Chapter 37: 170: Resigned to Fate

8 min read

Lu Feng stepped out of his room and was taken aback by the scene in the courtyard.

He saw rows upon rows of men standing in the courtyard, each holding a weapon, all arranged in neat formations.

At the head of these formations were Feisen, Bulin, and the other leaders of the Kurdar Clan.

But it was clear that none of them looked happy. They were dispirited, and their expressions were ones of resigned acceptance.

They had clearly spent the entire night trying to figure out how to disable the electronic collars, and now they had given up.

The moment they saw Lu Feng emerge, all eyes were drawn to him, their faces tinged with anxiety.

After all, they had spent the whole night trying every method they could think of, but none had worked on the electronic collars around their necks.

They couldn’t even take them off.

Every subordinate they had used for their experiments was now dead, their heads separated from their bodies.

As the night wore on, their inability to find a solution grew, and their disappointment morphed into utter despair.

They had now completely accepted the reality of their situation.

There was simply no way for them to remove the electronic collars.

Besides, when they thought about it, if the collars were that easy to disable, the man wouldn’t have been so confident in letting them try in the first place.

The crucial point was that he had set a timer. If they didn’t find a solution before time ran out, the electronic collars would detonate automatically.

That was why they had come over first thing in the morning.

The gruesome deaths of his subordinates were fresh in Feisen’s mind, leaving him no room for hesitation. He had even summoned a portion of his elite troops to show his sincerity.

No matter what, they now had to do whatever the man said.

Also standing at the front of the ranks was Hadona.

The poor guy’s ass was swollen and wrapped in bandages; he’d had the bad luck of catching a stray bullet in the rear yesterday.

Feisen hurried over to Lu Feng, hesitating before he spoke. "Mr. Red Lizard..."

Lu Feng clearly understood what was on his mind. He smiled and said, "Mr. Feisen, it looks like you’ve come to a decision. Very good. The auto-detonation function on your collars has been disabled. You can relax."

For some reason, these words made Feisen and his men let out a collective sigh of relief.

To be honest, he had been genuinely worried that this man might oversleep, letting the timer run out and trigger the collars. That would have been a truly unjust way to die.

"Thank you, sir!" Feisen said hastily.

Although he was unwilling, he knew that circumstances were against him and that he needed to understand his place.

He knew that with a single press of a button on that remote, his life would be over.

More importantly, he had no way of snatching the remote from the man’s hands.

Bullets couldn’t hurt the man, yet his marksmanship was godlike. Anyone who tried anything would be dead before they knew what hit them.

Lu Feng continued, "Go take care of two things for me. First, get all the weapons I requested ready and put them in a separate, empty warehouse. Second, send men to Tal Village and bring my people here."

Hadona immediately began to translate.

His face was flushed with excitement. Although his ass was injured, he knew one thing for certain: President Lu had subjugated the Kurdar Clan.

’I knew it,’ he thought. ’These people angered President Lu, so of course there was no way they’d get off easy.’

But he was also completely shocked. Before meeting President Lu, he had just been a nobody, involved in nothing more than some petty smuggling with Black Snake.

After meeting President Lu, his world had been turned upside down. In such a short time, President Lu had actually managed to subdue the Kurdar Clan.

The Kurdar Clan was a major power in Dalat Town. Their reputation was huge in the surrounding countries, far beyond what any of the local gangs could compare to.

They were practically a private army that also dabbled in arms dealing.

Who would even believe the story of how President Lu had brought the Kurdar Clan to heel?

If you told anyone, they’d think it was a joke.

But the reality was that the people of the Kurdar Clan were now completely obedient to President Lu.

After hearing Hadona’s translation, Feisen didn’t dare hesitate. He quickly ordered Bulin and another leader to carry out the tasks.

He knew what weapons this Mr. Red Lizard wanted. His older brother had already been preparing them, so all they had to do was get the batch ready and bring it out.

Bulin and the other leader naturally didn’t dare to delay, and they hurried out of the courtyard.

...

「Tal Village.」

Inside the main hall, the situation was a little awkward.

No word had arrived from Dalat Town yet.

The key issue was that Feisen and the others had all been fitted with electronic collars, so they had neither the time nor the energy to worry about things here.

This meant that the men Bulin had left behind were forced to remain in a standoff with Red Lizard and his team.

They had even tried calling, but the person who answered in Dalat Town only said that the leaders were all gathered in a meeting and that no one was to approach.

As a result, they had no way of reporting to Mr. Bulin.

It was an extremely awkward situation.

Because of this, they couldn’t retreat and could only continue to watch Red Lizard’s men.

Being watched, Red Lizard’s team didn’t dare to relax either. They had to remain on guard against the men Bulin had left.

This was despite both sides having agreed to take turns lowering their weapons to rest.

But after a whole night of staring each other down, who could possibly understand how they felt?

They were so exhausted they could barely stay awake, yet they had to keep their guns raised and trained on the enemy. They were tired, weary, and their arms ached.

Faced with this, Red Lizard and his men couldn’t relax. The other side was staring at them, guns still raised.

So naturally, they had to stare right back, returning the favor with their own raised guns.

This fucking sucked.

’The main problem is that there’s still no news from President Lu. We know what he’s capable of; those men are definitely no match for him. But with no word from him, we have no choice but to endure this agonizing night. I’m tempted to just lead my men in a real firefight. At worst, we’d all die. If only I didn’t feel that dying like this would be so pointless.’

"Uh..." Black Snake couldn’t take it anymore and called out to the other side, "You guys hungry? How about we talk this over, have someone bring some food, and we can eat before we continue this?"

His words made the men on the other side exchange glances. Two of them looked at each other and subconsciously nodded.

They were exhausted too. The night had been a true ordeal, and the physical exertion had been immense. Their stomachs had been protesting for a while.

"We’ll take turns eating!" one of them remembered to add, calling over to Red Lizard’s group.

Red Lizard naturally had no objection. In fact, he wanted to tell them to hurry up so he could eat first.

Before long, breakfast arrived.

The men on both sides swallowed hard. The sight of food at that moment was an indescribable temptation.

...

Bulin was the first to rush back to Tal Village.

The guards at the village entrance moved to greet him, but he just shouted, "Get out of the way! Don’t block the path."

Then he hurried inside.

He’d forgotten to give his men orders yesterday, and then the whole business with the electronic collars had made him forget about it completely.

He was terrified that the men he’d left behind had started a fight with Mr. Red Lizard’s subordinates, or worse, that his men had harmed or abused them.

That would surely anger Mr. Red Lizard, and all the man had to do was press the remote for him to be finished.

That was why he was in such a rush.

Finally, he reached the courtyard where Mr. Red Lizard’s men were being held and immediately burst inside.

When he got to the main hall, he froze.

His men were eating with Mr. Red Lizard’s subordinates. Nearby, some who had already finished were holding their weapons and burping.

The situation was a little off, not at all what he had imagined.

’In fact, the scene looks almost... harmonious!’
