Chapter 569:
The Bear’s and Seleiyu’s Battles
I LET SELEIYU TAKE CARE of the man since she’d been focused on fighting him for so many years. Whether he was captured or killed, he needed to be handled by Seleiyu herself. If I defeated the man, Seleiyu would never fully be at peace. What I could do though was help her out.
I was still worried about her even after leaving her with Kumayuru, though. I wanted to slay all the monsters as fast as I could and get right back to her.
“Kumakyu, you handle the monsters that come near the bear house, please. I’ll slay the others.”
“Cwoon.”
That was Kumakyu’s way of telling me things were handled. I was really glad to have my bears’ help.
“Don’t be a hero though, okay?”
If any strong monsters appeared, I’d fight them myself.
The monsters either were really hungry from waiting so long to eat, thought we had stolen their meal, or that we were on the menu. They drooled as they attacked me and Kumakyu. But we weren’t even tasty!
In order to show them how dangerous I was to attack, I unleashed a blade of wind at the monsters around the bear house that killed several goblins.
“I won’t go after you if you run. But if you attack, I’m going to show no mercy,” I said to the remaining monsters, but it wasn’t like they understood me. They stepped over the carcasses of their brethren and attacked me and Kumakyu.
I defeated one monster after another as they continued their assault. There were a lot of them, but they weren’t strong. I could slay them easily using my magic.
As I was steadily picking off the monsters, Kumakyu called out to me from behind.
“Thanks, Kumakyu. I know, so don’t worry.”
The tricky monsters were the wyverns. As I was picking off the goblins, wolves, and orcs, I kept tabs on the wyverns above us. They just glided overhead.
I’d fought plenty of those guys before. I was used to how they moved. I’d just wait until they dove to attack and slash at them with an aerial bear claw. That’d slice right into them.
I slayed the wyverns in succession as they swooped to attack me. This was much easier than the first time I’d fought one, I guess experience really was the best teacher. The rest of the monsters had fled as soon as the wyvern came swooping toward me. It seemed that they were more scared of the wyverns than they were of me.
The monsters around the bear house were long gone too. I wasn’t going to go after the monsters that had run away. That wasn’t my role here. I was here to protect Keith and slay any monsters that attacked. They weren’t being controlled anymore, and I’d already broken the mana gem, so they wouldn’t try to approach the town either. No need to go out of my way to slay them.
Finally, all the monsters that had been coming after us were gone. There was just one really big one left. While I was trying to figure out what to do about it, the ground started to shake, then swell. It looked like I wouldn’t need to dig the big fella out, then.
Finally, the wyrm surfaced from underground. I’d already seen it with my detection skill, so it wasn’t a surprise to me. Honestly, this was just a total rehash of the capital attack. And it was a dollar-store version.
“Kumakyu, get back!”
“Cwoon.”
As soon as the wyrm came out of the ground, it opened its giant gross mouth and checked out its surroundings. When it detected me, it opened wide and plunged my way. As it did, its main weakness was exposed in full view. Was it asking me to attack?
I created some flame bears and sent them charging right into the wyrm’s mouth. My bears sparked inside of the wyrm and baked it from the inside out. The wyrm crashed down, obviously in terrible pain.
“Eating everything you see is dangerous, you know.”
Well, that was it for all the monsters that had surrounded us. Even the monsters that had been watching the bear house from afar seemed to have made a break for it on instinct when the wyrm appeared.
With that, my job was done. Now I just needed to check on Seleiyu. I left Keith and the bear house in Kumakyu’s capable paws and headed over to Seleiyu. If she hadn’t already taken care of the guy, I wanted to get a hit or two in myself.
