Soon, the elevator doors opened, and footsteps approached from afar. Nathan Mills, sitting on the bench, slowly lifted his eyes and saw Trevor walking over with his arm around Janelle’s shoulder, and he finally came back to his senses.
Both looked relaxed, and Janelle even had a slight smile at the corners of her lips, which surprised Old Mills slightly, as if she hadn’t taken a severe emotional blow.
Could my guess have been wrong?
"Dad." Kneeling down in front of her father, Janelle Mills offered the meal box with both hands, her voice gentle, "Please eat something first. We don’t know when Mom will be able to come out, but it’s good that she’s out of danger."
As he sat on the bench, staring at his daughter, Nathan Mills felt a bit bewildered and had many questions. Her current state... didn’t seem right.
He looked up at Trevor again, who also wore a gentle expression, watching the father and daughter.
"Dad?" Janelle called softly, hiding her emotions deeply.
The middle-aged man snapped back to reality and quickly took the bag, "Okay." He then took out the meal box and a pair of chopsticks.
She didn’t know, which was for the best, and Trevor would help keep it a secret, right?
Janelle’s face showed a trace of a smile, "The surgery was successful, and I believe it won’t be long before Mom starts to recover day by day." She slowly stood up, still feeling hopeful for the future.
Indeed, compared to the panic of learning about the tumor in her brain, everyone’s mood had now calmed significantly.
We have to thank Mia Lane and also the heavens.
When Nathan Mills took the first bite of food, he looked up again at the two young people seated on the bench opposite and asked, "Have you eaten?"
"We’re not hungry," Trevor replied warmly, "We’ll eat later."
Old Mills nodded, averting his gaze. In truth, he wasn’t hungry either and couldn’t eat at all, but since his daughter had bought it herself, he still ate each bite with happiness.
Thinking of his daughter’s origins, his heart was filled with mixed emotions.
As time ticked by, the tense situation in the emergency room eased and returned to calm. Finally, they had raced against death and saved a life. The wound was almost sewn up, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Shortly after Nathan Mills finished his meal, the doors of the emergency room opened, and Mia Lane and the deputy director came out.
The three quickly approached, and before anyone could start asking questions, Mia Lane smiled slightly at everyone and reported, "The surgery went smoothly. Next comes the recovery period. The patient is still in a coma and may need three or four days to wake up, but there’s no rush. She’s already out of danger."
At this moment, everyone outside the door breathed a sigh of relief, their faces showing expressions of ease and gratitude.
"Thank you, Mrs. Kingston." Nathan Mills excitedly grasped her hands, shaking them to express his gratitude.
"You’re welcome, it’s my duty," Mia Lane responded gracefully. After shaking hands, she looked towards Trevor, "Brother, I need to go now. The director here will arrange a room for the patient, and she’ll be out soon."
"Alright, do you need me to take you back?"
"No need, I have bodyguards with me, and we drove here."
As soon as Mia Lane finished speaking, two men approached, bowing respectfully to her, "Ma’am."
She turned her eyes, "Let’s go home."
"Yes."
"Thank you, Sister Mia," Janelle said, tears in her eyes, looking at her with immense gratitude, her voice choked with emotion.
Before stepping away, Mia Lane patted her shoulder and looked at Trevor, "You’re my sister-in-law, no thanks needed among family. Let’s go?"
"Mm-hmm, take care on the road and get some good rest when you get back." Janelle was quite worried about her, standing so long while pregnant, really admirable.
