Chapter 1688: As If Leaving Last Words

4 min read

After a while, Ian Shelby withdrew his gaze and said directly to the national physician next to him, "National physician, I have given you chances to treat my father, but there has been no improvement. So from today on, your tenure as his attending physician is over."He was launching a plan to save his father and wanted to send those unrelated out of the way.

The national physician felt utterly disgraced and couldn’t refute because what Prince Louis said was true.

"Louis!" Catherine was emotionally agitated, even on the verge of collapse, "Do you really wish to watch your father die right before your eyes?! Not even a doctor needed?! He is the national physician of Lorelei! Can you just dismiss him with a single word? It’s not like he hasn’t tried over the years! It’s just that the King’s illness is too severe!"

Ian Shelby was really annoyed with this woman! Like a pig-headed fool, even though he didn’t believe Catherine had the intelligence to poison, thus ruling out the possibility of her being the culprit.

So Ian once again turned his sharp eyes to look at her, "No one wishes for him to die more than you do. The sooner Father dies, the more it benefits you because your forces are intact, while I just returned alone."

Catherine was bewildered, what did he mean by that? How could he say such things in front of so many people?

The King also heard this and sensed the tension in the air, so he fought through the pain in his body to get up and diffuse it all.

Because he least wanted to see these two forces become oppositional; they’re both his sons, flesh on the palm and back of his hand.

"Louis! Stop slandering me!" Catherine was furious, feeling especially wronged!

And being accused in front of so many people, she had to clarify, "My relationship with the King is stable! I have always been sincere with him! I wish him a long life!"

Ian Shelby didn’t want to argue with her at all, as such an argument was meaningless.

At this time, the King was already struggling to get up, two servants rushed to support him, "King!" which attracted everyone’s attention.

"Father!"

"Husband!"

Ian and Catherine almost simultaneously rushed to the bedside to support the King, both genuinely concerned, loving him deeply.

The King’s condition was especially bad at this moment, following a violent cough, the medicine had not yet taken effect.

"Stop arguing..." His voice was weak, gasping while clutching his chest.

Justin Kingston and Jocelyn Morgan were also holding their breaths; the medicine hadn’t gone through clinical trials, and everyone was unconditionally placing their trust in Mia Lane, hoping for a miracle.

The King’s face was pale, but his lips were terribly purple, "You all... must... live in harmony." He clenched his fists and then slowly turned his gaze, his eyes gently sweeping over everyone.

The servants and guards knelt on the ground, all were terribly anxious, was he delivering his last words?

Was the royal family about to change? A new King about to ascend?

"Husband, what are you trying to say? Don’t rush, take your time, I’m not trying to go against him, it’s just that he really went too far, he slandered me!" Catherine urged nervously, genuinely worried, and also wanting to clarify so as not to be misunderstood.

The King nodded, feeling the emotions accumulated over the years.

"I might not... have much time left." The King said with difficulty, cold sweat drenching his black hair, "Louis... Louis has been away for so long, I... I hope he can... spend... spend my final days with me."

Catherine was very jealous, but she couldn’t go against the King’s wishes, especially when he was on the brink of death.

Tears unknowingly welled up in Ian Shelby’s eyes, turning slightly red, he regretted not coming back sooner.

Eden looked at Ian Shelby, observing his expression.
