Chapter 414: Lipstick on the Shoulder

7 min read

Normally, if Su Li was being this difficult, he would have just rolled up his sleeves, scooped her up, and carried her off. But now... now...

Su Li was lying face-down on the bed, her head buried in the covers, refusing to move. He truly didn’t know how to pick her up.

"Su Li, come on. Get up and let’s go get it checked out, okay?"

Wu Sheng coaxed.

Su Li sensed Wu Sheng’s helplessness and breathed a sigh of relief.

"I’m serious, it’s fine. I didn’t break anything. You should just go."

’There was no way her blush was going to fade.’

Hearing this, Wu Sheng scratched his head and left the room.

He couldn’t stay in there a moment longer. If he did, he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to stop his nose from bleeding.

’How could he face Little Tang Mo’s innocent eyes then?’

Little Tang Mo watched Wu Sheng leave, feeling that something was a bit strange.

"Mommy, did you and Uncle have a fight?"

Little Tang Mo asked as he opened the first-aid kit.

"No," Su Li said, feeling incredibly awkward.

Little Tang Mo applied some medicine for Su Li. As he was patting her head to comfort her, he felt the bump.

It wasn’t easy to apply medicine to her scalp, but Little Tang Mo managed to part her hair and apply it carefully.

In the end, Su Li didn’t go to the hospital.

Wu Sheng didn’t dare go back into the room, afraid a nosebleed would erupt the moment he stepped inside.

He despised himself. Su Li was injured, and yet here he was, having inappropriate thoughts that he couldn’t control at all.

When Su Li finally emerged, fully dressed, Wu Sheng still found it hard to look at her.

Su Li couldn’t bring herself to look at him, either.

Even though Wu Sheng had only touched her for a second, Su Li felt as if his hand were still on her chest. She couldn’t look him in the eye at all.

In the end, it was Su Li who broke the silence by explaining how she got hurt, and only then did Wu Sheng look directly at her.

"Tang Yuanxiao’s mom again?" Wu Sheng’s eyes narrowed. "Does she ever quit?"

Since Little Tang Mo was there, Wu Sheng and Su Li didn’t discuss it further.

Afterward, it seemed like things between Wu Sheng and Su Li had returned to normal, but that wasn’t really the case.

That night, after returning home, Wu Sheng tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Even a cold shower didn’t help.

His whole body felt hot and agitated, and the image from earlier kept flashing through his mind.

Worse, he couldn’t even look at his own right hand.

Because his right hand had touched that softness... The moment he looked at it, the sensation seemed to return, followed by another wave of heat.

After tossing and turning for over an hour, Wu Sheng finally gave up and got out of bed.

He went out for a long run, then did push-ups and a series of other exercises until he was drenched in sweat and utterly exhausted. Only then, in the dead of night, did he finally fall asleep.

But even though he was asleep, he wasn’t exactly resting peacefully.

He had an embarrassing dream.

When Wu Sheng woke up, his face was a mixture of a wry smile and utter despair.

"When can I finally marry you, Su Li!"

Having a fiancée wasn’t easy. It was both painful and blissful!

Wu Sheng and Su Li both recalled the embarrassing incident at the same time, each putting on a straight face before tacitly changing the subject.

"School’s starting soon. Are you going to continue your internship?"

Wu Sheng asked Su Li.

Su Li nodded. "I am. I don’t have many classes, and from our sophomore year on, the internships are pretty much constant. We also have all sorts of practical simulations scheduled."

The official schedule isn’t out yet, but we know what the sophomore and junior years are like from the upperclassmen. The curriculum is pretty set.

Classes are in the morning, and the afternoons are basically for internships or practical simulation courses. Saturdays and Sundays are flexible—you can rest, or you can keep studying or interning.

There’s a reason Huaguo Communication College is renowned nationwide and why so many places are eager to take on its interns.

From the very beginning, the school has emphasized combining theory with practice. In addition to theoretical knowledge, it places a greater focus on practical application—the students’ ’hands-on’ skills.

They start with all kinds of practical simulations while still in school, so after graduation, they can hit the ground running. That’s why the college has such a great reputation.

Wu Sheng hadn’t known any of this before, but he had learned a fair bit because of Su Li.

"These practical simulations of yours sound a bit like our training simulations."

Su Li nodded. "Yeah, they are a little similar. My class actually talked about that last semester."

"We have small group simulations, class-wide ones, full department simulations, even collaborations between departments, and sometimes school-wide simulations."

Su Li spoke with great emotion and a sense of pride. This was precisely why she had been so set on getting into Huaguo Communication College.

"We get to try running our own newspaper, a show, a radio station, and maybe even a TV station."

Su Li’s eyes lit up. "We haven’t managed a full TV station yet, but the school is incredibly supportive of our practical simulations."

"So your model is to study, then do internships, and then come back to school for practical simulations?" Wu Sheng summarized.

"Yes, that’s more or less it," Su Li confirmed.

"That sounds good, but the actual practice must be difficult, right? I assume it’s mostly learning by imitation?" Wu Sheng always cut straight to the heart of the matter.

"Yes, for the most part, that’s how it is. We study existing newspapers or programs and imitate them. Although there is some innovation, it’s relatively rare."

Su Li had to admit that. Even though they were all top students from across the country, their age and life experience were limiting factors. They had to start with imitation.

Su Li looked up. "But it will keep improving. I believe we’ll gradually move beyond imitation and find our own styles."

Wu Sheng looked at the light in Su Li’s eyes and nodded.

"Yeah, I believe you."

’How could he not?’

Hearing his affirmation, Su Li’s lips curved into a smile. "Thanks. You’ve got good taste."

Although other people might think it’s just a simulation and nothing special, Su Li didn’t think so.

No matter the project, the students ran everything themselves. They found their own news to report, filmed and produced their own content, and did the same for the newspaper.

The newspapers and shows produced by previous upperclassmen were all preserved in the school’s collection for future students to see, and Su Li had already watched all of them.

While the traces of imitation were unavoidable and the work was still unpolished, there was no denying that it was also outstanding.

"I’m proud of my school,"

Su Li added.

Wu Sheng nodded. "I can tell. I’m proud of my unit and my comrades, too."

Su Li smiled, but just as she was about to say something, her gaze suddenly froze.

She looked at the fabric on Wu Sheng’s shoulder and reached out to touch it.

The red smear that came off on her fingers made Su Li blink.

"Lipstick?"

’There was lipstick on Wu Sheng’s shoulder?’

Wu Sheng glanced over his shoulder in confusion, then blinked, looking back at Su Li with a baffled expression.

Su Li looked at his confused, innocent expression and let out a breath.

"Where... where were you just now? Who did you see?"

’Getting lipstick on his shoulder, too. This was just asking for trouble.’

Su Li had never had to deal with the women flocking around Wu Sheng before. For a moment, she was at a loss.

Wu Sheng’s gaze flickered.

He had actually gone to see Tang Yuanxiao and had a talk with him.

’And then... and then... right, he’d run into that Bai Xinyue.’
