Chapter 27: A Bit of War Profiteering

6 min read

Upon Ye Yun’s command, everyone moved without hesitation.

No. 4 began cleaning the battlefield and collecting useful supplies, while Bena, Zhou Mei, Lanton, and Zhou Yiming quickly mounted their motorcycles and headed for Branch Base Two.

Ye Yun watched them leave through the observation window, feeling a bit of relief.

’The battle went more smoothly than expected. They should be able to get there before the gate at Branch Base Two is breached.’

Inside the shelter, Ye Yun closely monitored the situation at Branch Base Two.

He knew that although the base’s gate had been upgraded and could hold out for a relatively long time, time was still tight.

He opened the chat room to stay in contact with No. 1 and get the latest updates on Branch Base Two.

No. 1:

"Administrator, the Shelter Entrance’s durability is currently at 93%."

"It’s estimated to hold for about another 15 hours."

Ye Yun:

"Don’t worry, I’ve already sent Bena and the others to support Branch Base Two."

"If there are no surprises on the road, it should only take them about 6 hours to get there."

No. 1:

"Roger that. We’ll hold on."

"All members are ready for battle. We’ll respond immediately if anything happens to the gate."

Ye Yun: "Good. Stay vigilant and keep me updated."

"Bena and the others will get there as soon as possible. You are not fighting alone."

Ye Yun closed the chat window and started to relax.

’A dozen or so hours is more than enough time for them to get there.’

Feeling more relaxed, Ye Yun’s mind turned to other matters. He opened the public chat room.

Just as he expected, the public chat room was filled with cries of despair, a cacophony of urgent pleas for help and complaints.

[The Shelter Entrance’s durability is down to 20%! Can anyone help? I’m willing to trade all my resources!]

[Goddammit! This second shelter thing is a total death trap! Mutated creatures are attacking *both* my shelters now? Is the system trying to fucking kill me?!]

[Thank God I didn’t have enough resources to open a second shelter, otherwise I would have lost big time.]

[Thank God I invested all my resources in training my members, otherwise I’d probably be screwed this time.]

[Requesting support from any big shots nearby! I’m willing to follow your orders afterward. If you tell me to go east, I’ll never go west.]

[Buying one powerful damage-type item for 10 blue components. Any big shots selling one, DM me directly.]

...

Seeing this trade request, Ye Yun narrowed his eyes. He immediately remembered that he did indeed have a damage-type item in his warehouse.

[Shoddy Remote Bomb (Green)]

[Attack: 0-100]

[Attack Speed: Fast]

[Attack Range: Close]

[Stat Requirements: 3 Agility / 3 Constitution / 3 Strength]

[One-time Use Item]

He had obtained this from the Black Wind Raiding Group. Back then, 100 points of damage could play a crucial role.

But now, 100 points of damage was more or less insignificant to Ye Yun.

After a moment of thought, Ye Yun decided to trade it for some resources.

Although it was a relatively rare damage-type item, its quality was plain to see. A green item was of limited use to Ye Yun at this point.

Ye Yun quickly replied to the trade request in the chat room:

"I have a damage-type item, but it’s green quality. If you’re willing to part with 10 blue components, I might consider selling."

The other party was clearly anxious and replied quickly:

"A green damage-type item? What are the stats? Can you send me a screenshot?"

Without hesitation, Ye Yun took a screenshot of the [Shoddy Remote Bomb (Green)]’s stats and sent it over.

After seeing the stats, the other party seemed hesitant and only replied after a while:

"The stats are indeed good, but it’s a one-time use item. 10 blue components is a bit much.

How about this: 8 blue components. If you agree, we can trade immediately."

Seeing the other party haggling, Ye Yun curled his lip.

’These people won’t wise up until they’re staring death in the face.’

’Haggling at a time like this?’

Ye Yun replied:

"10 blue components, no less.

It may be a one-time use item, but the stats speak for themselves. It could save your life at a critical moment.

Think about it. Your Shelter Entrance’s durability is almost gone. This bomb might buy you some precious time.

If you use it well, you might even be able to blow one of the mutated creatures to bits."

The other party was silent for a moment, apparently weighing the pros and cons, before finally replying:

"Fine, 10 it is. Send me the trade request through the private window quickly."

Ye Yun quickly sent a trade request through the system’s private window, placing the [Shoddy Remote Bomb (Green)] in the trade slot. The other party quickly put up the 10 blue components.

After checking that everything was in order, Ye Yun quickly completed the trade.

Ye Yun opened his warehouse and looked at the 10 newly acquired blue components, a satisfied smile on his face.

Although they were just small components, every little bit helps. These parts would be quite helpful for his upcoming plans.

Making an unexpected small profit put Ye Yun in a pleasant mood.

He opened the public chat room and continued to monitor the help requests from other shelter administrators.

Although he wasn’t in urgent need of resources right now, being able to acquire useful materials at lower prices and sell items from his inventory at above-market rates was still a good thing for him.

After all, no one would complain about having too many resources.

In just a few moments, Ye Yun had already earned several dozen blue components.

Meanwhile, No. 4 had also finished cleaning up the battlefield.

[Loot List]

Blue Components x3

Green Components x85

Various White Components

...

At the same time, Bena, Zhou Mei, Lanton, and Zhou Yiming were riding their motorcycles at high speed, heading towards Branch Base Two.

They didn’t encounter many obstacles along the way. The occasional scattered mutated creatures they ran into were easily dealt with.

After several hours of travel, they were already approaching the location of Branch Base Two.

Ye Yun stayed in contact with them via his communication device, keeping track of their progress and situation.

"Bena, where are you now? How much longer until you reach Branch Base Two?"

Ye Yun asked.

Bena replied:

"We’re already approaching the location of Branch Base Two. We estimate we’ll arrive in another half hour."

Ye Yun nodded, feeling a bit relieved.

"Good. Get there as fast as you can. The durability of Branch Base Two’s gate is already down to 64%. You need to hurry."

Bena: "Don’t worry, we’ll get there as soon as possible."

Half an hour later, Bena’s group successfully arrived at Branch Base Two.

Seeing the three large mutated creatures still stuck outside the Shelter Entrance, Bena breathed a sigh of relief.

Drawing on their recent success, the group sprang into action.
