Chapter 703: Fatal Strike

6 min read

Dramatist Jeremy watches Henwell fight and clicks his tongue."Tsk, tsk, tsk. Henwell truly is formidable. If only someone like him would work with me."

"Lady of Calamity, why don't you try persuading him again? Perhaps he will change his mind."

The Lady of Calamity gives Jeremy a cold look, and several protective spell formations suddenly appear around him.

Terrified, Jeremy hurriedly retreats with both hands raised. "Lady of Calamity, what are you doing? I was only joking."

The Lady of Calamity says coldly, "I do not find that joke amusing. I have told you before. I did not know Henwell was the man who killed the Abyss Sin Shepherd."

"I escaped because of my own ability. I used Fate Grafting to exchange identities with a maid, and that was how I evaded his pursuit."

"Several leaders of the Veil know this as well. If you object, you can ask them, or ask my teacher."

Jeremy waves his hands quickly. "Forget it. There is no need to disturb His Holiness. Since His Holiness has already confirmed it, it must be true."

The Lady of Calamity knows that he has not abandoned his suspicions, but that is unimportant.

If Henwell dies here today, her powerful backing will ensure that no one investigates her.

If Henwell survives this ordeal, it will mean that he can reach the Glory Rank before long.

Once Henwell becomes a Glory Knight, he will occupy a unique position on the continent.

Neither the Veil nor the Western Federation will act against him lightly.

The Veil will then have to mend its relationship with Henwell. If the Lady of Calamity knows him personally, that will not be a bad thing for the Veil.

In her view, the two assassins from the Abundant Continent are indeed powerful.

But they still fall short of killing Henwell, who has an unknown god behind him.

Her main reason for coming is to help Henwell if the chance arises and make him owe her a favor.

She understands his character. If she saves him once, she will almost certainly get his protection when she asks for it later.

Of course, if Henwell is truly unlucky and dies here, she can always hire the two assassins who killed him.

Meanwhile, Henwell and Alex are locked in fierce combat on the battlefield.

Henwell's greatswords flash through a succession of elegant techniques.

Blade Frenzy. Silver Wolf Thrust. Lion King's Wrath.

The onlookers are shocked by the succession of beautiful and deadly moves.

They never expected Henwell to have mastered the Phoenix family's and the Rhine family's sword styles to such a level.

His violent barrage leaves Alex with no choice but to defend.

Henwell seems to be gaining the upper hand, but Jeremy and the Grand Princess, both of whom have fought him before, know that he is still holding back considerably.

They have seen how Henwell truly kills.

His control over his strength is exceptionally precise. He does not normally waste energy by letting it spill outward like this.

When he attacked them in the past, every move was clean and direct. His attacks looked plain, yet each was lethally dangerous.

Jeremy grimaces. "This is bad. They can't handle Henwell. It looks like we need to get out of here."

"Lady of Calamity, may I ask you for a favor?"

"Erase every trace of my involvement. I don't want Henwell remembering me forever after this."

"The Church's Eye of the Holy Spirit is powerful and dazzling. He is the perfect person to draw Henwell's hatred."

The Lady of Calamity nods. "I can do that. But have you prepared the price? You will pay with your power of fate."

Jeremy stares at her with an exaggerated expression. "Lady, we are partners. We are good teammates. How can you charge me?"

The Lady of Calamity ignores him and continues watching the battle.

Seeing this, Jeremy begins tracing runes with both hands, ready to flee at any moment.

On the battlefield, Alex lets out a roar. Blood-red flames appear around her, similar to Henwell's but far more violent and sinister.

Her speed surges, and she launches a furious series of hammer blows at Henwell.

Henwell catches an opening and drives a sword into her, but the blade misses every vital point.

Alex takes the opportunity to smash him with her warhammer, and her blood splashes across him.

The instant Henwell is knocked into the air, Steve finally attacks.

The runes on his strange weapon light one after another until the glow reaches the muzzle.

A burst of energy erupts from it, then vanishes without a trace.

Still airborne, Henwell's eyes widen. He knows he may be finished.

His opponent is even more dangerous than he imagined.

Just as despair closes in, a cold wind sweeps across the battlefield and light snow begins to fall.

The wind shifts Henwell slightly, and that tiny change in position saves him from certain death.

To everyone watching, a fist-sized hole suddenly appears in Henwell's chest. He hits the ground and rolls more than a dozen times.

Only after a long while does Henwell struggle back to his feet. His ruined heart can be seen through the hole in his chest.

Without that sudden cold wind, his entire heart would have been destroyed.

He does not know how his attacker did it, nor does he know where the wind came from.

If his heart had been destroyed, his combat strength would have fallen sharply for a time.

Whether facing the hidden assassin or the frenzied woman before him, he could have died here.

Henwell coughs up mouthfuls of blood. The hearts of everyone watching leap into their throats.

On Cellarwine City's walls, Arius draws his sword. "Hold the city. I'm going to save Henwell."

Ignoring her wounds, the frenzied Alex raises her warhammer and charges at Henwell at full speed.

Just as everyone believes Henwell is about to die, Alex abruptly drops to her knees before him.

Henwell looks at the eight Chains of Civilization wrapped around her and cannot understand it.

She is not fully human.

Given Henwell's present strength, Alex should have at least fifteen chains on her, perhaps even more.

But that does not stop Henwell from killing her.

He sweeps the Dusk Greatsword toward her neck.

Just as everyone believes his desperate counterattack will succeed, the blade stops against her throat.

Henwell frowns and looks into the distance. He can sense that threat again.

He is certain that if he kills this woman, her partner will hit him with another fatal strike.

A moment later, Blood Will extends from Henwell's blade and coils around Alex's neck.

She clearly understands that any movement will cost her head.

Then a figure slowly materializes in the air a hundred meters away.

Steve, his eyes still closed, approaches with the strange weapon in his hands.

Henwell tilts his head and studies the blind marksman. "How did you do that just now?"
