Black cities burned under the twin crimson moons as Korrath and Selene pressed their attack. The plaza had become a cratered ruin. Lucian’s shadows still held the core of the battlefield, but the strain showed in the way the darkness flickered at the edges. Heron moved through the chaos like a pale ghost, spear flashing, body adapting with every exchange. Cuts closed faster. Timing sharpened. The Draugr was still growing even as the fight dragged on. Korrath’s white fire roared hotter. "This decoy and its pet are costing too much time."
Selene’s starlight blades carved another arc through the air. "Then we end them and force the real one out."
They gathered power for a joint strike—termination energy and conceptual erasure weaving together above the ruined plaza.
Before the attack could fall, the air behind Heron split open in fourteen clean, silent tears.
Fourteen figures stepped through at the same moment.
Black coats lined with crimson silk. Black dragonhide over the shoulders. The Origin Flame stitched in red across their backs, each marked with a number from I to XV—missing only the one already standing on the field.
They arrived without announcement, without battle cries. Just presence.
Damaris, watching from the highest balcony of the Origin Palace, felt his golden eyes widen. He had ruled this realm in his son’s absence. He had seen Lucian grow. He had watched Heron become something unexplainable. But these—
"How?" The word left him under his breath. "How did he create them?"
He knew the answer for some. Anita, the first Lucifer had ever turned. Zane, who had climbed higher than almost anyone under the Progenitor’s mark. The pure vampires among them carried Lucifer’s blood. But the others—the witch, the werewolf, the human, the ones who had never taken the turn—had simply chosen to follow. And somehow, over the decades, they had all reached a level that rivaled true Progenitors.
Korrath and Selene felt the shift immediately. The weight of fourteen additional auras, each one dense and refined, slammed into the battlefield like a second sky falling.
Selene’s black-void eyes narrowed. "More of them."
Korrath’s grin returned, slow and sharp. White fire flared brighter inside the cracks of his armor. "Good. This means I no longer have to hold back."
Zane stepped forward from the line, hands in his coat pockets, the IV on his back catching the crimson light. A cocky grin pulled at the corner of his mouth.
"Nobody told you to hold back anyway."
He glanced sideways at Heron. The Draugr’s empty eyes met his. A small, crooked smile touched Heron’s grey face.
"Guess I have to lock in as well," Heron said quietly.
The Origin Clan moved as one.
Centuries of fighting together showed in every step. Anita raised one hand and the blood still spilled across the plaza rose in perfect ribbons, forming barriers and blades at the same time. Alessia vanished into the shadows Lucian already controlled, becoming an extension of the domain rather than a separate fighter. Mikael’s massive sword left its sheath with a sound like tearing metal, and the Butcher King simply walked toward Korrath as if the Reaver’s size meant nothing.
Zane did not rush. He walked at an almost casual pace while dual streams of blood and shadow coiled around his arms. When Korrath swung a termination-laced fist, Zane slipped past it by a finger’s width and answered with a precise counter that cracked another plate of void-forged armor.
Heron accelerated.
The Draugr’s evolution jumped another step under the pressure of allies arriving. His spear became a blur. Every time Selene tried to erase a section of the battlefield, Heron was already outside the effect, striking from a new angle. The coordination was seamless—Heron forced openings, Zane exploited them, Anita controlled the blood flow so no one on their side lost momentum.
Roland reshaped bone mid-air, turning shattered debris into spears that forced Selene to waste erasure on distractions. Silas copied a fragment of Korrath’s own termination energy for ten full seconds and hurled it back. Vel’s red lightning stitched the sky, landing a hundred micro-strikes in the space of a blink to keep the Reavers from resetting their stance. Daron called quiet adjustments that the others followed without question, turning the chaotic plaza into a controlled kill zone.
Korrath’s frustration finally boiled over. He stopped trying to overpower individual targets and unleashed a wide pulse meant to wipe the entire group. The Origin Clan answered together. Barriers of blood, shadow, bone, and pure will stacked in layers. The pulse hit and broke apart against the combined defense. The crater deepened, but the line held.
Selene’s starlight form flickered with genuine strain. "These are not ordinary subordinates. Their coordination is too refined. They have fought as a single unit for a very long time."
Korrath wiped black fluid from a fresh crack in his armor. "Then we stop treating them like soldiers and start treating them like the real threat."
Zane’s grin never faded. "Took you long enough."
Heron spun his spear once, the weapon humming with whatever strange power continued to build inside him. Lucian’s shadows tightened around the group, giving every Origin member perfect footing and cover.
Damaris remained on the balcony, golden eyes locked on the battlefield. The shock had not fully left his face. His son had built this force in the dark years—quietly, thoroughly, and without ever needing to announce it. Fourteen progenitor-level fighters who moved like extensions of a single will, anchored by the anomaly that was Heron and the first-turned that was Anita.
The Reavers had come looking for one hybrid.
They had found an army that refused to break.
The plaza shook again as both sides prepared for the next exchange. The Vampire Realm’s strongest arsenal was no longer just holding the line.
It was beginning to push back.
