Chapter 2382: 2196: Russian Cuisine

5 min read

Liliya’s father, Yakov, hoped Ye Qiu would visit again, and Ye Qiu agreed to go over. However, he didn’t go alone; he brought Zhou Wenting with him.

They got into the car Liliya drove, and the bodyguard was driving them back to the Gothic building where Liliya’s father lived.

Liliya’s father could only be considered the regional mafia leader, not a Godfather.

In this aspect, he was quite inferior to Helena’s father’s Godfather status.

Arriving at that Gothic building, when Zhou Wenting and Ye Qiu got out of the car and followed Liliya inside, Zhou Wenting was truly amazed by such a magnificent Russian building.

Such Gothic architecture is common in Europe, especially around the grand cathedrals.

Unexpectedly, the place where Liliya and her father lived turned out to be here.

As they walked in, Zhou Wenting indeed felt it was majestic, but it didn’t seem like a place housing many people. Therefore, even though there were lit lights, few people were seen.

"Miss, welcome back."

A Russian maid came over to greet them.

"Is dinner ready?"

"It’s ready."

Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting had eaten hot pot at the camp earlier in the afternoon, so they weren’t hungry.

But Liliya had already prepared dinner in advance.

It was authentic Russian cuisine.

Russian food falls under Western cuisine but isn’t widely recognized, even less so than Spanish or English cuisine.

Russian dishes are characterized by a wide variety of ingredients, meticulous preparation, delicate processing, techniques suited to ingredients, attention to color, diverse flavors, strong adaptability, oily and heavy flavors.

The Russians enjoy sour, sweet, spicy, and salty dishes, so sour cream, cottage cheese, lemon, peppers, pickles, onions, white oil, fennel, and bay leaves are often used as seasonings in cooking.

Moreover, the Russians particularly like salmon, herring, sturgeon, trout, red caviar, black caviar, smoked salted fish, and pomfret.

However, meats, poultry dishes, and various meatballs must be cooked thoroughly before eating. Russians also like dumplings made with fish, minced meat, eggs, and vegetables.

"Dr. Ye, Miss Zhou, I’ve asked the chef to prepare authentic Russian cuisine for you to try."

Russian food?

Upon hearing that, Ye Qiu immediately realized he had no appetite for it.

"Ye Qiu, what did she say?"

"She said they’re warmly welcoming us and the kitchen has already prepared a hearty dinner."

"Really? I’m not even hungry."

Actually, in Ye Qiu’s view, it would be better to eat something as simple as a grilled steak than Russian food.

As they followed Liliya to the dining area, they found it very large, possibly 100 to 200 square meters.

On the long dining table, quite a few dishes were already laid out.

"Where’s your father?"

"I’ll go get my father."

Once Liliya left, only Ye Qiu, Zhou Wenting, and two young Russian maids remained.

"Ye Qiu, I always feel something odd here, like these buildings are usually churches, where priests live. Why do others stay in such structures?"

"Maybe to ward off evil!"

The other party is the regional mafia head, surely with blood on his hands, so trying to ward off evil spirits seems normal.

However, Western and Eastern concepts of Feng Shui differ greatly, making it hard to apply Eastern Feng Shui to Western minds.

Although this place is Siberia, in North Asia.

The people here are still Russians, definitely influenced by European culture.

As the two sat there for ten minutes, only Liliya returned.

"Dr. Ye, my dad said he doesn’t want to eat yet, so we should go ahead."

"Then let’s have a bite."

There were indeed many dishes, but they looked no different from McDonald’s.

Ye Qiu and Zhou Wenting tried a bit, finding nothing particularly tasty. Compared to French cuisine, it fell short.

"Liliya, wouldn’t grilled steak be better than this?"

"Dr. Ye, don’t you like it? I can have someone prepare grilled steak for you if you prefer."

"No need, we’re not hungry."

The cultural differences between East and West are truly significant.

Ye Qiu really doesn’t enjoy the foods Russians typically eat.

Seeing they didn’t enjoy the meals, with so much soup and food left on the table, Liliya felt somewhat disappointed.

She ordered the dishes to be cleared.

In this cold climate, even if the food isn’t refrigerated, it surely won’t spoil, but they definitely wouldn’t eat food left overnight – it might be given directly to the dogs here.

Several Caucasian dogs are kept here, and these dogs appear quite large, often favored by many mafia leaders.

Liliya led the two away from there.

Upon reaching where Yakov lived, Zhou Wenting didn’t go further; she was called over by Liliya, leaving Ye Qiu to go in alone.

The place was the same as before, but it had been cleaned; without the unpleasant medicinal smell, the room felt much more comfortable.

Upon entering, Ye Qiu saw the elderly man – indeed, it was Liliya’s father, Yakov.

"Sir, how are you feeling?"

"Dr. Ye, you’ve come."

Yakov turned and spoke.

When Ye Qiu closed the door, Yakov asked, "Dr. Ye, are you sure my liver cancer cells have completely disappeared?"

"Didn’t you go to the hospital for a detailed check-up?"

Yakov had indeed gone for a check-up, and the report showed no further cancer cells; his liver had also fully recovered.

If he weren’t a mafia boss, those doctors would’ve loved to keep him as a guinea pig experiment, aiming for a Nobel Prize in Medicine.

"Will it return in the future?"

"In my experience treating many patients, I haven’t seen cases of cancer cell recurrence. So, you don’t need to worry; as long as you don’t drink excessively, your lifespan will be long."

Hearing that there was really nothing to worry about, Yakov was completely relieved.

"Liliya is my youngest daughter; she greatly admires you. Why don’t you stay here for a few more days?"

For someone like Yakov, having as many women as he wants is normal, and Liliya was born to one of his later wives, in his forties.

This daughter was cherished as she was born late in his life.

"Mr. Yakov, thank you for your hospitality."

Having received his medical payment, Ye Qiu didn’t want to become too familiar with him.

Upon leaving, Ye Qiu saw Liliya and Zhou Wenting nearby.

Zhou Wenting couldn’t speak Russian, and Liliya didn’t speak English or Chinese, so the two couldn’t communicate at all.
