Yao’s nerves tensed. He looked up and saw little Meimei almost approaching. He was about to turn around to remind Dan Tingye, but Meimei noticed him first.
"Mr. Yao, I want to see Tingye. Is that okay?"
"..."
Yao’s body stiffened, as if he was instantly encased in plaster. Now he was stuck, unable to advance or retreat.
He could only turn around, afraid that Dan Tingye in the living room wouldn’t hear, and replied in a voice twice as loud as usual.
"Miss Meimei, good morning."
"Hello, Mr. Yao. Has Tingye woken up? I want to see him. Why does the guard keep saying he’s resting? Was he punished by uncle?"
"..."
Such a direct question, how was he supposed to answer?
Young master, did you hear that? Give me a hint, this person is at the door now. Are you going to see her or not? If not, when I send her away, don’t feel sorry later and take it out on me.
Yao anxiously waited for a while without hearing Dan Tingye’s voice. Thinking he had decided not to see little Meimei, Yao was about to speak and ask someone to send her back when a magnetic voice came through.
"Let her in."
"Tingye..."
Little Meimei froze, and her disappointed little face instantly became joyful. Without waiting for Yao to speak, she skipped past him and ran inside, seeing Dan Tingye sitting properly on the living room sofa, and finally breathed a long sigh of relief.
"Didn’t I tell you to go back and keep Grandfather company? Why don’t you listen?" Dan Tingye leaned obliquely on the sofa, his legs naturally hanging down. Aside from being a bit pale, his handsome face was flawless.
His hand hidden behind him slightly clenched, trying to support his body with his arm to make his sitting posture look normal.
He glanced at Meimei, who looked worse than him, and frowned in displeasure.
"I was worried about you. You said you would come to see us, but I waited until very late. You didn’t come. I was worried, so I sneaked out when no one was watching."
Meimei walked to the sofa, saw his unsightly complexion, and like a child who had done something wrong, lowered her head and bit her lip.
Yet her stubborn expression showed no sign of admitting any fault.
She’s getting bolder.
"Just because I didn’t come to find you, you stood outside the villa all night?" Dan Tingye’s voice turned cold.
Even though he warned himself that her temperament is gentle and not to scare her, his tone still inadvertently intensified.
Meimei didn’t look scared at all, instead raised her head and looked at him earnestly.
"I’m worried Uncle would punish you."
"..."
She stood outside the villa all night just to make sure he wasn’t being punished?
Seeing her worried expression for him, he suddenly felt that being punished to kneel all night was not a bad thing.
But looking at her pale little face and the dew-stained tips of her hair, imagining her standing alone at the villa entrance waiting eagerly for him, he couldn’t help but feel heartache.
"Why are you still standing? Didn’t you stand enough last night?" Dan Tingye restrained his heartache, pretending to speak casually.
If he could stand, he would have pulled her into his arms long ago, telling her never to be so foolish again. If she wants to see him, just break in like now. No one would dare touch her at a private villa.
But he couldn’t. He knelt all night, with no time to recover before she arrived. It was difficult for him to move even slightly now; any careless movement would be discovered by her...
"Tingye, why does your foot look weird?"
