Chapter 86: TA| God Of Trials

6 min read

The notifications of Luke’s achievements spread to every student fighting in the trials. All tokens made a noise at the same time, and wherever the students were, they stopped what they were doing to read it.

Two hundred thousand points in one day?

Last year’s winner had finished the Trials with 550,000 points.

Now, Luke had gotten over a third of that on the very first day. So, this meant he could relax for the rest of the week and still finish in the top 10.

This was why multipliers were important. Without a party, Luke would’ve only earned two thousand points.

Many students found themselves in that situation. They could kill as many monsters as they could, but their scores would only crawl.

"Where the hell is he? What zone gives that many points?"

"I thought Day One already ended, so why is he still earning points?"

"He must still be inside a zone. A very dangerous one. Lucky bastard!"

Meanwhile, Luke couldn’t have cared less about the attention.

As far as he was concerned, titles like Emperor of Trials and God of Trials didn’t do him any favors. Winning the Hunter Trial itself was what mattered.

The academy always rewarded the champion with valuable resources, and those rewards could make a big difference to a summoner.

"I shouldn’t slow down now just because I’m at the top! The hare can pass the tortoise again!"

With that mindset, nothing was going to stop Luke and his beast armor from succeeding. Not even a Sigma-ranked dungeon capable of causing a city-level catastrophe.

If he and Scarlett failed to clear this place, the monsters trapped inside would later pour into the real world, leaving Skeleton Town in more ruin than it already was.

BOOOM!

An explosion echoed through every hall.

Luke’s fist, armored with the Hell Ape Gauntlet, punched the floor, releasing cracks of magma like baby snakes.

Just like that, four or five Bone Mages evaporated, while the remaining ones, in the midst of casting, were blown away by the blast. Their half-cast skills were interrupted, and they also suffered from the aftershock of the explosion.

More attacks bloomed from Luke because the Aspect of Conquest ensured that, so long as he used his gauntlet, it grew stronger with every punch.

After about twenty hits, he gained Gravehand again. This let him immobilize the monsters while he employed another skill, Red Basin, followed by Napalm Sphere.

A flaming orb about eight meters in diameter condensed in the air and crashed down on the monsters that had yet to rise.

The damage wasn’t the most effective because the Hell Ape Gauntlet prioritized physical attacks. So, while it could also cast spells, they weren’t as effective as its primary skills.

The monsters had made Luke understand this. The sphere crashed down on the monsters that had yet to rise, but it hadn’t slain them.

Throwing his spear did the job.

If this had been a Beta manifestation, he wouldn’t have had to, which showed just how dangerous the enemies they were facing were.

Scarlett also experienced another level up, advancing to lv. 21.

But at this moment, she wasn’t even paying attention to herself. She was focused on Luke.

Leveling up might be significant to the average summoner, but for someone like Scarlett, a wealthy heiress, advancing in levels could be easily achieved if she so desired.

But your level didn’t matter, so she thought. What mattered was your summon. You can’t be lv. 150 with a Primal beast at best and expect to defeat her with a Mythic summon, right?

Or even Luke, given he was below lv. 30.

Scarlett watched him decimate lower-tier Sigma monsters, barely leaving anything for her to slay.

She compared him to so many great hunters she knew, but none was anything like what she was seeing with her eyes.

In the sanctuary, Luke dispatched the next wave of monsters and the wave after that, comprising skeletons, zombies, and anything alike.

The monsters didn’t stand a chance because once they entered the battlefield, they got pinned to the ground because of the immense gravity field Luke’s Seven-Tusk Sabaon emitted. Luke also used Gravity Barrier to envelop himself in a shield.

Of course, his chestplate wouldn’t let him take a hit, but that was against enemies.

Dying from falling concrete wasn’t on his bucket list.

Gravity Barrier bends or disintegrates anything that comes near him.

Eerie blue flames were continuously unleashed by the magus monsters, but often before their nether flames could cover half the distance, Luke had already moved elsewhere.

His speed was so remarkable that he left trails of blue light every time he swooshed, rendering any attack on him useless. The monsters couldn’t touch him; neither could they see what was slaying them.

Scarlett wondered how he was that fast.

"Which armor is responsible now for his speed?" She asked herself, mouth agape as Luke’s afterimages framed the sanctuary. "Is it the foot or the chestplate?"

The Bluespine Centaur Chestplate gave itself away with its cyan spine, while Scarlett had seen Luke rise with the Seven-Tusk Elephant Sabatons when he defeated Ryan Razael.

But the answer to her question was both.

With the sabatons controlling gravity, Luke could glide as fast as a bird, working together with the chestplate that let him blitz from one place to another.

But after instilling his chestplate with the Aspect of Conquest, its systems changed.

Before, Luke could only use Blitz Charge after receiving strikes. These strikes were needed to generate the energy to blitz or use Energy Cannon.

But now, he had no hit guarantee–at least against creatures lesser than the Bluespine Centaurs.

So if he couldn’t get hit, how did he generate energy to move fast?

Scarlett gripped her sword and thrust it through a zombie ogre running at her.

The flame of her fire crawled up and pyred the creature. She pulled out the sword and sliced it through the air beside her. It beheaded the next monster. And the next monster after that was a similar thrust as the first.

She looked at Luke again, narrowing her eyes.

Many monsters looked sluggish before even getting to him. It could be the gravity field around, but it was more than that.

It was Lifesteal.

Rather than absorbing damage, the Bluespine Centaur Chestplate drained the essence of any monster nearby.

So, the more monsters around, the more Luke could use the abilities of the chestplate without needing to take any damage.
