IT MIGHT GO WITHOUT SAYING, but she wasn’t as powerful as the knight captain I fought at the academy festival (I still can’t remember his name and face). Blocking her strikes was easy.
I blocked another one as she brought her sword down. From an outside perspective, it would seem like I was solely focused on defense and couldn’t even get a blow in because of her assault. But I decided I’d counter soon and bring this duel to an end. My plan rested on the duel making it seem like I was just a tiny bit stronger than her.
But just as I thought that, Seleiyu paused for a moment and said, “I’m sorry. This may hurt, but we have an infirmary, so please don’t worry.”
Apparently, she was planning something. I’d just have to dodge it and end the duel.
Seleiyu thrust her sword at me. Her strikes were slower than when I’d fought against Jyubei in the Land of Wa. I dodged, but she’d expected that. Seleiyu flipped around.
Ohh! So that earlier thrust was a feint.
Because she’d spun around, her sword actually approached me from the opposite side. I reached out with my bear puppet and grabbed Seleiyu’s right arm, then used her momentum against her, snagged her leg, and took her to the ground. Next, I rested my wooden sword on her neck as she lay prone.
“Looks like I won.”
“Yes, I admit defeat.”
Seleiyu easily accepted the result.
