And then the cat was finally out of the bag. The words hung in the middle of the game room like thick smoke, the fast, wild heat from earlier completely vanishing into a cold, heavy silence.
Princess didn’t ask a single question. Her girlfriend told her the entire story, like a confession. There was no need for an interrogation.
Both girls sat face to face...
Both were silent. The quiet inside the house was absolute, broken only by the fast, frantic thumping of Faye’s heart against her ribs as she waited for the bomb to drop.
"Princess... are you alright?" Faye finally broke the silence. She leaned forward slightly, her hands gripping her knees tightly as her breathing turned small and shallow under the pressure.
Princess, who had been completely shut down for some time, finally came back to herself. She sat up gently, crossed her legs, rested her chin on her hand, and stared at her girlfriend. Her movement was incredibly slow, her eyes completely empty of expression as she focused on the omega.
"Yeah, I am... so what were you saying?" Princess asked, looking at her girlfriend. Her voice was flat, totally devoid of any emotion, which made it ten times scarier.
"I just said it all..." Faye muttered, her voice catching in her throat.
"Oh... so that’s it? Everything?"
"Yes, everything... from the beginning to where we are now," Faye said. She swallowed hard, her chest rising with a shaky, defensive breath.
"So... let me summarize what you just told me... You and your friend, MG, found mystical sea creatures and sold them online to an unknown client. For every creature he bought, he paid a million." Princess stated, her tone steady as she mapped out the madness.
"Yes," Faye replied.
"And your group found four creatures last year and got four million, which you all shared among yourselves and used to open the gym."
"Yes... that’s right." Faye said, her fingers twisting together in her lap as the words sounded incredibly reckless out loud.
Princess let out a short laugh, but there was no amusement behind it. It was a sharp, bitter sound that cut right through the air, her broad chest shaking once before locking up again.
"Let’s just skip the part where you were pregnant while doing all that, risking your life and our pups." Princess said, her eyes narrowing just a fraction of an inch.
"It wasn’t dangerous. It was just a trade..." Faye tried to argue, her breathing turning fast as she tried to defend her choices.
"I’m still talking, Faye. Let me finish." Princess remained calm, but her tone carried authority.
Faye fell silent because she could see it.
Her girlfriend was trying very hard not to react. Princess’s knuckles were pale against her chin, her broad shoulders completely rigid as she fought to keep her control.
"Not dangerous? Meeting some black car in the dark while carrying Alpha pups isn’t dangerous, huh?" Princess scoffed bitterly. Her lungs expanded with a sharp, angry breath, her lips curling back in disgust.
"Let’s just skip all that. That’s in the past... Nothing happened to you... let’s come to the present."
She took a deep breath. Her chest rose to its absolute limit, holding the air for a long, agonizing second before letting it out slowly through her nose.
"So right now, you just told me to my face that you made a blood oath with a fucking Lycan... Bitch, do you fucking know what a Lycan is?" Princess snarled, her voice dropping into a terrifyingly low register.
"I know, okay... I know what a Lycan is. But as long as we complete the deal..." Faye rushed out, her eyes wide with panic as her heart hammered violently.
"Just shut uppp."
Princess’s voice remained controlled. It was a flat, icy wall that stopped Faye mid-sentence.
"Earlier this year, you got yourself kidnapped by a lunatic wolf and a witch, putting your life and our pups’ lives in danger. Why did that happen? Because you fucking donated your blood that witch and trusted the wrong person, calling them friend... Now you’ve done the same thing with a Lycan, trusting your blood to a Lycan in exchange for wealth.." Princess said, her words hitting like physical blows.
Princess was trying so hard not to raise her voice.
She was boiling inside, trying not to let the steam out.
She stood up from her chair and paced around the room like a restless hound.
"Faye... you know you’re a mother, right?" Princess snapped, stopping her stride to glare down at the couch.
"Yes, I know, but..."
"Then why would you give your blood to some Royal Lycan? Your blood should belong only to you, not be shared. Your blood isn’t connected to just you... it’s connected to our pups too. What were you thinking, Faye?" Princess roared quietly, her chest heaving with absolute fury.
"My best friend was in danger... and that bought him his freedom." Faye cried out, her eyes stinging as she looked up at the towering alpha.
"Are you two stupid? He escaped one cage just to enter another. And you... you followed him like a blind fool." Princess said, her voice dripping with pure disbelief.
Princess stopped pacing. She stood dead center in the room, her frame casting a long, dark shadow across Faye’s lap.
"Lycans are not Alphas. They are extremely ruthless. They have no sense of humanity. The only thing they care about is their own kind."
She resumed pacing. Her heels clicked rapidly against the floor again, the fast, chaotic movement showing exactly how much rage she was trying to hold back.
"You said you wanted to be independent, and this is the road you chose.... Kiara was right about you... you’re attracted to danger."
She looked directly into Faye’s eyes.
"Even you are a danger yourself."
Faye couldn’t say anything. Her breath left her completely, her throat locking tight as the words sliced through her.
Her girlfriend had just learned that she had made a contract with a Lycan Prince without thinking it through.
Knowing that their entire family might now be in danger because of what she had done, all for the sake of earning money...
Faye finally realized what she might have done.
It wasn’t just her life at risk.
Her pups’ lives might also be in danger because she hadn’t thought about them. A sudden, terrifying wave of guilt washed over her, making her eyes fill with tears as her breathing turned ragged.
"I’m sorry... I didn’t think about them while doing all that." Faye whispered, her voice cracking completely as she slumped back against the couch.
Princess closed her eyes. She stood completely still, her head tilting back as she let out a long, ragged breath through her teeth.
"You are not acting like a mother, Faye... because every parent’s first instinct is their children’s safety." Princess said, her tone dead and empty.
She paused before saying the words that cut the deepest.
"And right now... you don’t deserve to be one."
Princess grabbed her keys from the gaming desk and headed for the door.
"Where are you going?" Faye gasped, scrambling to her feet as her breath came in frantic pants.
"I’m going to pick up my babies..." Princess said, her hand locking onto the brass doorknob.
She opened the door.
"Alone."
Faye could only watch as Princess walked away. The front door clicked shut with a heavy, solid thud, leaving the Omega standing completely frozen in the room, her chest heaving as the silence swallowed her whole.
