Chapter 831: 418: Fifty Shades of Gray

5 min read

Lawrence Winters was worn out and had no temper left. If the front desk at a hotel back home worked like this, the manager would probably come over and perform an on-the-spot firing.

Lawrence dragged two suitcases into the narrow elevator and went up to the second floor.

The room she booked was right on the second floor by the window.

The place wasn’t big, but it was partitioned into many rooms.

There was water on the cement corridor, clothes hung overhead, washed-out men’s shirts, dark red women’s skirts, all made of cheap synthetic materials.

She dragged the two suitcases out of the elevator and looked around in the corridor, searching for her room number.

At that moment, a door was pushed open with a bang from inside a room.

A pair of khaki pants was thrown out, landing on the ground by her feet.

Then a gray T-shirt followed, covering the pants perfectly.

Next, a man wearing only black boxer briefs was pushed out from the room.

His back was a tapering V-shape, with shiny golden brown skin, muscles tight and sturdy, clearly someone who works out.

His hair was very short, and he was tall. Even though Lawrence wasn’t short herself, standing at 170 cm in flat shoes, she could only look up at the back of this man’s head.

Literally looking up at him.

The man staggered a few steps as he was pushed, looking like he was struggling to maintain his balance.

Lawrence quickly stepped back to avoid being hit by the man.

The man didn’t notice her, still grinning as he spoke to someone inside: "Sally, why bother? This morning you were calling me hubby, and now you want to kick me out? One night as a couple, a hundred nights of grace, you’re so heartless?"

A young woman with shoulder-length styled hair burst out from the room.

Her face was heavily made up, the smoky eye makeup startling in the broad daylight.

Her skin was very fair, different from those who tan themselves yellow-brown, but it might be due to the thick foundation. Lawrence’s vision was sharp, almost able to see the flaking powder particles on her face.

Her eyebrows seemed tattooed, unnaturally neat, with a bluish tinge, not as pretty as black brows.

Her lips were well-shaped, but the vivid red lipstick was overwhelming, drawing immediate attention to her mouth.

"Big D, get out of here! You bastard spent last night with that slut Maria! How dare you come back to me today!"

The man stepped back, finally steadying himself.

Lawrence saw a bright red lipstick mark on his cheek.

His profile was actually quite handsome, with a high nose bridge, a slight bump in the middle, a sharp jawline, and some stubble beginning to shadow.

He continued smiling: "Sally, you’re jealous? I gambled all night yesterday, just shared some of my winnings with Maria. She’s just a gambling companion, can’t let her go home empty-handed, bad luck for me."

"...Really just gambling? No funny business?" The young woman named "Sally" asked suspiciously, "You’re not lying to me, are you?"

"Why would I lie to you?! I’m Big D, famous in Chinatown! Go ask around, who’s seen Big D tell lies?!" He thumped his chest with a loud noise.

Sally seemed easily placated, as Big D said some sweet words, she softened, resting her hand on the door frame, biting her lip, about to say something, turning her gaze to see Lawrence standing dumbfounded watching the drama, she laughed and scolded: "Hurry get in here! You’re blocking my way!"

Big D abruptly turned around, his eyes fierce and electric, glancing at Lawrence standing nearby, his heart suddenly tensed.

When did this young lady arrive?

How did he not notice her presence at all?

If she was an assassin sent by his enemies, he would have been a corpse by now.

Lawrence quietly regarded him, slowly saying, "Ex...cuse...me...please...move...over."

She mimicked the middle-aged woman downstairs perfectly, appearing like a sloth.

Big D exhaled in relief, realizing he was overthinking.

He took a step forward, smiling as he watched Lawrence struggling to drag two suitcases, suddenly walked over, grabbing them both, as if picking up chicks, from Lawrence’s hands, asking, "Which room are you in, Missy?"

He noted Lawrence’s simple appearance and somewhat timid demeanor, warmly said, "Missy, just arrived from back home?"

Lawrence nodded, softly replied, "Mm, just off the plane."

"Why are you here? Sightseeing or studying? Staying in a twin or triple room? Hope it’s not a shared dorm, if it is, just mention Big D’s name, no one will dare mess with you!"

Lawrence reported her room number, Big D chuckled, "A single room? Missy has money."

Lawrence still smiled amiably, quietly said, "I’m not well, prone to insomnia at night. But a single room is pricey, my money’s limited, so I can only stay for a few days, I’ll find another place soon..."

Big D nodded, showing understanding, watched her open her door, helped place the suitcases inside, kindly remarked: "It’s tough being away from home. We’re compatriots, we should help each other. You’re young, feel free to ask us if you need anything, Sally and I live just across from you."

Lawrence nodded, "Thank you, Big D, thank you, Sally."

Looking very well-behaved.

Big D looked at her, advised: "The people here are decent, but be cautious of those foreigners outside, they look friendly but are sinister, not good people."

Lawrence smiled at him, took out a bill and handed it to him.

Big D’s demeanor instantly changed, "What do you think Big D is?!"

He spun around, dashed out of Lawrence’s room, kicking the door, with a loud bang, closed it tight.
