Chapter 423: Diamond Cuts Diamond

8 min read

Since Qin Shanshan was already pregnant, they couldn’t risk waiting any longer for fear her baby bump would start to show. So, they disregarded whether it was the right time for a banquet and rushed to hold the wedding as quickly as possible.

Qin Shanshan married Su Dan, filled with both resignation and resentment.

Upon marrying into the Su Family, the conflict between mother-in-law Miao Fenghua and daughter-in-law Qin Shanshan erupted on the very second day.

Conflict was inevitable. Miao Fenghua had always spoiled Su Dan, but Su Dan now had eyes only for Qin Shanshan, whom he also spoiled rotten. He had already started to forget his mother before the wedding, and after marrying Qin Shanshan, he forgot her completely.

How could Miao Fenghua possibly stand by and watch? She was furious enough to explode.

Miao Fenghua was no pushover, and neither was Qin Shanshan. The two were evenly matched; they had finally met their true match.

After the wedding, the constant battles between Miao Fenghua and Qin Shanshan threw the Su household into a state of utter chaos.

Relying on her wits, her pregnancy, and Su Dan’s complete obedience, Qin Shanshan entered into a dog-eat-dog fight with Miao Fenghua, and the two began to torment one another.

Su Dan ended up marrying Qin Shanshan, who then went on to battle with Miao Fenghua.

When Su Li heard the news, she couldn’t help but think, ’This is... actually pretty good.’

’It takes a villain to wear down a villain.’

In her last life, Mrs. Tang had died soon after tormenting her, so none of this had happened. In this life, she hadn’t died, which should have been a good thing for Tang Yuanxiao, but reality proved otherwise.

Life is full of uncertainties and surprises.

That saying was certainly true.

While Tang Yuanxiao, Mrs. Tang, and Qin Shanshan were caught up in their noisy drama, Su Li’s own life was busy and fulfilling.

Just as she had told Wu Sheng, her sophomore year put internships and practical simulations on the agenda.

Between Pinjun, the bookstore, and now this, Su Li was truly swamped.

Su Li had interned at a radio station over the summer. Her internship continued after the semester began, though she had moved to a different station.

She was also assigned to the radio station group for her class’s practical simulations.

They were journalism students, so the main focus was on reporting. Consequently, Su Li often found herself heading out with a notebook in search of a story.

Whether it was campus news or stories from the wider community, they were free to chase down leads and conduct their own interviews.

They would then write up their reports and submit them to the broadcasting team to be aired. Every step had to be taken seriously.

Even though it was just a simulation, everyone took it very seriously.

Su Li had never done anything like this in her previous life, so she was just as diligent as the others.

As October arrived, the weather began to cool. One day, after finishing her work, Su Li went to pick up Little Tang Mo.

When Little Tang Mo came out, he wasn’t alone. He had a ’leg accessory’ attached to him.

This wasn’t an exaggeration—he literally had a leg accessory hanging off him.

Little Tongtong was hugging Little Tang Mo’s leg, sitting on his feet and being dragged along as he walked out.

A smile immediately broke out on Little Tang Mo’s face when he saw Su Li, but then he glanced down at the ’thing’ on his leg, and his expression turned to one of pure speechlessness.

’In all his life, he had never met anyone as shameless and silly as Little Tongtong!’

Seeing the pair, Su Li couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

"Little Tongtong," Su Li greeted.

Little Tongtong’s eyes lit up when she saw Su Li. "Aunt Su, you’re here!"

The moment she saw Su Li, she abandoned Little Tang Mo and ran over to hug her leg. "Aunt Su, I want to come to your house for dinner!"

"My little brother is sick, so my mom took him to the hospital. She told me to find you."

Su Li nodded. "Of course. Let’s go."

Little Tongtong nodded. "I was afraid Tang Mo would run off and leave me behind, so I held on tight. Good thing I kept a close eye on him."

Little Tang Mo took Su Li’s other hand. "I wasn’t going to run away."

Little Tongtong pouted. "You did last time."

Su Li listened to them bicker without interrupting.

Outside of his home, Little Tang Mo rarely spoke to anyone, but Little Tongtong was the exception.

Even though Little Tongtong sometimes got on Little Tang Mo’s nerves, Su Li thought it was great for him to have a friend like her.

To the sound of their childish chatter, Su Li and the children headed home.

Not long after they arrived home, there was a knock on the door.

It was Wu Qihua’s voice. Su Li, now used to her visits, opened the door without any of her former hesitance.

"You’re here, Auntie."

"Mhm, just in time," Wu Qihua said, holding up a watermelon.

"Hi, Grandma Wu!" Little Tang Mo and Little Tongtong greeted her.

"Hello, you two," Wu Qihua said with a broad smile, patting Little Tang Mo’s head before pinching Little Tongtong’s chubby cheek.

"Auntie, please have a seat. I’ll start cooking," Su Li said.

"Oh, you go ahead. I’ll help you out."

Wu Qihua set the watermelon down, rolled up her sleeves, and expertly started prepping the vegetables.

Su Li didn’t say anything more.

Well, she was mostly just used to it.

Ever since returning from Wu Family Village, Wu Qihua would often come over to Su Li’s place for a free meal, popping over every ten days or so.

That’s right—a free meal.

She didn’t have any particular reason to visit; she just came whenever she craved Su Li’s cooking. She would help out a bit, eat her fill, and then head home.

She even said it herself—she was just there to mooch a meal.

Sometimes, when Su Li was in the mood to cook something special, she would call Wu Qihua and invite her over.

If Wu Qihua was free, she would come rushing over. She could get there in a flash, even on short notice.

There were times when she was already sitting down to eat at her own home, but she would still drop her chopsticks without a second thought to come over to Su Li’s. She’d even come over for a second dinner.

That’s just how decisive and impressive she was.

Now, whenever Su Li planned to cook something special, she might not think to call Wu Sheng, but she would definitely think of Wu Qihua.

Little Tang Mo also grew closer and closer to Wu Qihua.

And so, the lively dinner preparations began.

Just as the meal was almost ready, Wu Sheng arrived.

He launched into his customary complaint the moment he walked in. "You all forgot me again! If I hadn’t shown up, you would’ve just gone ahead and eaten without me."

Su Li and Wu Qihua: "..."

’Isn’t that a given?’

Wu Sheng sighed at their expressions.

’Other families worried about the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law not getting along,’ he thought. ’Not his. They weren’t even officially in-laws yet, and they were already getting along great. He was just worried they were getting along *too* well.’

After a lively dinner and some watermelon, Wu Sheng and Little Tang Mo cleaned up the kitchen. Then he and Wu Qihua headed home, and Little Tongtong was picked up as well.

Only Su Li and Little Tang Mo were left in the house.

Suddenly, the house felt empty.

"Little Mo, where are you going tomorrow?"

Tomorrow was the weekend.

"The library," Little Tang Mo replied, same as always.

Su Li wasn’t surprised. Little Tang Mo spent almost all his weekends at the library.

"Are you going, Mom?" Little Tang Mo asked.

Su Li shook her head. "I have to go to the factory tomorrow, so I won’t have time."

Little Tang Mo nodded. "Then I’ll go by myself tomorrow."

"I can take you tomorrow. I’ll drop you off before I go to the factory, and then I’ll come back to get you."

Even though Little Tang Mo was very bright, and some children his age were used to going out alone, Su Li still wasn’t comfortable letting him go out by himself.

Little Tang Mo knew his mother worried, so he just nodded. "Okay."

’Thinking about it, Su Li’s mind turned to another issue: transportation.’
