Synopsis

Lu Tangyu, a successful investor, seeks a quiet life in Austria with his partner, only to be pulled back into a decade-old nightmare of financial crime and disaster. To clear his name, he must return to China and confront a repressed, violent alternate personality vying for control of his mind. This reads like a psychological thriller blended with dual identity and past trauma tropes common in suspenseful BL dramas. It is ideal for readers who enjoy fast-paced mysteries and complex mental health themes. Those seeking a slow-burn romance or a long, sprawling epic should skip this, as it is exceptionally brief. The narrative utilizes a fragmented, alternating timeline between the present and memory, creating a disorienting yet focused pace that mirrors the protagonist's fractured psyche.

The novel is an ambitious but extremely condensed psychological piece. Its greatest strength lies in its structural experimentation; alternating between the real timeline and memory sequences allows the author to weave a mystery without excessive exposition. However, the brevity is a significant drawback. At only seven chapters, the plot feels rushed, and the complex themes of dissociation and criminal conspiracy are barely scratched before the story concludes. While a redemption arc is promised, there isn't enough space in this first part to fully develop the emotional stakes. Given the low chapter count, it feels more like a prologue or a conceptual sketch than a complete novel. It serves as an intriguing setup for the promised sequel, but lacks the substance to stand alone as a satisfying narrative.
