, suddenly finding it unbelievable that someone like him would believe such rumors so easily. No wonder he behaved so oddly when the Ferris wheel reached its highest point earlier.
Could Maxwell Saxon really be so superstitious?
Scarlett stared at him for a few seconds, blinking in surprise, "So, is that why you’re here?"
Maxwell nodded.
It was as if he read her mind, and he emphasized once again, "The Ferris wheel here is famously magical, unlike anywhere else."
Scarlett couldn’t help but laugh, "Maxwell Saxon, did you ever hear that couples riding the Ferris wheel together usually end up breaking up?"
Upon hearing this, Maxwell’s brow furrowed immediately, "Is there such a saying?"
It seemed he truly had no knowledge of these things.
Actually, what she had said earlier wasn’t entirely complete; the widely spread saying was that lovers who ride the Ferris wheel together eventually break up, but if they kiss when the Ferris wheel reaches its highest point, they’ll be happy forever.
She dared not say the latter part because if she did, Maxwell might drag her to ride it again immediately.
"Didn’t you say the Ferris wheel here is different from elsewhere? So that saying won’t work here." Scarlett feared he might take the issue seriously, and if he found out about the latter part, what if he forcibly kissed her? Wouldn’t she be bringing about her own downfall?
She quickly made up a comforting explanation.
"You’re right," Maxwell stretched out his hand suddenly, pulling her into his arms, his long fingers tilting her chin up, eyes fixed on hers, with a flicker of fire dancing within them, "We won’t break up; you’re destined to be my woman."
His certainty startled Scarlett.
"Young Master." A voice came from behind them; the young driver stood not far away with his head lowered.
Maxwell released Scarlett and walked over to the driver.
The two exchanged a few words in low voices, amid the noisy surroundings, Scarlett couldn’t make out what they were saying.
After about ten seconds, Maxwell turned back to her side.
"Scarlett, I have an urgent matter to handle. Little Chapman will drive you back now. There’s a dinner tonight, and you’ll be accompanying me as my date, don’t forget to put on the jewelry I bought for you today." He informed her of the evening plans, in a tone that sounded just like a notification, leaving her no room for choice.
Having said that, he decided unilaterally, "I’ll be at the Yates Family’s place to pick you up in exactly three hours."
Hearing he had a sudden engagement, Scarlett was secretly glad; but when she realized she had to attend the dinner with him, she felt as if a bucket of cold water had drenched her, leaving her heart cold.
"Can’t I skip it? I’m feeling exhausted, and wanted an early rest tonight..."
"No, you can’t." Maxwell rejected her without hesitation, regardless of her tired and weary act, his refusal was straightforward, "If you truly feel tired, you can return early in the evening, but the dinner is a must-attend."
"Scarlett, I hope my date will be beautifully dressed and waiting for me. I know you won’t let me down, right?" Maxwell softly caressed her cheek, his thin lips curving slightly in a gentle smile.
