Fu Mingyu said, "You can. You play it by calculating the angles."
He then explained to Yun Xiaowu and the others how he did his calculations.
His explanation made their heads spin.
"Stop! Just stop talking."
Fu Mingyu’s expression didn’t change, but his eyes held a look of confusion. "It’s very simple."
He was just like an advanced intelligent robot.
Yun Xiaowu said, "Simple my ass! That method of yours won’t work for me. I’ll just rely on my own experience!"
After playing for a while, Fu Mingyu found it too easy and didn’t want to play anymore.
So Yun Jiao took him to play with the puppies.
"In just a few more days, I’ll be able to take a puppy home!"
The three little puppies had all opened their eyes. Perhaps because they were well-fed, they had all grown plump and chubby.
They yelped when you picked them up, and they felt amazing to hold.
"Granny Liu, are you giving away all three of your puppies?"
She still hadn’t decided which one to choose.
All three puppies seemed so well-behaved.
"That’s right."
Granny Liu came over. "Right now, only your family has claimed one. The other two don’t have homes yet."
Her family couldn’t afford to raise too many dogs.
This made Yun Jiao even more conflicted. She gently pinched the three little ones’ soft, floppy ears.
"Which one do you think I should get?"
Fu Mingyu said, "The white one."
He said, "The white one’s fur is fluffier and a little curly. It’s cute."
’A perfect match for you.’
Yun Jiao said, "I think it’s the cutest one, too."
Fu Mingyu held the black puppy. The little black puppy looked more like its father—tiny but a little fierce, with the loudest bark of the three.
"Can I have one?"
He said to Granny Liu.
After a moment’s thought, Fu Mingyu took a one-yuan bill out of his overalls pocket.
"I’ll buy it."
This wasn’t money Yun Jiao had given him; it was his own.
Granny Liu was surprised. "No money, no money! As long as you promise to take good care of this little puppy, that’s all that matters."
Fu Mingyu insisted on giving her the money and promised earnestly, "I will take good care of it."
Yun Jiao said happily, "You’re getting a puppy too!"
Fu Mingyu nodded. "Mhm."
The puppies would stay with Granny Liu for the time being. It was time for them to head home.
When they got home, Yun Jiao noticed a four-wheeled car parked not far from their front door.
In this day and age, even two-wheeled bicycles were extremely popular, let alone a four-wheeled car.
A crowd of people had gathered around the car, but no one dared to step forward and touch it.
Because a man in a military uniform was standing guard next to the car.
"He’s a soldier."
"He looks so sharp."
"What a fine-looking young man. Do you have a girlfriend yet?"
These village elders were sometimes real social butterflies, wanting to play matchmaker for any sharp-looking young man or woman they saw.
The young soldier’s ears turned red from their questions, but he remained firmly at his post. He said little, and for the most part, didn’t answer the aunties’ questions.
"That car is beautiful."
Yun Jiao took a few extra glances at the car.
This was the second car she had ever seen. The first one belonged to Uncle Wang’s family, but it wasn’t as cool or as nice as this one.
Fu Mingyu only needed one look to know whose car it was.
"My grandfather is here."
"Oh," Yun Jiao said. "He’s here to pick you up."
She thought to herself, ’If they can afford a car this big, they’re definitely not short on money. I can rest easy about the canned goods, then.’
The two children walked into the house, and instantly, everyone inside looked over.
Yun Jiao wasn’t afraid and calmly let them stare.
Inside were two strangers. One was an elderly man. Although his hair was white, his world-weary eyes were bright. With a stern expression, he sat ramrod straight on one of the family’s stools.
"Grandfather."
Fu Mingyu walked over and greeted him coolly.
The old man nodded.
Yun Jiao thought, ’This grandfather and grandson don’t seem very familiar with each other.’
What Yun Jiao didn’t know was that they really weren’t familiar with each other.
Fu Mingyu had always been raised by his father. Before Fu Mingyu was even born, Mr. Fu had been "sent down" to another region for certain reasons. Even after returning, he was swamped with work, and his relationship with his own son was not good.
His contact with Fu Mingyu was limited to simple phone calls, and the number of times they had met could be counted on one hand.
If he hadn’t been abducted by traffickers this time, and if Fu Mingyu hadn’t specifically requested to see him, their distant relationship would likely have continued indefinitely.
Before his arrival, Mr. Fu had already had people look into what had happened to Fu Mingyu.
His tone was a bit stiff as he said, "You’ll live with me from now on. Don’t worry about your father’s side of things."
Fu Mingyu wasn’t surprised at all.
"Okay."
After that simple exchange, the grandfather and grandson seemed to have nothing more to say.
The Yun family watched, scratching their heads. It was... awkward. They didn’t know what to say, either. The old man looked so stern.
Yun Jiao asked, "Grandpa Fu, are you leaving today?"
Mr. Fu looked at the little girl before him. "You must be the little girl who saved Mingyu."
As he spoke to a pretty little girl as soft and sweet-looking as Yun Jiao, Mr. Fu’s expression and tone softened considerably.
"Yes, I was the one who saved him."
She admitted it frankly.
Mr. Fu patted her head, the movement a little unpracticed.
"Thank you."
The Fu grandfather and grandson prepared to leave.
Fu Mingyu said, "Grandfather, I want to come back again."
Mr. Fu didn’t ask why, simply giving a specific time. "Come tomorrow. We have to leave this place the day after tomorrow."
Fu Mingyu nodded.
After seeing the grandfather and grandson off, the Yun family all breathed a sigh of relief.
Mr. Fu’s presence was just too intimidating. Sitting there was awkward, and they couldn’t think of anything to talk about.
"Old Man Mu, who was that? A relative of yours?"
"Since when did your family have such a powerful relative?"
"He brought two soldiers with him, too! He must be some kind of leader, right? How do you know them?"
The moment the man and his car were gone, the village’s most curious residents gathered around, all asking questions at once.
Granny Yun said, "We don’t know who they are either. Their boy was just playing around here when Jiaojiao and Little Nine happened to meet him, and they became friends. So we brought him home for a meal, and now his grandfather has come to pick him up."
Grandpa Yun said, "We’re not related. We don’t know them."
"You guys are really lucky, just bumping into a kid whose family has a car like that."
"That old man must be some kind of leader."
"What’s that kid’s name? Is he coming back to our village to play? My boy can take him around, too."
Their intentions couldn’t have been more obvious.
Grandpa Yun and the others quickly sent them on their way.
Back inside, the family was still marveling at the events.
"So Fu Mingyu’s family is that rich, huh? They own a car."
Yun Xiaojiu said, "He’s sick. He’s staying in the military hospital on the island."
"Jiaojiao, is Fu Mingyu coming to play with us again? Do you think he can come in that car next time? I wish I could see what the inside of a car looks like."
