From an editorial perspective, the novel's greatest strength lies in its attempt to humanize the rigid figures of the Five Hu and Sixteen Kingdoms, offering a 'relaxed and sweet' alternative to the usually grim depiction of this era. The BL elements provide a tender emotional core that contrasts well with the surrounding turmoil. However, the work suffers from a critical lack of depth due to its length. With only nine chapters, the narrative is far too brief to meaningfully explore the complex political landscape or the titular founding of the Northern Wei Dynasty. It feels more like a detailed prologue or a series of vignettes than a fully realized novel. While the prose aims for a poignant atmosphere, the story concludes before any significant character growth or historical tension can truly peak, leaving the reader wanting a much more substantial development of the plot.
