"Look at me! Prove that you’re over me!"Alice Robinson turned her head to face him, her bright eyes staring straight at him without blinking.

"Very well..." Chester Robinson suddenly smiled, reaching out to stroke her face. "Your disguise is getting stronger, but you know you can’t pretend in front of me."

Alice was stunned for a moment, allowing him to gently caress her face.

"You’re such a hypocrite..." Chester took a step forward and hugged Alice, giving her cheek a playful peck, his tender gesture filled with deep affection and indulgence.

"Do you remember? Every time in bed, at first, you always refused, but midway, when I teased you and said I would stop, you would always wrap your legs around me and not let go..."

"Get off!" Alice broke free from him and shouted, for some reason feeling a bit flushed.

Chester chuckled softly, "We used to have so many happy memories."

Alice felt a rush of blood, and said angrily and ashamedly, "I don’t remember anymore."

Chester’s smile deepened, "Shall I help you recall?"

This time, Alice’s cheeks truly flushed red, and even she could feel the heat, but she quickly calmed down.

Furiously, Alice turned her head and walked away.

Memories have become so distant and distant in her heart, she would never remember them again, nor would she recall them.

Alice had just reached the door when she heard Chester’s voice, "My feelings for Becca were never love."

Alice’s body trembled, and she stopped involuntarily, even though she struggled fiercely inside, repeatedly telling herself, that what he said, his matters, everything about him...she shouldn’t care.

Chester came up behind Alice and continued, "I won’t deny, Becca was once the woman I wanted to take care of most in this life, but my feelings for her were not pure, even included a bit of gratitude, so I could accept her being with Howard Geoffrey, but when I found out you were with Claud Laurence, my heart hurt so much, that was the first time I understood what heartache meant."

Chester’s voice was calm, but to Alice, there was a sense of suppressed excitement beneath his words...

Alice finally turned around to face Chester’s complicated gaze.

She laughed coldly, "Chester, do you know? Saying these things now doesn’t move me at all, instead, it makes me feel disgusted... The old you, even if you couldn’t give me the feelings I wanted at the time, your dedication to Becca touched me, but now, seeing me with Claud Laurence, the unwilling you, in order to beat Claud Laurence, you start making up these lies, you’re truly shameless."

"I’m telling the truth." Chester had no smile on his face, and he said self-deprecatingly, "In the past, I might have used disgraceful means to tie you to me, but I won’t now."

Alice shook her head, "Are you justifying your current behavior?"

The complex look in Chester’s eyes faded, gradually becoming clear, "I forced you to come to the island just hoping you’d give me a chance... I don’t want us to just miss each other like this."

Alice said nothing.

Chester continued, "Don’t stay angry with me, I’m emotionally dull, forgive me for realizing my feelings for you so late."

Alice looked at him, and after a long while, she softly uttered, "True feelings come from the heart, they don’t need anything to make sense of..." just like her feelings for him, from the beginning, she was clear about them.

"Yes. Actually, I’ve always been deceiving myself, I’ve known for a long time that I care about you, I just stubbornly refused to admit it because my pride was acting up. I think the biggest reason I wanted to be with Becca was because I desperately wanted to win against Howard Geoffrey." Chester interrupted Alice.

"You competed with Howard Geoffrey for Becca."

"I did it for M." He argued.

She pondered, and after a long time, she said, "No matter what you say now, it’s too late."

She didn’t want to hear him continue, because she was already with Claud Laurence, and she was very clear that at this point, what mattered more to her was Claud Laurence.

He didn’t want to push her too much, he still had a week’s time to win her back.

"Alright, let’s eat." He grabbed her hand, unwilling to let her leave.

Alice looked at him and said lightly, "There’s no possibility between us anymore."

A hint of pain flickered across his heart, Chester forced a smile, "Give me an answer in a week."

Alice pulled free from Chester’s hand and walked straight towards the worktop.

In the candle-lit dining room, Chester and Alice sat facing each other.

They didn’t speak any further, silence became their only form of communication.

After the meal, Chester went to wash the dishes, while Alice sat on the sofa in the living room, feeling a bit tired, she placed her legs on the sofa.

Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Chester rolling up his sleeves to wash the dishes, the dim yellow light from the fireplace casting a serious expression across his handsome face.

She shifted her gaze, looking around the villa once more.

Thinking that on this island, it was just her and him, she couldn’t help feeling a bit scared.

She didn’t know when, but Chester came up behind her, "Are you tired?" he asked softly.

Alice nodded. She was already very tired from the flight, plus her nerves had been tense all the while.

"Let’s go, I’ll take you to your room."

"Mm."

The villa was big, so the stairs to the second floor were long.

Alice followed silently behind Chester, the firelight from the fireplace casting their shadows, overlapping in the reflections.

She looked at the shadows, feeling a bit dazed.

Soon they were in front of a room door, he opened it, turning to her, "You’ll stay in this room tonight, Howard Geoffrey said this room has a 360-degree ocean view, waking up to such a beautiful scenery will surely put you in a good mood."

Alice glanced inside the room, it was pitch black, and she didn’t dare to enter.

Chester seemed to have guessed Alice’s fear, he went inside and found some candles from somewhere, lighting them up, placing them on the floor, on the low cabinet, making the whole room bright.

After lighting the candles, Chester then walked towards Alice, who had stopped at the doorway, "It’s not dark now, you should sleep early, there’s natural gas in the bathroom, you can take a comfortable bath, I’ll be in the room across from yours."

The brightness of the room dispelled most of Alice’s fears, she nodded and walked into the room.
