Chapter 2172: 2173: Hand-to-Hand Combat

7 min read

But those foreign races weren't pushovers either. The giant's huge clubs smashed straight into the crowd—anyone hit by those clubs was basically turned into a meat patty on the spot.

Their strength was terrifying, but the foreign races turned very slowly.

After killing a number of human cultivators, those foreign races became the main targets of attack.

The flying swords of cultivators in the Pursue Heart State stabbed wildly at the giants at close range, punching bloody holes all over their bodies.

The giants toppled over, crushing many shield-bearing soldiers.

Ling Zhenfei's elixirs were done; the herbal fragrance was intoxicating.

Ling Zhenfei gathered up the elixirs and glanced at the battlefield. Up front, the humans had already broken through the first two layers of the foreign races' defenses; shield soldiers and giants were falling one after another.

The Double-headed persons at the rear charged up at this moment and started a brutal melee with the humans.

The Double-headed persons held axes and moved with great agility, rushing into the crowd like a pack of starving wolves.

Ling Zhenfei knew this battle wouldn't be over anytime soon. Humans had obvious strengths but also obvious weaknesses. Their strength was that no matter how difficult things were, they could always find a way to break through.

For example, the archers who had tormented humans yesterday were dealt with easily today.

But the human weakness was: if they got hurt badly today, they would unite tomorrow; if they won today, they would split apart tomorrow.

The fighting was brutally cruel, both sides suffering casualties, but overall the battle was tilting toward the humans; their chances of victory seemed to be getting bigger and bigger.

Ling Zhenfei started doing Alchemy again; these elixirs were for the Flower God. The Flower God wasn't an ordinary person—if things were really as she said and she could be cured, it would benefit everyone.

The Phoenix Elixir Furnace looked extremely excited; the Phoenix Flames were burning thick and strong.

The Flower God's body was changing; her legs were already completely useless, and as time went on, other parts of her body would end up like her legs.

Ling Zhenfei felt that the Flower God's illness wasn't that simple, though he certainly didn't know the exact cause.

Still, Ling Zhenfei decided to use some elixirs to stimulate the Flower God's body; maybe something very unexpected would happen.

The elixirs rolled inside the Pill Furnace; the dozen or so different elixirs seemed to be merging into one.

Countless herbs spun and mingled in the blazing heat, fusing wildly.

The situation on the battlefield was the same: human cultivators and foreign races were locked in combat.

The fight between human cultivators and those foreign races was like a battle between a group of Martial Arts World experts and an army.

One-on-one, the Martial Arts World experts would definitely win, but against an army, that wasn't guaranteed.

Many times, having higher Northern Spiritual Energy alone didn't mean you could do anything you wanted.

So the fighting on both sides was extremely fierce.

The Double-headed persons were the infantry warriors among the foreign races; behind them were cavalry.

These cavalry rode beasts that looked like rhinos, with very hard bodies and incredible speed; under their charges, humans suffered heavy casualties.

Ling Zhenfei knew this battle wouldn't end so easily.

Sure enough, the fighting dragged on for a long time, both sides taking losses. They fought across the entire thicket for a long while, only to fall into a stalemate.

By this time Ling Zhenfei's elixirs were finished. He lay idly on a tree trunk. Although he kept searching for Blood Son's trail, he hadn't caught sight of Blood Son at all.

He had no idea where Blood Son had gone.

As Ling Zhenfei was relaxing, he suddenly heard a voice coming from his walkie-talkie.

Ling Zhenfei froze after listening—his walkie-talkie hadn't had any sound for a long time.

Zhang Zhenlin was dead, Sun Wei was heavily wounded, Lan Yan was missing; Murong Liuqing was basically out of action, so his walkie-talkie almost never had any sound.

Yet now there really was a voice coming through.

At first it was just a burst of static.

Ling Zhenfei immediately shouted into it, "Who is it? I'm Ling Zhenfei, who's talking?"

After a moment, he heard a girl's voice say, "Big Brother Ling, it's me, I'm Lan Yan."

Hearing Lan Yan's voice again shook Ling Zhenfei hard; he hadn't heard her voice for a long time, and had always assumed Lan Yan had gone missing.

Ling Zhenfei asked, "Lan Yan, where are you? Where have you been all this time?"

Lan Yan's voice trembled badly; she was obviously terrified.

"Big Brother Ling, I've been hiding in the cave we dug the first time. I'm so scared."

Ling Zhenfei thought for a moment and remembered where that cave was.

It was north of the canyon; they'd spent a night in there.

Thinking of this, Ling Zhenfei said, "Just stay hidden inside and don't come out. I'll come get you right away."

Lan Yan said, "Big Brother Ling, hurry, I'm really scared."

Ling Zhenfei said, "Don't worry, I'll be there soon."

Ling Zhenfei packed up his things, thinking about how he could get there as fast as possible.

The fastest way was still on the Lightning Bird; that was much quicker than him weaving through the forest on foot.

But the Lightning Bird had been injured yesterday, and he didn't know how it was doing today.

Thinking of this, Ling Zhenfei sent a signal to Xiao Jin. Soon, Xiao Jin flew over from the distance.

After resting last night, the Lightning Bird was much better than before.

At least its spirits were much improved.

Ling Zhenfei leapt onto Xiao Jin's back. Xiao Jin spread its wings and flew toward the distance.

Sure enough, Xiao Jin's body had recovered quite a bit, though the wounds on its claws were not something that could heal so easily.

Ling Zhenfei had only one goal: to find Lan Yan as quickly as possible.

No wonder Ling Zhenfei hadn't been able to find her—Lan Yan had been hiding in that cave of theirs all along. That was why she hadn't received any of his calls.

He'd always thought Lan Yan had been killed and felt guilty about it, but hearing her voice finally let Ling Zhenfei relax a little.

The forest was still some distance from the canyon; even flying nonstop like this, Xiao Jin needed the better part of half a day to reach the canyon.

From the canyon you still had to fly north for a while, but as they passed over the canyon, Ling Zhenfei was surprised to see that some foreign races were actually camped there.

That puzzled Ling Zhenfei. Since it had already been proven there was no Heavenly God Sword in this canyon, why were those foreign races still guarding it?

But Ling Zhenfei was anxious to find Lan Yan, so he didn't stop and flew straight toward the north side of the canyon.

After flying for a while, he finally reached the area near the spot where they had dug that cave.

Why "nearby"? Because it had been a long time, and back then it was night, so Ling Zhenfei couldn't pinpoint the exact location.

Ling Zhenfei dismounted from the Lightning Bird. Since its claws hadn't healed, it didn't land; it flew off directly, who knew where, to rest.

Ling Zhenfei searched around the area and finally found the cave they had dug before.
