Andrew’s frown deepened as he slowly walked up to her."Do you really dislike me that much?"
He hadn’t expected Shirley’s desire to return to her home country to be so strong.
It seemed she had never forgotten about that man.
"I..."
Shirley sat on the sofa, her hands tightly clenched, the veins on the back of her hands protruding.
"You know the reason I agreed to you."
Biting her lip, her mouth was filled with a metallic taste.
She wasn’t sure what she should do, all she could do was take it one step at a time.
"Andrew, I really want to go back. Please, let me. I can give you money, lots and lots of money. Would you spare me, please?"
Shirley couldn’t bear the deathly silence any longer and spoke up immediately.
She could borrow money; she could borrow from Ethan Martinez, she could borrow from Alan Morgan.
All she wanted now was to go back. She wanted to see Gerry, she wanted to see Alan Morgan.
"Money?"
Andrew found it truly ironic. Did he look like someone who was short on money?
"Yes, I can give you money, please spare me, okay?"
Andrew let out a bitter laugh and reached to unbutton his suit.
Seeing this, Shirley was greatly shocked.
"You! You, you..."
She shook her head fiercely, curling up on the sofa, her whole body beginning to tremble.
Seeing her like this, Andrew paused for a few seconds, then continued unbuttoning.
"Shirley, I’m asking you, do you want to go back?"
He stood there, towering over like a king, while she was humble and lowly as dust.
Tears filled her eyes as she shivered on the sofa, but she didn’t choose to break down and run away.
She didn’t know what she really wanted, or what she should do.
She couldn’t bear being touched by another man, yet...
She wanted to see Gerry, wanted to see Alan Morgan one more time.
Being trapped here for the rest of her life, she couldn’t accept it.
Filthy as she was, once she knew Gerry was fine, she’d end her life by her own hand.
It was like she’d made up her mind, sitting there unmoving like a heart turned to ash.
Andrew finally unfastened the last button and reached out to take off his jacket.
Looking at her sitting there, he gently draped the jacket over her.
Feeling his touch and warmth, Shirley shivered.
Andrew looked at her: indeed, he was a failure.
"Shirley, I’m not as vile and despicable as you think."
He sat there, slowly closed his eyes, and leaned back lightly on the sofa.
"I’ll wait, wait for the day you fall in love with me. Don’t worry, if it’s not of your own will, I won’t touch you."
For the first time, he realized that even someone as bloodthirsty as he, could have such a tender side.
Surprised, Shirley opened her eyes and looked at Andrew, momentarily unable to calm her emotions.
Andrew, who had always been absolute, never considering her feelings, actually said something like this?
It felt like a dream; she dared not move for fear the dream would shatter.
"I have some things to handle this week; next week I’ll take you back home for a visit."
He knew the best course of action was to let her go.
But he wasn’t willing. He didn’t want to. He felt that would be too unfair to himself.
Even if the chances were slim, he wanted to fight for it.
"Shirley, pray that I don’t change my mind. Now you can go!"
After speaking, he opened his eyes, coldly observing her sitting beside him.
