This completed BL short story succeeds primarily through its strong atmospheric grounding. The author effectively utilizes the imagery of the Yellow Springs and the ritual of the forgetfulness soup to establish a mood of profound loss and yearning. The poetic tone elevates the brief interactions between Liang Mengsheng and Bai Wuchang, making the setting feel lived-in despite the limited page count. However, the novel's greatest weakness is its length. At only six chapters, it functions more as a prose poem or a character sketch than a fully realized narrative. There is insufficient room for the emotional arcs to breathe or for the central relationship to be explored with any depth. While it serves as a poignant mood piece, the lack of narrative substance prevents it from offering a satisfyingly complete story.
