Abruptly transferred to an open area several streets away, Sylvia looked at the mysterious cloaked man opposite her, her eyes likewise filled with astonishment. The one who had launched a nighttime raid on Miles had actually dragged her out here.
What was he planning to do?
The mysterious cloaked man slowly spoke. "So the Empire Church's hounds have set their sights on Miles as well?"
"You're the one who set your sights on Miles, you disgusting perverted creep!"
"Perverted creep?"
Beneath the hood shadowing his face, the man's brows knit a bit.
He had been called a genius, called a madman, called a stalker, and even called a scumbag.
But this was the first time he had ever been called a perverted creep.
"You must be misunderstanding something."
The cloaked man extended his arm, revealing Spirit Eyes that glimmered in the darkness.
"Anyways, no matter what, I will not allow people from the Empire Church to approach Miles at a time like this!"
"Spirit Eyes? Then you're also a duelist!" Sylvia's expression immediately turned serious.
Both a high-tier archmage and a duelist… Sylvia didn't need to think twice to know such a person was anything but simple. She had to treat this with the utmost seriousness.
Fortunately, it was late at night. After a twelve-hour cooldown, the energy of her Spirit Eyes had mostly recovered.
If it came to a duel, there would be no problem at all!
She had to protect the little boy Miles from the hands of this perverted creep.
"Duel!"
The duel began, with Sylvia taking the first turn.
"I activate the effect of the Continuous Spell [Malefic Territory], search the Field Spell [Malefic World], and activate it directly!"
A classic Malefic Deck opening. As the key Field Spell [Malefic World] unfolded before Sylvia, the three Malefic monsters in her hand were able to be Special Summoned.
"I Special Summon from my hand [Malefic Rainbow Dragon], [Malefic Cyber End Dragon], and [Malefic Paradigm Dragon]!"
[Malefic Rainbow Dragon, ATK: 4000]
[Malefic Cyber End Dragon, ATK: 4000]
[Malefic Paradigm Dragon, ATK: 4000]
Sylvia slammed all three Malefic monsters onto the field in one go, each boasting a terrifying 4000 Attack. It was an even more explosive opening than when she dueled Miles earlier that day.
And with three Level 10 monsters already on the field, Sylvia could proceed to overlay without a second thought.
"I overlay my Level 10 [Malefic Rainbow Dragon] and Level 10 [Malefic Cyber End Dragon] to Xyz Summon!"
Chaotic black light detonated across Sylvia's field. From among the Rank 10 Xyz, a solidified Hope wielding a greatsword descended.
"An Xyz body forged from two Malefics! My battle begins here! Blade that bears the darkness of sin! Appear, emissary of chaos! Number XX: Utopic Dark Infinity!!"
[Number XX: Utopic Dark Infinity] Rank 10│DARK│Warrior│4000 ATK
Xyz Summoned, the Hope raised its black greatsword high overhead and activated its recovery effect right away.
"Once per turn, I target my face-up Special Summoned [Malefic Paradigm Dragon] with 4000 Attack. I recover 4000 Life Points!"
An exaggerated first-turn recovery. A vast torrent of life force surged from the Hope's blade and poured entirely into Sylvia's body.
[Sylvia, LP: 4000 → 8000]
"Finally, I set two cards. Turn end!"
Committing all her resources at once, Sylvia's tempo was even faster than in her daytime duel.
"Come on! Let me see what you're capable of, you perverted creep!"
"I see. A duelist who uses Malefic, huh."
From beneath the shadow of his hood, the man's lips curled into a mysterious smile.
"Then this might be a little interesting. My turn, draw!"
Drawing his opening card, the cloaked man immediately flung a card from his hand and performed a summon.
In truth, the moment this summon was completed, the man's identity was already beyond doubt.
"Normal Summon—[Aleister the Invoker]!"
[Aleister the Invoker] Level 4│DARK│Spellcaster│1000 ATK
"How can this card exist?"
This was the first time Sylvia had ever seen such a strange card—one that shared its name with the famed genius Aleister of Fusion Academy.
A card named [Aleister the Invoker]. Any duelist capable of using it could only be Aleister himself.
It was just that, given Sylvia's frame of reference, she couldn't yet imagine the madness of a person turning themselves into a card.
"I activate the effect of [Aleister the Invoker]!"
"When this card is Normal or Flip Summoned, I add [Invocation] from my Deck to my hand!"
"I add the Spell Card [Invocation] to my hand!"
After searching the most crucial card, Aleister did not activate it right away.
With a flick of his fingers, Aleister threw out another Spell from his hand.
"—Spell Card [Polymerization], activate!"
A standard Fusion Spell. Spiral light bloomed across the night sky as [Aleister the Invoker] on the field and the FIRE monster [Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring] from the hand were sent to the Graveyard as Fusion Materials.
"Rampaging flames tear everything apart. Demons hiding within the Elemental Plane of Fire—roar to your heart's content! Open, the Elemental Plane of Fire! Fusion Summon—[Invoked Purgatrio]!"
