Synopsis

Chu Wei, a wealthy heir, narrowly survives an assassination attempt and seeks refuge at the Jiangjia Inn. Unbeknownst to him, the hitman hired to finish the job, Shu, also arrives at the same establishment. Their paths collide in a dangerous game of hide-and-seek within the confines of the inn. This novel reads like a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, mirroring the tension found in high-stakes romantic thrillers. It is perfectly suited for readers who enjoy fast-paced BL with a lethal, high-tension dynamic. However, those seeking sprawling world-building or extensive character development should skip this title. Due to its brevity, the pacing is incredibly rapid, stripping away filler to focus on the immediate, volatile chemistry between the protagonist and his pursuer. The standout quality is the contained setting, which heightens the sense of claustrophobia and inevitable confrontation.

As a completed work of only nine chapters, Kill And Follow functions more as a novelette than a full-length novel. Its primary strength lies in its tight focus; by confining the action to a single location and a clear conflict, the author avoids the bloat often found in the genre. The premise of a target and an assassin sharing the same space creates immediate narrative momentum. However, the brevity is also its most significant flaw. With such a limited page count, there is little room for the characters to evolve beyond their initial archetypes, and the resolution likely feels rushed. While it serves as a quick, punchy read, it lacks the emotional resonance and intricate plotting required for a higher rating. It is a competent exercise in tension, but it feels more like a prologue to a larger story than a fully realized narrative.
