After the play, they happened to be in a nearby café, having dinner together.
Tisha was still talking about the play. She looked like someone who was really interested in it and a true believer of the Hungry Fool.
Princess was beside Faye, not even listening to whatever Tisha was saying. She sat entirely rigid in her chair, her broad shoulders tense as her gaze locked onto the side of her girl’s face.
Some people were busy making noises with their forks and plates while eating.
"How long are you going to take to finish that?" Princess said. Her voice was flat, her lungs expanding with a slow, heavy breath that told Faye her patience was running out.
Faye had been eating really slowly to stall for time because after dinner they were heading home.
The thought of that upcoming conversation was pressing down on her ribs like a giant rock, making her heart pump in a tight, nervous rhythm.
So she kept picking very little of her food and chewing slowly. She cut a single piece of chicken into tiny, microscopic bits, lifting her fork with absolute hesitation.
"They say eating fast makes one get fat... so eating like this, it will be easier to digest and I won’t get fat," Faye said. She forced a casual shrug, her eyes blinking rapidly as she looked down at her plate.
"Since when do you care about your body weight?" Princess asked. She narrowed her eyes, her posture shifting as she leaned an inch closer to the table line.
"Come on, I do exercise all the time... and I have to keep my figure. Just let me eat in peace, will you?" Faye said. She let out a small, huffed breath through her nose, trying to sound annoyed instead of completely terrified.
Princess gave up, brought out her phone, and sent a text.
After some time...
Beam stood up from her chair and told Tisha she would be right back.
It also happened that Jessie wasn’t at the table. She had gone to the restroom several minutes ago, leaving an empty chair at the far end of the row.
"Sometimes I feel like the story isn’t complete. The Hungry Fool is not just a myth but an actual event, yet no one has heard of or seen the Lava Village," Tisha said. She let out a soft sigh, her fork resting against the edge of her plate as she looked around the table for some agreement.
"Maybe it’s just a myth... there is no such thing as a Black Moon, and the story doesn’t add up. The Moon Goddess would never abandon her people," Faye said. She welcomed the distraction, her voice rushing out quickly as she tried to keep the focus away from her plate.
"Don’t be so sure about your beliefs... the Moon Goddess might be the one who doesn’t exist," Kiara said. She had been quiet for some time and had been making unnecessary noise with her cutlery.
"The Moon Goddess does exist... it’s no myth." Faye snapped back...
"Whatever... you only believe what you’ve been told anyway," Kiara muttered. She stood up from the table and tapped Bambi on the shoulder. Bambi stood up and followed her without a single word.
"Does this mean you’re leaving?" Princess asked. She didn’t even look up from the table, her tone cold and dry.
"Good night, Princess," Kiara said lazily. She turned her back and walked toward the exit..
"Faye, let’s go home... we have something to do before picking up our pups," Princess said. She turned her full attention back to her girlfriend, the heavy alpha pressure settling right over the girl’s shoulders.
"Hold on, I need to finish this food. It’s delicious, and my brother taught me not to waste food," Faye said. She quickly scooped up another tiny piece of food, her heart giving a frantic thud against her ribs.
Princess just stared at her girlfriend, remembering all the times she had to finish Faye’s leftovers. Her lips pressed into a hard, rigid line as she watched the stall tactic play out.
"Do you want me to feed you or help finish the food? Because you’re taking an eternity."
"No need for that, babe," Faye said before continuing to eat slowly.
Princess silently groaned from her side of the chair, never believing Faye would do something like this.
Then...
"Oh, Haley, I think you need to call an ambulance. Your sister just tripped and fell, and I think her joints are dislocated," Beam said calmly the moment she got back. She slid back into her seat next to Tisha, her breathing perfectly steady, her leather jacket crinkling softly as she picked up her napkin.
.....
The ambulance arrived and carried Jessie to the hospital.
Faye noticed her girlfriend smirking as she watched the ambulance leave. The small, sharp twist of Princess’s lips told her everything she needed to know, her breath catching in her throat as the realization slammed into her brain.
Immediately, she understood.
"How fucking petty are you, babe... I can’t believe you would do that," Faye said, glaring at Princess.
"She isn’t dead," Princess replied. She didn’t even blink, her voice smooth and completely unbothered as she watched the emergency vehicle drive away.
"You are despicable," Faye said.
"That is a strong word, baby... I never forget. She touched something that belonged to me. I simply reminded her not to do it again." Princess stated, her eyes flashing with a deep, dominant intensity that made Faye’s jaw lock tight.
Faye didn’t know how to react. Now she understood what Jessie meant when she had said she saved her from an Alpha.
This Alpha of hers is bonkers..
Guess she wasn’t saved after all.
"Fine, let’s go home and get this over with... just so you know, you are very possessive," Faye said as she walked to the car.
Princess scoffed. She followed right behind her...
"Look who’s talking. You literally told me to stay like six feet away from girls and rubbed yourself all over me just to mark your territory. I even drew on my skin, saying I belong to you," Princess said as she followed Faye. Her voice was low and mocking, her chest rising with an amused breath.
"Okay, how does this sound? If I send my Beta to go break your ex’s legs because you happened to be fucking her when you knocked me up?" Faye said, slamming the car door.
Princess slid into the driver’s seat, shutting her own door with a firm click before pushing the start button.
"We were dating, and I had no choice but to perform my duties as her girlfriend." Princess argued back, her hands gripping the steering wheel as the engine roared to life.
"And I was single, which also means I had the absolute right to fuck whoever I wanted." Faye yelled, her posture stiff as she glared out the side window.
"No, no, no... you’re wrong. You had no right to do any of that. Even if we brake up, you still have no right to do anything." Princess snapped, her face turning serious as she shoved the car into gear, her eyes darting toward her girlfriend.
"Can you just fucking shut up and drive?" Faye muttered, crossing her arms tightly over her chest as the sports car flew out of the parking lot and into the night.
