Once out of the cave, they were finally relieved. They quickly replaced the large stone slab and, seeing nothing amiss, left peacefully. Upon descending the mountain, they rushed home, thankful that it was winter and no one was outside, avoiding any potential trouble if discovered.
After this back-and-forth and time spent in the cave, it was nearly two in the afternoon when they got home. Wei Kaiyun hadn’t returned yet, but Old Yang and his family were at home.
"Xinyu, where did you go? Did you go up the mountain too?"
Jiang Xinyu smiled and shook her head, "I just went out for a stroll. Have you had lunch yet?"
"We’ve eaten already; we came back around ten this morning. We just went for a loop outside.
You haven’t eaten yet, have you? There’s still rice in the kitchen; I’ll fry it with some eggs for you."
"No need, I’ll do it myself."
Old Yang felt reassured seeing Jiang Xinyu back and didn’t question anything further.
Just after finishing lunch, the men returned home.
Jiang Xinyu asked if they were hungry, and since they weren’t, she suggested each have a bowl of tea soup; they would make dumplings for dinner.
Wei Kaiyun knew his wife had gone out, thinking she might be feeling frustrated and wanted to enjoy her time with the kids away.
It was indeed a nice misunderstanding; otherwise, Jiang Xinyu would have had to explain.
Feifei noticed her mom’s expression and knew she must have succeeded.
The children were quite disappointed with this mountain trip. Mainly, there was really nothing there, but the younger sister didn’t want to come back. There was no choice but to climb to the peak, which turned out to be truly barren with even the trees scattered.
Jiang Xinyu was preparing the dough to make dumplings for the evening; the rest of the men went to the bed to rest.
Today was gloomy, likely snow was coming, but Han Xiangjun preferred not to return. Yet, Old Yang wanted to go back, feeling it’s better to be home with his wife expecting.
Wei Kaiyun had no objections; any option was fine, especially since home was within a day’s reach.
The kids were also keen to go back, especially Shi Xian, who was looking forward to hanging out with Han Xiangjun since he loved being around people.
"We can play here, too. When the snow comes, we can go outside, have snowball fights, and build snowmen; it’ll be great fun."
Han Xiangjun looked down on the kids, thinking their horizons were too narrow.
Suddenly, they heard the sound of an engine outside. The three men immediately got up.
Han Xiangjun was the first to head out.
"Oh my, who could it be?"
"Uncle Han, are you here too?" Yang Run Tai asked with a smile.
"Yes, came to enjoy the hot springs, though not really enjoying them.
You, what brings you here?"
Though he was just in his teens, he was the only one in the Yang family, ensuring no issues for decades.
He had analyzed before that the Yang family indeed seemed to make remarkably correct steps every time.
This placed the Yang family as significant winners now.
Plus, each step had hints of this young man—once or twice could be coincidence, but every time suggested more. Quite peculiar.
"Uncle Han, Uncle Wei, Uncle Yang. I’m sick of being at home, so I came for a change, thinking this place might be nice."
Yang Run Tai wasn’t lying; he was truly bored at home. Knowing about their visit here, he decided to come too.
Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang nodded and greeted him.
Yang Run Tai’s two companions helped tidy up the place, which was left unfinished waiting for them.
Han Xiangjun smiled, "Let’s go inside. How long are you planning to stay?"
"Well, I plan to stay a few days. If you head back, I might go too—I’m really bored and want to play with the younger ones."
Han Xiangjun laughed, "Run, if you’re bored, hang out with the little rascal. You’ll never be bored with him; as long as there are people and good food, he loves it."
Han Xiangjun called Yang Run Tai by his nickname, humorously referring to Shi Xian.
The kids all greeted Yang Run Tai.
"Alright, when we return to the Capital, I’ll take the younger ones out every day. I know lots of fun places."
The kids were quite wary, not readily accepting Yang Run Tai’s words.
He chuckled internally, wondering about the upbringing of these kids.
"Oh right, I brought tasty snacks, crafted by a renowned chef. Let me grab them."
Yang Run Tai left briefly, and the three men exchanged glances but chose not to say anything to the kids. They could just be mindful themselves.
Wei Kaiyun was now aware of Yang Run Tai’s arrival. Instinctively, he felt this boy was dangerous—not an ordinary person.
Yang Run Tai returned carrying a large bag, placing it on the bed, then took out a big paper bag and handed it to Feifei, "Sister, these are candied chestnuts, especially delicious. Try them."
"Thank you, Brother Yang."
Seeing the little girl smile, Yang Run Tai felt particularly joyful.
Following that, there were sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, roasted peanuts, and walnuts.
"Brothers, eat too—they’re really tasty. I always go to this chef."
Wei Kaiyun joined them on the bed, seated beside his daughter, helping peel a chestnut. The yellow chestnut flesh smelled particularly sweet.
Feifei laughed and leaned against her dad.
The little boys didn’t get such treatment; Wei Kaiyun peeled two more and gave them to the two younger ones.
"Sister, I also brought delicious pastries for you—as well as fruits."
Wei Kaiyun wasn’t pleased hearing this; why was this young lad eager to please, yet could not reject him.
Yang Run Tai spread an array of treats on the bed.
"Alright, you hop on the bed too," Han Xiangjun laughed, disapproving of the attentions Yang Run Tai gave Feifei—his precious princess should only be close to family.
Jiang Xinyu entered from the kitchen, and Yang Run Tai hurriedly greeted her.
"Aunt Wei, I’ll be troubling you for the next few days."
Jiang Xinyu understood immediately, nodding with a smile. Just adding three more servings, not a big issue.
But Wei Kaiyun wasn’t happy; with Zhao Xiaoli pregnant, his wife couldn’t rely on her, leaving only the wife to cook.
He was about to refuse when Jiang Xinyu stopped him with a glance.
Still a bit upset, he thought to discuss with his wife that night, aiming to leave the next day.
Yang Run Tai joined the children on the bed, talking about fun spots in the Capital.
Now they were engaged—some places Han Xiangjun had taken them, Yang Run Tai noted it down.
He then focused on places they hadn’t been to.
"Once we return, I’ll take you out every day, and places you have visited also have many fun spots."
Yang Run Tai promised, making Shi Jing and Jianbin happy, while Shi Xian cheekily sat on Yang Run Tai’s lap, irking Wei Kaiyun even more.
