I overthink the afterword every time. I keep trying to write something funny or witty, but it all comes out sloppy and rambly instead (looking back, the first volume’s afterword was really dire). I’ve decided to do it properly this time.
This volume marks the end of the Bean Counter series.
Admittedly, there are still some loose ends. A part of me wanted to write side stories showing a glimpse of Sigma and the Holy Maiden’s perspectives (the biggest go-getters in the story), but this tale is ultimately about Seiichirou and Aresh.
I started writing this story on a whim, and I certainly would not have made it this far without all my wonderful readers. It is entirely thanks to you that I was able to write three volumes about a frail white-collar worker with no powers to speak of and the knight who helps him.
Given the initial lack of romantic development between the two characters (although they do get physical, I suppose), you wouldn’t think they had it in them to involve a whole bunch of people in a lovers’ quarrel, eventually culminating in XXX (censored in case anyone reads the afterword before the story).
As I mentioned before, this story was supported by its readers. I would not have been able to come this far alone. I am really, truly grateful for all you have given me.
My health has not been the best lately, so I caused a lot of trouble for others when working on this volume, my editor particularly.
I must thank Kikka Ohashi, who made time in their busy schedule to draw the insert illustrations. I loved their take on Luciano’s pretty boy appearance. And the cover…phew. I invite you all to remove the wraparound jacket after you finish reading the story. I am so grateful that even my tiniest wishes have been granted.
I’m stoked about the manga’s positive reception as well. Kazuki Irodori brings such beautiful art and keen attention to detail to every chapter. I’m in awe. The manga is ongoing, so I really encourage you to pick it up. It even got an ad the other day, so now Seiichirou and Aresh have voices! The video is super well done—I hope you check it out.
Finally, I extend my deepest thanks to everyone involved in the publishing of this novel. Their hard work is the reason why this book is on shelves.