[Invoked Purgatrio] Level 7│FIRE│Fiend│2300 ATK
[Aleister the Invoker + FIRE monster]
A Fusion of the Invoked series that requires Aleister as the medium, supplemented by a FIRE-attribute monster.
A demon wreathed in flames leapt and writhed within the dark night.
"It's not over yet!—Spell Card [Invocation], activate!"
Only after completing a standard Fusion did Aleister activate the Invoked system's signature Fusion Spell, [Invocation].
[Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand as Fusion Material. If Summoning an "Invoked" Fusion Monster this way, you can also banish monsters from your field and/or either player's GY as Fusion Material.]
Unlike normal Fusion, [Invocation] can perform Invoked Fusion by selecting Fusion Materials from the Graveyard, much like Necro Fusion.
Naturally, you can even choose to banish monsters from your opponent's Graveyard as Fusion Materials.
It's just that, at the moment, there were no monsters in Sylvia's Graveyard.
"I banish [Aleister the Invoker] and [Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring] from the Graveyard as Fusion Materials—open the gate a second time! Elemental Plane of Fire, [Invoked Purgatrio]!"
A second identical FIRE Invoked demon was Fusion Summoned onto Aleister's field.
However, the combat power of two FIRE Invoked monsters still couldn't match the two 4000-Attack monsters on Sylvia's field.
"Then there's [Invocation]'s other effect in the Graveyard."
[If this card is in your GY: You can target 1 of your banished "Aleister the Invoker"; shuffle this card into the Deck, and if you do, add that card to your hand.]
"I return the banished [Aleister the Invoker] to my hand, and shuffle [Invocation] back into the Deck."
The Invoked engine's infinite resource loop—so long as monsters remain in the Extra Deck, Aleister can continue Fusion Summoning endlessly.
"So that's your tactic," Sylvia understood. "But Fusion without enough power, no matter how many monsters you make, can't defeat Malefic and Utopic Infinity."
"Fusion without enough power? You've got some nerve saying that," Aleister gestured. "[Invoked Purgatrio]'s effect!"
[This card gains 200 ATK for each card your opponent controls.]
An effect that increases its Attack based on the number of cards on the opponent's field.
At this moment, Sylvia controlled 2 monsters, the Continuous Spell [Malefic Territory], the Field Spell [Malefic World], plus 2 Set cards—for a total of 6 cards.
[Invoked Purgatrio, ATK: 2300 → 3500] ×2
Drawing soul-fire from the cards to enhance themselves, both FIRE Invoked monsters rose together to 3500 Attack.
"Even so, it's still not enough!"
"That's exactly why I recovered this card. [Aleister the Invoker]'s other effect!"
[(Quick Effect): You can send this card from your hand to the GY, then target 1 Fusion Monster you control; it gains 1000 ATK/DEF until the end of this turn.]
"I send the recovered [Aleister the Invoker] to the Graveyard to raise one [Invoked Purgatrio]'s Attack by 1000!"
As Aleister poured his magic into the flaming Invoked demon, the FIRE fiend dancing in the night swelled even larger.
[Invoked Purgatrio, ATK: 3500 → 4500]
"And [Invoked Purgatrio]'s other effect—it can attack all monsters your opponent controls, and it deals piercing damage!"
Two effects per card, none wasted. With 4500 Attack, the FIRE Invoked monster could easily break through Sylvia's 4000-Attack board.
This time, Sylvia didn't voice any rebuttal.
The two Trap Cards Set in her back row—Mirror Force and Magic Cylinder—were more than enough to stop the Invoked assault this turn.
And as Trap Cards resolved, the number of cards on her field would decrease, lowering the FIRE Invoked monster's Attack as well.
"Take this—an elemental roar from the Plane of Fire!!"
Waves of blazing elemental power surged forward, crashing toward Sylvia's [Malefic Paradigm Dragon].
"You fell for it!—Trap Card [Magic Cylinder], activate!"
Sylvia flipped open the classic heavy-hitting Trap.
Magic Cylinder negates the opponent's monster's attack and reflects damage equal to that monster's Attack—in this case, 4500 points of effect damage—enough to defeat Aleister outright.
"So, who exactly fell for it?"
From beneath the shadow of his cloak, Aleister's lips curled upward in a smile once more.
[Aleister, LP: 4000 → 2000]
Before [Magic Cylinder] could take effect, Aleister's Life Points were reduced first.
"Pull the plug!—Counter Trap [Red Reboot]!"
"Impossible?" Sylvia exclaimed. "You activated a Counter Trap directly from your hand?!"
[When your opponent activates a Trap Card: Negate the activation, and if you do, Set that card face-down, then they can Set 1 other Trap directly from their Deck.]
[For the rest of this turn after this card resolves, your opponent cannot activate Trap Cards.]
[You can activate this card from your hand by paying half your LP.]
Faster than ordinary Traps, the moment [Red Reboot] was activated, Sylvia could only watch as her already-flipped [Magic Cylinder] was forcibly Set back onto the field.
And for the rest of this turn, after [Red Reboot] resolved, she was helplessly unable to activate Trap Cards.
"As compensation, you may Set one Trap Card from your Deck. Of course, that's assuming you'll still have a chance to use it."
