Synopsis
Set against the nostalgic backdrop of the 1990s, the story follows Chen Zan, a man granted a second chance at life after a disastrous first run ended in death. In his previous existence, his path crossed with the volatile Tan Tian, a man whose ties to the criminal underworld brought only ruin. Now returned to his youth, Chen Zan is determined to avoid the pitfalls of the past and distance himself from the man who caused him such grief. However, encountering a younger, more innocent version of Tan Tian sparks a protective instinct. He resolves to guide the youth toward a virtuous path, attempting to straighten his moral compass before he descends into darkness. Alongside this mission, Chen Zan focuses on rescuing Fa Xiao and achieving financial independence. The atmosphere shifts from a violent opening to a gentle, domestic pace. This journey rewards those who appreciate slow-burn redemption and the quiet satisfaction of building a better life, though the sudden tonal shift may jar some.

Editorial Review
With a modest length of 118 chapters, this completed work offers a concise exploration of fate and reform. The strongest element is the transition into a cozy style of storytelling, where the focus on 1990s daily life and gradual wealth accumulation provides a comforting, grounded experience. The character dynamics are satisfying, particularly the irony of a man trying to fix another only to find himself entangled again. However, the opening is a significant hurdle. The author admits that the first chapter is jarringly violent and deviates sharply from the otherwise warm tone of the rest of the book. This inconsistency creates a disjointed entry point that may alienate newcomers before they reach the more cohesive second chapter. While the plot remains simple, the emotional payoff is earned through steady development, making it a solid, if brief, addition to the genre.
