Chapter 49: Kasanti’s Legacy Auction

6 min read

"Has anything special happened at the academy these past few days?"

Andre asked Jonathan as he watched the tasks scrolling on the Magic Energy Screen.

Jonathan tilted his head in thought for a moment before looking at Andre.

"Actually, there is one special thing."

As Jonathan spoke, a strange expression appeared on his face.

"What is it?" Hearing this, Andre tore his gaze away from the Magic Energy Screen to look at Jonathan.

"Kasanti’s legacy is about to be auctioned off."

As Jonathan said this, the strange look on his face intensified.

"Kasanti’s legacy? He has a legacy?"

Andre was stunned.

"Didn’t the Law Enforcement Court confiscate all his belongings?"

Andre scratched his head, seeking confirmation from Jonathan.

"Yes, the Law Enforcement Court confiscated them, but there were too many victims—too many people he stole from. Plus, some of the things he had already consumed."

"So, to compensate for the losses, many people started fighting over what Kasanti left behind. In the end, it was the Law Enforcement Court that suggested auctioning everything off in a special auction.

"The proceeds from the auction will be used to compensate the victims."

After Jonathan finished, he spread his hands and a smile appeared on his face.

"They can do that? Just how much stuff did he steal?"

Andre blinked, finding it hard to believe what he was hearing from Jonathan.

"Normally, this wouldn’t be allowed, but there were too many victims, and they were constantly causing a fuss. The academy agreed to it, considering that if they continued to raise a ruckus, the peace within the academy would be shattered."

"Besides, several Official Wizards are backing these victims. If those Official Wizards were to speak up together, even the Vice Dean would have to take it seriously."

Jonathan nodded and said to Andre.

"So when is the auction?"

Andre’s interest was piqued. He was rather curious about how Kasanti had managed to break through so many different types of Defense Witchcraft.

"It should be tomorrow morning, in front of the Task Hall."

Jonathan thought for a moment before saying to Andre.

Andre nodded, then accepted another task.

The task was to hunt a Water Rhino and bring back its Rhino Horn.

’I’ll set out tomorrow afternoon. In the morning, I’ll see what shows up at this auction.’

Andre handed the Token to Jonathan, letting him accept the task on his behalf.

Jonathan nodded and accepted the task for Andre.

Andre placed the Token into his Storage Ring and walked out of the Task Hall, thinking about the peculiar auction as he went.

’The fact that all these victims agreed to auction off Kasanti’s legacy must mean there are some decent things among the loot.’

After thinking this, Andre sighed and turned to walk toward the Wizard Inheritance Hall.

He needed to go back to the Wizard Inheritance Hall to look for books about the Water Rhino and devise a targeted strategy.

And so, a night passed.

The next morning, Andre arrived at the Task Hall, a piece of beef jerky in hand, to watch the peculiar auction.

And the auction was indeed peculiar—not only because of the items being sold, but also because the process and ceremony were incredibly crude.

It even started with only a dozen or so people present.

"The first auction item: a Qingming Tree Heart."

The auction began once a dozen or so people had gathered.

A captain from Farrete’s Law Enforcement Team, holding a pile of items, started the auction.

The captain’s face was filled with bitterness.

But there was nothing to be done. Who else’s fault was it that he drew the short straw last night?

Now, no matter how unwilling he was, he had to do it.

The captain randomly picked an item from Kasanti’s belongings and began the auction.

’A Qingming Tree Heart. It can be used to refine Witchcraft Artifacts, or its juice can be extracted through soaking and grinding to concoct Magic Potions. But this piece is a bit too short!’

After studying the piece of tree heart for a while, Andre decided to pass on it.

In the end, the Qingming Tree Heart was sold for three thousand Magic Stones.

Afterward, one by one, Witchcraft Tools and other items Kasanti had left in his room were brought out for auction.

Andre kept shaking his head as he looked at the items; there wasn’t a single thing he considered worthwhile.

The items that did catch his eye were either damaged or too small to be of much use.

"I wonder how much of our losses these things can even cover."

Just then, some of the victims arrived at the auction. Watching the ongoing "junk" auction, they muttered amongst themselves.

Sitting in the back, Andre listened to the victims and shook his head helplessly.

’Expecting these items to cover their losses is basically impossible. At best, it’s a form of psychological comfort.’

As the auction progressed, more and more people joined, but few were willing to call out high prices.

This situation made the victims standing not far from Andre even more disappointed.

Andre couldn’t help but shake his head at the scene before him.

’Kasanti was nearing the end of his life. He would have long ago exchanged any good items he had for things that could extend his lifespan, which he then used up.’

’Over the years, he may have helped the Official Wizards backing him with many transactions and gained plenty of benefits, but in the face of death, how could any of that be more important than his own life?’

’Even so, the things Kasanti left behind were still decent.’

’While the individual value of each item wasn’t particularly high, the total value of all the items combined was a considerable sum.’

"Finally, we have a few notebooks. These notebooks record the problems Kasanti encountered in his pursuit of Truth, as well as the solutions he figured out for himself. If you have similar problems, you might want to bid on them and take a look."

The tone of the Law Enforcement Team captain in charge of the auction had become stiff, completely different from how it was at the beginning.

Andre watched the Law Enforcement Team captain, smiled, shook his head, and then began to bid.

’If Kasanti left behind his methods for breaking Defense Witchcraft, they would be in these notebooks.’

After some bidding, Andre successfully won them for the price of 30 Magic Stones.

And these 30 Magic Stones were only Elementary Magic Stones, not even considered Medium Magic Stones.

After the auction ended, Andre walked over, tossed down thirty Magic Stones, took the notebooks, and returned to the Wizard Inheritance Hall to begin leafing through them.

By the time he finished the first notebook, Andre’s expression had turned grave.
