Chapter 822: The Secrets of the Sky Realm

6 min read

Third Person’s POVOnly after years of relentless hard work had she finally secured one of the forty coveted seats within the hallowed Crystal Formation Batch, after advancing to become a Crystal Formation Mage two years ago.

Throughout those years, Shixea had never openly favored her, nor had anyone else from the royal family.

At most, her bloodline identity had merely prevented certain obvious troubles from arising.

There were many young nobles who would have gladly bullied or suppressed an exceptionally talented commoner with no influential background.

However, the moment they learned that Aria belonged to the Froststar Clan, even if only distantly, they wisely restrained themselves.

That small layer of protection had spared her from many unnecessary conflicts over the years, but beyond that, every magical resource she possessed had been earned through her own talent, hard work, and perseverance.

It wasn’t until about a year ago that Shixea’s attitude toward her had gradually begun to change, and she had started inviting her to the FrostStar Palace from time to time.

Whenever she visited, Shixea would occasionally reward her with cultivation resources that even ordinary Crystal Formation students found extremely difficult to obtain.

She would give the advanced spell manuals that she couldn’t access when she had been a member of the Elemental Sea batch within the academy’s public libraries.

Even rare magical herbs that appeared only once every few years would occasionally find their way into Aria’s hands.

There were rare high-grade elemental crystals capable of greatly accelerating mana refinement, precious potions personally brewed by renowned potion masters to increase the density of her mana and strengthen the foundation of her Mana Crystal.

Among them, the foundation solidifying potions were by far the most precious.

Such potions were produced in extremely limited quantities and were used exclusively by Crystal Formation Realm mages.

After all, the Crystal Formation Realm was not merely another stage of the divine ascension path.

It was the most crucial transitional realm in a mage’s journey, serving as the bridge between the Elemental Sea Realm and the mighty Sky Realm.

It was within this realm that a mage gradually refined the Mana Crystal inside their body while constructing the foundation of a future Magic Dimension around it.

Although that Magic Dimension still remained incomplete and largely conceptual during the Crystal Formation Realm, the quality of its foundation determined how powerful it would become after the mage stepped into the Sky Realm and brought it into true existence.

Because of that, every Crystal Formation mage desperately pursued two things above all else.

The first was increasing the density and purity of the mana stored within their Mana Crystal.

The second was strengthening the very foundation upon which that future Magic Dimension would be constructed.1

Those two aspects determined almost everything about a mage’s future.

The overwhelming majority of ordinary Rank Three mages lacked both the talent and the resources necessary to achieve either of them.

Their Mana Crystals remained riddled with impurities, while the foundations of their future Magic Dimensions were hastily constructed through crude cultivation methods and insufficient resources.

As a result, not only were they noticeably weaker than equally ranked geniuses blessed with talent and abundant cultivation resources, but their road leading them toward the Sky Realm also became increasingly fragile.

And when the time finally came to bridge the gap between the unreal and the real, i.e to transform that incomplete framework into a true Magic Dimension, countless hidden flaws and invisible cracks within its foundation would finally reveal themselves, causing the Mana Crystal to collapse under the overwhelming strain.

For some mages, the Mana Crystal merely shattered, reducing them to ordinary people who could no longer practise magic.

Their bodies, which had long relied upon mana to sustain themselves, also became far frailer than those of normal humans.

Others weren’t as fortunate, as their Mana Crystals would shatter violently, and they would perish during the breakthrough itself.

For many more, however, even that bridge between illusion and reality simply failed to form altogether.

Although they survived, their path to the Sky Realm was forever severed, trapping them within the Crystal Formation Realm for the remainder of their lives.

Naturally, none of those gifts, especially ones that defined her life’s future, had come without a purpose.

In return, Shixea had asked her to quietly look after Erius within the academy whenever circumstances required it and offer him assistance if he encountered situations beyond his abilities.

Although Aria understood perfectly that this was nothing more than an exchange of benefits rather than genuine familial affection, she didn’t dislike the arrangement.

After all, the cultivation resources Shixea provided were indeed extremely invaluable, and protecting Erius from time to time wasn’t an overly difficult task for someone of her strength.

Thinking about everything that had happened over the past year, Aria slowly stepped towards the long wooden display case before taking a seat on the fourth chair positioned nearby.

Her blue eyes quietly swept across the neatly arranged weapons.

However, they paused almost immediately, as ever since she had entered the room, one particular weapon had continuously drawn her attention.

It was that long lake-blue spear.

Its polished shaft appeared as though it had been carved from a single piece of translucent sapphire, while delicate wave-like engravings spiraled elegantly along its length.

The spearhead shimmered with a cold azure glow, and faint ripples of water-element mana continuously flowed around it as though it possessed a life of its own.

The moment she laid eyes upon it, she knew that it suited her perfectly.

After all, water had always been the only element she had had an affinity with.

Aria was blessed with a top-tier Mystic Grade talent1 in water-element magic, a level of aptitude so exceptional that Froststar City hadn’t produced someone comparable for several centuries.

Her extraordinary talent was precisely why her father had exhausted every connection available to him to secure her admission into the New Moon Magic Academy.

Both he and the elders of their family understood that someone with her potential could never fully bloom within the comparatively limited environment of Froststar City.

Don’t confuse this ’magic dimension’ with the one Ethan had in his body when he reached the Elemental Sea Realm. It was a rudimentary and virtual form of that magic dimension that was incomplete and didn’t truly exist. Please refer to the Chapter: Magic Realms and Talent Grades of Volume 0 (Auxillary Volume)
