Chapter 16

“Amazing! I turn the wheel, and the car goes the same way…!” Haruka exclaimed excitedly as she drove around the zombies that had been drawn to the sound of the engine. “This is so much fun! It’s just like a game!”

“You almost seem too good at this. Is it really your first time driving?”

“It’s surprisingly easy. You can try it later, too,” Haruka said happily as she made her way through the backstreets and out onto the main road.

The area was in a dreadful state. Burned-out, crashed cars littered the road as far as the eye could see, and zombies roamed everywhere in between. They came at us all at once, so we drove in the opposite lane, ignoring the road rules. But in a lot of places, multicar collisions had blocked traffic completely, in which case Haruka would drive around them, or I’d get out of the car and physically remove the obstacles.

Our entire trip continued just like that, taking a lot of effort even to move forward just a few meters…

It took a long time, but we finally made it to the girls’ high school that Haruka attended. We parked a little ways away, since the sound of a car engine would attract zombies, and walked to the dorm from there.

Restraining all the zombies we ran into along the way, we passed the grounds of Haruka’s old school. I saw a considerable number of zombies when I took a look around, and I couldn’t help but wonder whether Haruka’s friends were among them…

About a minute later, we spotted the dorm. There were no zombies inside the fence, and I could feel my heart racing with anticipation. However, the entrance gate was locked, and we needed a key to enter.

“How are we going to get inside?” Haruka asked. I took another good look at the steel fence in front of us; it was probably just over two meters tall, with no crossbars I could use as footholds. If I was solo, I would’ve been able to turn into a zombie to boost my strength and climb the fence… But I couldn’t leave Haruka alone.

“What if we brought the car here and climbed on top of it?” I suggested.

“Then we’d have to leave it where it was, and a passing zombie might use it to climb the fence the same way.”

“Yeah, you’re right. If only there was a ladder… There’s no way we’d get that lucky, though.”

“We don’t have much time. What if one of us gave the other a boost?”

“…That’s probably the quickest way. You’d climb on top of me, right?”

“Yeah. Why do you look so happy about that?” Haruka stared at me suspiciously. She seemed to have noticed me glancing at her skirt just now, but I figured I’d play innocent.

“I’m not happy about anything.”

“For your information, I’m wearing leggings underneath, so it won’t matter if you see up my skirt.”

“What?! You are?”

“Disappointed?”

“Not at all. If anything, I’m relieved.”

“Should I take off my leggings so you can peek?”

“N-no, you don’t have to do that…”

“Of course, I’m kidding. Don’t get so flustered.”

“…Just hurry up and climb on my shoulders.”

I feigned calm and squatted in front of the fence.

“…Okay, here goes.” A hint of embarrassment had crept into Haruka’s voice, and she placed a leg on my right shoulder. Next, she put her other leg on my left shoulder, and I felt her whole weight on me.

I couldn’t believe what was happening. My head was sandwiched between Haruka’s thighs, and her skirt fluttered against the back of my neck. The sight and sensation were too good to put into words, but now wasn’t the time to dwell on it.

I shook off my evil thoughts and tried to stand up, but the awkward movements made me lose balance.

“—Whoa!”

Haruka clung to my shoulders, and something soft pressed against the top of my head. It was a different type of softness from her thighs.

…Judging by her position, it must have been her boobs…

Overjoyed, I quickly got to my feet and stood against the fence.

“Think you can climb over now?”

“Yeah. I can reach the top.”

Haruka’s milky-white thighs brushed against my cheeks as she began to move upward. The moment she raised herself up, the hem of her skirt fluttered before my eyes, and something else soft touched the top of my head.

“—Ah!” Haruka let out a panicked cry and clung to the fence.

With those slender arms of hers, she was going to have a hard time pulling herself over.

“Yuuma, can you push me from below?”

“You got it.”

I grabbed the soles of her shoes, which fluttered in the air, and gave them one big push. Haruka’s upper body went over the fence; it looked like she wouldn’t have a problem making it to the other side.

Just so you know, from that angle I could see all the way up her skirt, and even with leggings, it was still an exciting sight to behold.

I couldn’t help but keep thinking…it had been her bottom that had brushed the top of my head a minute ago. While I’d been letting my mind run wild with all sorts of lewd thoughts, Haruka had managed to land safely on the other side of the fence. Now, it was my turn.

“—Stop right there!”

A shrill voice suddenly yelled out from somewhere close by, and I froze to the spot. Seconds later, a girl wearing a traditional Japanese hakama appeared from inside the building and drew her bow on me.

“I’m sorry, but to avoid any trouble, this dormitory is closed to men. The girl is allowed in, however, you are not permitted on these grounds.” The young woman had waist-length brown hair and was glaring at me; one wrong move, and I was sure she’d shoot.

For now, I raised my hands and tried negotiate with her.

“I’m not armed, and I don’t intend to harm you, either. Seeing as how we’ve both managed to survive this far, can’t we try to cooperate?”

“Unfortunately, I must decline.”

“We have the means to procure food and other necessities.”

“There will be no negotiating, as I can’t verify that you are, in fact, telling the truth.”

“Would you believe me if I brought you some food?”

“We have food stocked inside the dormitory. I cannot take any risks, seeing as I don’t know who you are or your intentions.”

The girl continued to reject my suggestions, keeping her bow drawn the whole time. She seemed incredibly wary of me, just based on the fact that I was male. I guess I couldn’t blame her, though, since the police weren’t around anymore…

Yet despite her stern tone, I could see the hesitancy in her expression; she must be feeling guilty about having to turn me away. In that case, maybe it was better to withdraw, rather than continue to press the issue and rub her the wrong way.
