Chapter 179: Blood-soaked Night (1)

6 min read

Leon had just arrived a few hours ago, so he had no idea where the enemies lived. However, Cassie knew their hideout, which was why he brought her.

The girl quickly regained her composure, then led him straight to the hideout while filling him with details about this group.

Apparently, there were eleven evolvers, all of whom were assumed to have come from the same college. Among them, only two were Tier One Evolveds, while the others were close to reaching Level 25.

According to Cassie, the group was strong, and their abilities were insidious enough to make anyone wary. This was exactly the reason why Gwen didn’t pursue revenge even though Reymond, Miguel, and Richard had reached Tier One.

She wanted to avoid conflict with that group, and thereby, avoid losses.

Unlike her, Leon wasn’t ready to ignore the group. Since they dared to attack his camp, and even dared to kill some of his people, he had every reason to wipe them out.

’Besides, they might make perfect training mobs for that Adaptation trait,’ He thought.

Soon, they arrived at the group’s hideout, which was closer to Downtown Brooklyn than it was to Williamsburg.

"Oh? Looks like they’re enjoying themselves in a hotel, huh?"

Leon smiled faintly, his posture relaxed.

Cassie glanced at him, then asked, "You’re confident in killing them all?"

Leon nodded, his amused smile gone.

"In peace times, when you visit a person, what do you do?" He asked, causing her to tilt her head.

"You knock?"

"Exactly."

Leon walked over to a ruined car, picked it up as if it was a weightless wastebasket, then threw it at the upper floor of the hotel.

BANG!

A section of the hotel walls collapsed as the vehicle impacted the wall heavily. Startled screams and curses could be heard from inside as the group living there scrambled down to the ground floor, fuming.

They had just finished partying and were about to play a wild group game when a car flew straight at them.

"What bastard creature did that?"

A woman shouted in anger as she stormed out of the hotel, her hair messy and tangled.

The instant she saw Leon and Cassie, she froze. Then, she cautiously stepped back. The other ten evolvers soon arrived and were surprised to realize that it was actually a human who had thrown that car.

"You bastard. What the hell was that? You want to die?!" A blonde young man stepped forward, his expression livid.

His partner had been hit directly by that car, and if it wasn’t because she was an evolver, she might have died.

Leon scanned the group one by one, then narrowed his eyes.

"Is this every one of them?"

Beside him, Cassie nodded. "Yes. That bald guy in the back is their leader."

Leon’s gaze fell on the middle-aged man in the back who was studying him silently. He was a little impressed, as it seemed like the man could take on Marie and not lose.

"Oi, bastard! Are you ignoring me?!" The blonde guy roared angrily, already moving to unsheath his sword.

"John, stop," The bald man said, placing a hand on his shoulder. Instantly, John fell silent and stepped aside, allowing the man to come forward.

"Young friends, why did you randomly attack us? I don’t think there is any grievance between us."

He spoke in a respectful tone that surprised even his own teammates. They had never seen him act so courteous with anyone.

Leon stared at the man, then answered in a cold voice, "Your group repeatedly harrassed mine in my absence. Is that enough reason?"

Hearing this, the disheveled woman’s eyes widened, and she pointed at Cassie.

"I knew it! No wonder that bitch looked famil—"

Leon’s black eyes snapped to her, and her remaining words got stuck in her throat.

"Did I ask you to speak?"

The woman wanted to retort, but all she could do was grit her teeth and try to contain her fear.

Leon tore his gaze off her, then looked at the middle-aged man. He had a disappointed look on his face as he stared at Leon.

"So you came for revenge? Ah, what a pity. And here I thought I could recruit you."

Leon rolled his eyes, then took out his Titanbreaker Spear from his storage ring.

The instant the spear appeared, his aura sharpened, and the bald man grew wary.

"Mary, my weapon," He said, his voice edged with tension.

The disheveled lady nodded and opened a separate dimensional space private to herself. From it, she pulled out a large mace that was even bigger than the bald man himself.

Surprisingly, the man was able to grab the thin handle and lift it onto his shoulder.

The other evolvers in the group didn’t unsheathe their weapons, as they believed their leader was enough to deal with Leon.

"Cassie, step back," Leon said, turning his gaze to her.

She looked a bit worried, but complied once he gave her a reassuring nod.

"Don’t let any of them get away."

The man noticed Cassie disappearing into the darkness, but didn’t mind. His attention was wholly focused on Leon.

"Enough chatting! You’ll die soon, after all!"

He charged at Leon, swinging the heavy mace straight at him. Leon didn’t dodge, but met the strike head-on with his spear.

BANG!

The man—Henry—took five steps back from the recoil while Leon merely took two steps.

His eyes widened as he observed the younger man with surprise. To be able to meet that strike and not lose... was shocking.

Henry was used to crushing his enemies—humans and mutated beasts alike—in one simple smash.

Yet, someone had actually blocked his attack today without collapsing.

’Does that mean he’s stronger...? No, that’s impossible.’

He shook his head, then stared at Leon with far more seriousness.

"You’re strong. But strength doesn’t mean everything."

Before he even finished talking, he dashed at Leon, and struck at a speed far greater than before. An ordinary Tier One Evolved wouldn’t have been able to follow his speed, but Leon saw it clearly and responded.

Clang!

Holding the spear with one hand as he blocked the attack without retreating, he pulled back his left arm, then struck Henry with a punch to the gut.

Bam!

Henry folded, his facial features twisting in pain and disbelief as he was launched into the air, crashing into the hotel behind him.

"Leader!"

"Henry!"

"Boss!!!"

The other evolvers were shocked, and immediately turned to Leon in anger. John, the blonde guy, growled as he unsheathed his sword.

"Chloe, go heal him. Fast."

A young girl with bright pink hair nodded and rushed upstairs to find the man’s body.

Meanwhile, John stepped forward, his eyes blazing with anger.

"You made a mistake thinking you could fight us alone," He growled, then shouted. "Cursed Weakening!"
