Chapter 31

2 min read

It blasted into Emma, shaking her off-balance and throwing her petite body back. In that moment… “Ah—” …something broke in Emma. It was what she had been protecting with the utmost devotion. On impact, she felt like she was drifting—hazy, as her consciousness quickly flickered white. Emma felt her own Excalibur slowly cracking. “Why…am I…? Why did the Rothschild…? I couldn’t…have been…beaten by you…?” Emma muttered to herself, as her consciousness and body floated through the air… “Isn’t that obvious? It’s because our vassals are different,” Luna answered plainly back. “AAAAAAAAH!” “WHOAAAAAA!” In the battlefield, two screaming souls mixed together. Rintarou and Sir Lamorak blended as one as they passed by each other. Their swords swung in their full range. “……” “……” The battlefield was unbelievably silent. It was serene, as though time itself had ground to a halt. There was none of the thrill and adrenaline, none of those shrill whines of impacted weapons. It seemed far away—almost as though they had never existed at all. Felicia, Sir Gawain, and Sir Kay gulped as they watched over them. Rintarou and Sir Lamorak were still in the same position as they were when they had swung their swords. They only stood still with their backs to each other. Eventually, the silence and stillness that seemed to stretch to eternity came to an end. “…Did we…lose…?” Sir Lamorak had processed Emma’s situation in its entirety, using their spiritual channels. She opened her quivering mouth, turning up as though imploring heaven. “…Eli, eli, Lema Sabachthani…? My God, my God, why have you forsaken me…?” It was as though she couldn’t know, that she just couldn’t understand… Sir Lamorak questioned God… “Isn’t it obvious? Luna and Emma… They’re so different—in terms of their abilities as Kings,” Rintarou bluntly stated. He didn’t even bother to turn around. “Jesus…!” Sir Lamorak spat at the end, before her body turned to particles of light and started to disintegrate. Her incarnation faded away, evaporating into a mist of mana. And she quietly and abruptly vanished into thin air. And then— Luna’s and Rintarou’s vision became scorching white—pure and bright. Everything was as white as it could be. The world had changed. And this fabricated one came to its end…
