The warm air enveloped her entire body, and Jiang Lai comfortably squinted her eyes, watching the scenery whizzing by outside. Shi Yubai was driving personally, his hands holding the steering wheel were slender and attractive, and the quartz watch on his thin wrist glimmered faintly.

"Didn’t you usually accompany Mr. Huang abroad for New Year? Why didn’t you go this year?"

"Mr. Huang went back to accompany his old comrades this time. If I went, I wouldn’t get much of a chance to talk, so I thought I’d stay and keep you company."

"Thanks, but I really don’t need anyone to accompany me."

Jiang Lai planned to go back, lie down, order a cup of milk tea and some spicy crayfish. It was too cold, she wanted it extra spicy.

Shi Yubai replied casually.

"Spending New Year alone can be quite lonely. Coincidentally, I’m alone too. Didn’t Mr. Huang say we should take care of each other? I’m thinking of ordering two drinks and getting some barbecue skewers and spicy crayfish. How about it? Care to join me?"

Jiang Lai couldn’t help but laugh.

"You eat barbecue skewers and spicy crayfish?"

"Usually, I eat clean for fitness, but with the holidays coming up, indulging for a few days doesn’t matter."

The car sped along, unlike the area where she lived. This was the city center, the youngest part of the city. With New Year’s Eve approaching, the amusement park next to the central square was already lit with colorful lights. A clown was making balloons for kids at the entrance, couples were kissing and taking photos under the lights, and groups of friends were playing and laughing.

Jiang Lai watched out the window, her calm expression tinged with an inexplicable hint of melancholy.

"Do you want to go in and play?"

"There’s no good place to park around here."

Everyone had taken cabs. The nearest parking was at a nearby mall, and it was a ten-minute walk from there.

Jiang Lai was lazy, she didn’t like to move.

Shi Yubai stopped the car and made a call. In less than five minutes, someone got out of a taxi, bowed respectfully to him, and drove the car away with the keys.

Jiang Lai nodded.

The park played lively music, with children running around. Shi Yubai walked beside Jiang Lai, occasionally reaching out to guide her, helping her avoid passing crowds.

"When I was young, I often thought about building an amusement park when I grew up.

Now that I’m capable, I’ve realized I haven’t thought about that dream in a long time."

Shi Yubai said as they walked.

Jiang Lai nodded in agreement.

"Do you dislike spending time alone with me?"

He stopped and looked at Jiang Lai quietly.

Under the lenses, his eyes held a faint sense of loss.

Jiang Lai shook her head.

"Not really, it’s just that when I’m with someone I’m not familiar with, I don’t know what to talk about."

His eyes darkened instantly at these words.

The vibrant lights masked the change in his eyes.

He remained the gentle and refined man, only smiling lightly at her words.

"So what kind of people do you prefer to be with? Am I too dull or too uninteresting?"

He looked at Jiang Lai, waiting for her reply.
