Chapter 2040: Reluctant to Return (7)

7 min read

Jiang Jing was in a very bad mood and didn’t go to the late-night snack with Lu Xinyi and the others, walking alone back to the dormitory.

She couldn’t figure it out, if she didn’t steal the money, where did Chuzheng get the hundred thousand yuan?

There must be a problem!

"Mmm..."

Jiang Jing’s vision went dark as she was forcefully dragged to the side, fear made her want to call out for help.

Unfortunately, only a light whimper escaped her throat.

The sound in her ears grew more distant, and everything around her gradually quieted down. Jiang Jing had no idea where she was being dragged to.

This is a school, why is something like this happening to me?

I don’t want to die!

Jiang Jing felt herself thrown to the ground, blindfolded, unable to see anything.

The person holding her captive made no sound; Jiang Jing smelled the scent of decaying leaves, was this the school’s forest?

Why not speak?

Who is this holding me?

Is it a criminal?

A myriad of thoughts flashed through Jiang Jing’s mind; she even imagined herself making headlines once discovered tomorrow.

No...

I don’t want to die.

-

Chuzheng pushed open the dormitory door; Lu Xinyi and Ye Mengyue fell silent simultaneously.

The atmosphere in the dormitory was strange.

Chuzheng behaved as if she noticed nothing and went about her own business.

After a while, Lu Xinyi and Ye Mengyue exchanged glances and sat aside, whispering to each other.

As lights out time approached, Jiang Jing had yet to return.

Ye Mengyue: "Why isn’t Xiao Jing back yet?" Earlier, Jiang Jing didn’t come with them, saying she wanted to return to the dorm first.

But they had all returned, and Jiang Jing was still nowhere to be seen.

Lu Xinyi took out her phone: "I’ll give her a call."

No one answered the call, making the two somewhat anxious, what if something happened to Jiang Jing?

Just as they were preparing to search for her, Jiang Jing returned.

She was a complete mess, looking like she’d been roughed up.

"Xiao Jing!" Lu Xinyi rushed over in surprise, supporting her: "What happened to you? How did you end up like this?"

Jiang Jing weakly said, "Give me some water to drink."

Ye Mengyue hurriedly poured water for Jiang Jing to drink.

"Xiao Jing, what happened? Who did this to you?"

Jiang Jing took a few breaths: "I don’t know... didn’t see anyone."

Thinking back now, Jiang Jing was still a bit scared.

Fortunately, the other person just beat her up without causing much more harm.

Jiang Jing had no idea who she offended...

Suddenly, Jiang Jing thought of something and looked up at Chuzheng’s bed.

Chuzheng was reclining on her bed reading a chemistry book, her demeanor leisurely and casual.

"Hang Chuzheng, it was you!" Jiang Jing abruptly stood up, but the next second, with a hiss, she fell back down, clutching her lower back, her face contorted with pain.

"Me?" Chuzheng put down the chemistry book: "What about me?"

"It was you, wasn’t it!" Jiang Jing gritted her teeth: "You beat me!"

Recently, she hadn’t offended anyone.

The only one with motive was Chuzheng.

"No, it wasn’t me." Don’t talk nonsense!

Jiang Jing pointed a finger at her: "Who else could it be besides you?"

Chuzheng replied calmly: "Classmate, didn’t the teacher just teach you, act based on evidence." If there’s no evidence, you’re just playing the rogue with me!

"Isn’t this evidence?" Jiang Jing pointed to her own injuries.

"This only proves you’re injured, what does that have to do with me?" Chuzheng pressed her fingers on the chemistry book, her tone even calmer: "Didn’t the teacher teach you what evidence is?"

Jiang Jing: "..."

At the time, Jiang Jing’s face was covered; she couldn’t see clearly nor did she hear any sound.

It had to be her!

Jiang Jing was utterly convinced.

Gritting her teeth, Jiang Jing said, "You’ll see!"

Jiang Jing went to the teacher to complain, asking the teacher to find out who beat her.

A student getting beaten wasn’t a small matter.

They immediately went to the security office to check the surveillance of the place Jiang Jing mentioned; however, the surveillance only showed Jiang Jing walking alone.

There was a blind spot between two surveillance cameras, and when Jiang Jing appeared again, she was already in her current state.

Jiang Jing couldn’t find out who beat her.

However, the fact that Jiang Jing was beaten was undeniable, indicating there was indeed someone.

Jiang Jing was angry to the point of collapse.

The teacher took Jiang Jing to get her injuries treated; they looked severe but were actually just superficial wounds, painful but would heal quickly.

The teacher told Jiang Jing to go back for now; they would get to the bottom of it.

But Jiang Jing insisted.

She directly accused Chuzheng as the perpetrator.

Chuzheng’s alibi was solid, with someone to vouch for her, making Jiang Jing’s accusations baseless.

Originally, Jiang Jing’s previous accusation against Chuzheng for theft already left a bad impression on some teachers, and now this...

-

Without locating the attacker and with Chuzheng having an alibi, the matter eventually went unresolved.

Back in the dorm, Jiang Jing glared at Chuzheng with a fierce look: "I know it was you."

Chuzheng suddenly approached Jiang Jing, in a voice only the two of them could hear, "So what." What can you do about it!

Jiang Jing’s pupils widened in shock.

"I knew it was you..." Jiang Jing raised her hand, ready to strike Chuzheng.

Chuzheng moved faster, grabbing Jiang Jing’s wrist and twisting it down, slamming her into the dorm wall.

Ye Mengyue and Lu Xinyi were startled: "What are you doing!"

Jiang Jing’s back hit the wall, making her gasp in pain.

"Hang Chuzheng..."

Chuzheng leaned close to Jiang Jing’s ear, exuding a fierce aura: "Mess with me again, and I can’t guarantee what I’ll do next time."

Jiang Jing glanced sideways, meeting Chuzheng’s eyes.

Those eyes held emotions she didn’t recognize at all.

Looking into them felt like watching glaciers collapse and snowy mountains crumble, threatening to bury her.

A chill ran from the soles of her feet to the top of her head, and cold sweat formed on her back.

Since when did just a glance become so terrifying...

It was terrifying.

Jiang Jing felt like a demon was eyeing her, ready to tear her apart with no remains.

Chuzheng released her, making Jiang Jing’s body go limp, sliding down against the wall.

Her eyes were a mix of anger and fear, fixed on Chuzheng.

Chuzheng clapped her hands, walking away with a cold expression.

It all happened in a matter of seconds, with Lu Xinyi and Ye Mengyue lifting Jiang Jing up.

Jiang Jing became quiet afterward, no longer speaking.

-

Teacher Lin’s lost money was found, it turned out he misplaced it himself, and the school clarified the matter.

As to how the money was found, perhaps only Chuzheng knew.

She’d exhausted herself arguing with that bastard to figure out what Teacher Lin used to store it.

It was too difficult for her.

Although this result was unexpected by the students, it was a decent outcome.

Since Chuzheng threatened Jiang Jing in the dorm, Jiang Jing behaved much more quietly, avoiding Chuzheng whenever possible.

Seeing Jiang Jing act this way, Lu Xinyi and Ye Mengyue also steered clear of Chuzheng.

"Xiao Jing, do you really think the person who hit you was Hang Chuzheng?"

With Chuzheng not in the dorm, Jiang Jing replied with certainty: "It was definitely her."

"But she has an alibi." Ye Mengyue asked, "Could you be mistaken?"

"..."

How could she be mistaken, Chuzheng even admitted it.
