Chapter 1620: 977: Holy Light, Still Out of Control!_4

5 min read

And now the massacre that fills the capital is sheer torture! Millions of inhabitants of the capital are being brutally slaughtered, turning the entire city blood-red, bizarre enough to serve as a map within the Sain Dungeon.

The intense scent of blood is suffocating.

They routinely returned to the capital to report, only to be delayed a few days by unexpected events on the way. Now upon their return, they found that drastic changes had already taken place here.

It’s transformed from heaven into hell.

The culprits responsible for all this were quickly identified by them.

"Why are there Demon Clan in the capital?"

Anleisi saw the Demon Clan gathered in the ruins, grotesque creatures devouring indistinct flesh. One of them noticed their arrival, turning its head toward her with a grin stretching to its ears.

The power within her as a Hero swiftly reacted, and Anleisi erupted with soaring magic power.

The more Demons present, the stronger the Hero’s response.

Now, Anleisi and Kaius felt an unprecedented intense reaction. It seemed they had never seen so many Demon Clan as there were now in the capital!

Moreover—

Both simultaneously looked toward the Holy Light Church Headquarters, from where a towering beam of light shot skyward.

As they looked at the beam, the Hero’s power reaction reached its peak.

"Brother." Anleisi looked at Kaius, who nodded with an expression more serious than ever.

"Whatever that is, we must kill him!"

The two charged into the surging tide of Demon Clan, and instantly, blood flew everywhere.

It’s unclear how much time passed.

Anleisi pushed open the doors of the Holy Light Church, leaving a long trail of blood behind them. Their blood-soaked garments continuously dripped, tainting the pure white church.

They walked into the beam of light, clearly the entire church was enveloped by it, evidently the source of everything.

Why the capital had Demon Clan, why all the residents were slaughtered, what the beam of light was—answers to all these questions would be revealed in the church.

Because they had already seen the person who could explain everything.

"Pope!"

A kind-faced old man sat upon a throne, gazing at Anleisi and Kaius.

He wore a robe formed of Holy Light, with layers of halos floating above his crown, appearing as pure and angelic as if descended from heaven, making genuine Holy Light believers prostrate in awe.

But such people were all dead now.

"Pope, no, what exactly are you, and what do you intend to do!"

Anleisi raised her magic wand aimed at the Pope, gathering pseudo-forbidden spell-level magic under the Hero’s power.

Kaius raised a hand to stop her, "Don’t act rashly."

His eyes were sharper, discerning deeper truths. At this moment, he saw that the Pope was experiencing some sort of transformation.

The Pope looked at the two without speaking, yet a voice appeared in their minds.

[You are the last ones.]

The voice was indistinguishable between male and female, mechanical and rigid, devoid of any emotion, yet chilling to the bone.

The last ones left? What did it mean?

The light around the Pope suddenly intensified to a blinding degree, his figure embraced by the radiance appearing like one of those so-called miracles shown off to believers.

But this time the miracle was all too real, the blazing light transformed into countless twisted hands reaching for the two, causing the air through which they passed to become heavy and stagnant.

Anleisi unhesitatingly cast the pseudo-forbidden spell from her hand, and the moments of intersection exploded into a brilliant flash. The explosion seemed to possess life force, extending upward along the hands towards the Pope.

But the next instant, countless unharmed hands pierced through the smoke of the explosion, and swiftly approached her.

"What!"

Though she had consumed a lot of stamina battling the Demon Clan, Anleisi was sure the magic she just cast genuinely had pseudo-forbidden curse-level attack power. How could it have no effect?

At this critical moment, a force suddenly pushed her out; it was Kaius.

"Ugh!"

Kaius was instantly grabbed by the hand at his throat, endless hands immediately crawled over him, entangling him into a human-shaped cocoon, suspended up to the church ceiling.

"Brother!"

Anleisi anxiously looked up, her pupils suddenly shaking.

The ceiling was hung with countless tightly packed cocoons, each emanating the breath of life, filled with people!

The moment he was wrapped in the cocoon, Kaius knocked himself unconscious.

At this moment, a power never felt while conscious surged within Anleisi, enabling her to instantly transcend the shackles of her strength and enter a higher level, truly belonging to the Hero’s level.

In that instant, she understood many previously incomprehensible things, but there was no time for shock. She immediately used flying skill far beyond ordinary speed to evade, and with a wave of her hand, dozens of pseudo-forbidden spell-level magic attacks were launched at the Pope.

Yet the Pope stood bathed in the magic barrage, motionless, even the church remained extraordinarily sturdy, without any reaction no matter how much she detonated.

The Hero’s power told Anleisi that she must destroy the adversary here; otherwise, an unfortunate fate awaited, but how exactly to kill?

Intuitively she knew that the Pope and herself were no longer the same level of beings!