"What nonsense are you spouting?"
At this point, Sylvia still had 8000 Life Points. She didn't feel any sense of danger at all.
Following the principle of 'if you can Set it, then Set it,' Sylvia Set the Trap Card [Malefic Claw Stream] in her back row.
However, with Trap Cards unable to be activated this turn, the additional Set card would only become extra Attack for [Invoked Purgatrio].
[Invoked Purgatrio, ATK: 4500 → 4700]
"Elemental fire barrage—combo attack!"
[Malefic Paradigm Dragon] destroyed
[Sylvia, LP: 8000 → 7300]
As Sylvia's monster was destroyed and left the field, her total number of cards decreased, causing the FIRE Invoked monster's Attack to drop by 200.
Naturally, its Attack was still higher than Dark Infinity.
"Flame combo—second strike!"
[Number XX: Utopic Dark Infinity] destroyed
[Sylvia, LP: 7300 → 6800]
"And then, the third strike of flames from the other [Invoked Purgatrio]!"
"Ugh—aaaaah!!"
[Sylvia, LP: 6800 → 3500]
Taking a direct hit from the fire demon beneath the night sky, Sylvia was blasted away by scorching waves, her Life Points cut by more than half.
"So it finally ends here…"
Even after losing over half of her 8000 Life Points, Sylvia had still endured Aleister's double-fire-demon onslaught for this turn.
"Ends? Sorry. This is just beginning!"
Having no intention of giving Sylvia even a moment to breathe, Aleister now looked more like a demon than the fire demons themselves.
"—Quick-Play Spell [The Book of the Law], activate!"
[Tribute 1 "Invoked" monster; Special Summon 1 "Invoked" monster from your Extra Deck with a different original Attribute from that monster's. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.)]
"I Tribute the FIRE [Invoked Purgatrio] to Special Summon the EARTH [Invoked Magellanica]! Elemental conversion—open the gate of the EARTH Element!"
[Invoked Magellanica, ATK: 3000]
The EARTH Invoked monster with 3000 Attack—its massive rocky body looming beneath the night sky—swung a devastating punch toward Sylvia, whose field was empty and who was still unable to activate Trap Cards.
"Ahhh!!"
[Sylvia, LP: 3500 → 500]
Her sexy body clad in a nun's habit was sent reeling by the crushing blow, her vision spinning as she staggered.
Sylvia had totally misjudged her opponent's strength. In a single turn, her 8000 Life Points had been blasted down to just 500.
"So strong… A duelist this powerful… could it really be…?"
Just like the name on his cards—the super-genius Alester Crowley, publicly hailed by Fusion Academy as a once-in-a-century prodigy.
"As a finisher, I'll send you something big! Let you witness an Invoked Fusion of a whole new elemental realm!"
Since graduating from Fusion Academy and losing to Miles in his graduation duel, Alester had not wasted a single day over the past two months.
The super-genius Alester Crowley had further grasped the true essence of Invocation.
"—Quick-Play Spell [Flash Fusion]! Fuse the two Invoked monsters on my field even further!"
[Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters you control as Fusion Material.]
A Quick-Play Fusion Spell that could be activated during the Battle Phase. The absurd fusion spectacle violently drew in the FIRE and EARTH Invoked monsters.
Not just two elemental Attributes—DARK, EARTH, WATER, FIRE, WIND, and LIGHT.
At this very moment, behind Aleister, every elemental brilliance representing all Attributes except DIVINE was ignited by this instantaneous fusion.
"Gate of all elements, ultimate opening! Fusion Summon—[Invoked Elysium]!"
[Invoked Elysium] Level 10│LIGHT│Fairy│3200 ATK
[1 "Invoked" monster + 1 monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck]
[While this card is in the Monster Zone, this card is also treated as DARK, EARTH, WATER, FIRE, and WIND.]
With a slender form seemingly connecting heaven and earth, stretching straight toward the cosmos, Alester's strongest Invoked monster, Elysium, tore through space as it descended.
Just to secure the final 500 points of damage, Aleister did not hesitate to expend an enormous amount of magic power to perform such an over-the-top Invoked Fusion.
"It's over! [Invoked Elysium]'s final direct attack—All-Element Spiral Detonation!"
A bombardment from the cosmos overhead, six-colored elemental light spiraling together.
"Ahhhhh!!"
Overwhelmed by an inescapable disparity in power, even after boosting her Life Points to 8000 at the start, Sylvia was still instantly defeated.
[Sylvia, LP: 500 → 0]
Even more tragic than her loss to Miles earlier that day... the risqué nun was brutally beaten down by a scumbag.
"Was that final blow satisfying to watch?"
After the duel ended, Alester didn't seem to be speaking to Sylvia at all, instead turning his head toward someone behind him.
"So, what do you think, Miles?"
"As expected of you, Alester-senpai. You're even stronger than you were in the graduation duel."
Aleister's flashy Elysium Fusion at the very end had distinctly been a performance meant for Miles to see.
As for how Miles got here?
With the two of them clashing like this, even from several streets away, Miles could feel the tremendous shockwaves generated by their duel.
