I know it’s a sudden question, but have you ever wanted to be a phantom thief?
I have.
When I was younger, I wanted to be either a phantom thief or an ace detective.
To make sure I was ready, I broadened my knowledge by reading the newspaper from front to back and observing people all over town. But whenever I decided one of those people must be carrying something dangerous and followed them, they always turned out to be an ordinary shopkeeper or something…
Clearly, I didn’t have what it took to be either. What a disappointment.
But I didn’t let that stop me. Maybe I could write stories! I mean, Lupin and Kid were storybook characters anyway. If I became the recorder of their adventures, I could watch phantom thieves from closer range than anyone else!
That was when Asuka and Kei popped into my head.
At first, I wasn’t sure such young kids could be phantom thieves, but Asuka and Kei had some really incredible powers. I sure did worry about them, though. Asuka was always jumping into trouble, and Kei never stopped staring at his computer with that poker face. Would they be okay?
(If only they knew what it’s like to keep an eye on them!)
But eventually, they made a break for it.
I was as surprised as you.
…Hey, is that Asuka making a peace sign like she owns the world? Sheesh, one compliment and there they go.
Asuka and Kei are still new at all this, though, so I hope you’ll be cheering for them.
Speaking of which, I hope you’ll be cheering for me, too, as their recordkeeper.
One last thing. Asuka did a lot of dangerous and violent things in this book. Please do not copy her under any circumstances. They only got away with it because Asuka trains all the time and Kei knows everything.
I can’t wait to see you when their story continues!
